SOCOM Beta Crumbles Under Demand

insomniac and guerrilla will most likely will be fine.. i just took a break form the socom beta, love it.... LOVE IT .. minus the server load issues of course...

the problem, i hate to admit is sony....

Sony IMO undervalued socom.. and its fans...

so much money has been dumped into Killzone 2.. and resistsance 2 (resistance 2 gets a pass since it was a new ip launch title that worked, really good game) (and not knocking killzone 2 but its a risk)

there has been this HALO killer search for a while now.. killzone was to be the first halo killer, didnt work (halo 1 better gameplay, killzone more immersive tone)

SONY's few online hits of the ps2 includes: Everquest Online Adventures, Final Fantasy XI, AND Socom......

my point is that still to this day people are playing SOCOM 1, 2, 3, CA and the psp online

Slant6 is a great company and zipper passed the baton to a great developer BUT...

SONY is most likely putting plenty of money and support into resistance 2 and killzone servers.. and rightfully so, both titles look good

but socom should have received sony's first attention, it should have been a launch title

sony and zipper should have worked on that first (and maybe slant6 if zipper wants to move on like Bungie does) to get socom out

Well correct me if i am wrong, but the game is only online multiplayer. IMO this is a sorry attempt considering this is the complete core of the game. Sure there should be some issues, but when it is barely playable most of the time it's not a good starting foundation. Considering it is online only. Well anyways they will get things lined out eventually, but i am still not impressed with the game. I will stick with COD4 and B-company for my military need's.

And I have nor anyone I play with know what your talking about I see my legs ect. make sure your not zoomed in by pressig the D-pad up that could be a problem. Console gamers only have alot to learn about Beta's if it ran perfect the point of it would be moot.
But anyways I love it about the 300people I played with loved it. I f a long load screen is deterring you then maybe electronics and technology just aren't your thing you know since BETA = PRoblem finsder and people eseem to think BETA=perfect demo.

Sorry but i have to disagree with you. I'm in the beta and the graphics look like Ps2 quality graphics. Guns look better than Ps2 graphics but that's about it (graphics wise). Now the gameplay is a totally different story. The gameplay is straight up awesome. I was totally going to pass up on buying this but now i'm probably going to buy the game. The gameplay is raw and it's really accessible and cool and has the perfect feel to it. Graphics suck but the gameplay is awesome. I don't play games for their pretty colors and realistic graphics or whatever. I play them for gameplay and story.

The Graphics are good, but they're no where near as good as you say there.

When I've been playing I've experienced a lame framerate ( probably lag induced at times )good textures and level design, which is flawed with some slight screen earing occasionaly and some of what would be great lighting, but it needs tweaking.. when I'm in the shade and walk out it'n not til my character has walked out from the shade that he then has the light stream onto him again.

The only things I really care about though is the framerate and connection problems causing deaths.

Overall I'm thoroughly enjoying the game ( when I'm in it )

HAHA Are you guys seriously saying Confrontation looks like PS2 graphics? What are you smoking dude? I'm playing on an 08 model 50" Pioneer Elite and the game is beautiful. You guys must be playing on SDTV's or on really small ass screens. Or it could be that your taking every chance you have to dog on a game just because it's on the PS3. LOL.

Yes i'm serious that it look like Ps2 quality graphics to me. The graphics quality reminds me Black but maybe a little sharper. The graphics are very unimpressive to me besides how the guns look. The guns look really damn good but the models and how the environment looks (graphical quality wise) is very tame and looks pretty bad in my opinion.

Like i said it's all about the gameplay. The gameplay is top notch and it's the reason i'm probably going to now buy Socom: Confrontation. I love the level design as well and the controls feel just right. Besides the server loading and the framerate drop there's nothing bad about Socom for me. Like i said the gameplay is what matters to me. I still play Ps2 and the occasional Genesis game from time to time.

edit: I'm playing on a 50 inch Samsung, it's a 2007 model and i'm running the game in 720p.

I think it really is one of those things where when you are actually playing it is when you will only then notice how good the graphics are. I mean it's not Geras of War or uncharted ( obviously ) but then again the size this is pushing with the amount of people online too in full really allows me to appreciate the graphics even more.

Nope i'm not saying it because i'm trying to "diss a game that's on Ps3 lawl" because i only have a Ps3 as far as next gen consoles go. That's a moot point. Point is i think the graphics are sub par, Warhawk has better graphics than Socom: Confrontation in my opinion, i think God of War 2 looks better than Socom: Confrontation as well. I just think the graphics look bad. Gameplay is damned good though.

At first i thought Socom: Confrontation looked bad in my opinion gameplay wise and that it had average graphics. My friend Patron gave me one of his beta codes so i could get in the beta it's already about changed my mind and i think i'm going to buy the game. Now i think the gameplay is awesome but the graphics look sub par. I don't play "console favorite" or whatever you want to call it. If a game looks good to me it looks good to me and if it looks like it's going to suck then i don't care which system it's on i think it's going to suck.

Yeah that is true. But it's natural to use your opinion as a backbone of your debate. That's what debates are usually based around, difference in opinions. Maybe saying it has Ps2 quality graphics was a little harsh but i still think graphically it's unimpressing to me. Maybe saying it had Halo 3-esq graphics would have been better *Laughs*. Jokes aside like i said i'm just usually unimpressed by graphics some people tote as being the "creme del-la creme" at the time. Only 2 games that made me go "Got damn, those graphics are insane" was Killzone 2 (which will also have 32 player online) and GT5:P.

Like i said. I don't really care about graphics but they both look almost on par with each other. I don't agree with you but i don't agree at the above. I think maybe you need to go back and play socom 1,2,3, ca. they are much worse in every way now there nothing super awesome but this game was made for gameplay not graphics and you see all these flops are more and more and will continue since with todays generation "Give me all of it all at once" moneys is being wasted to make game look good with terrible gameplay.

But I like it and I agree graphics are nothing special but far from ps2 and i mean far away.

Just like HDTV's and Surround Sound you forget how big the difference is. For ex. just yesterday I was wathcing Football in HD and ran to my room to work out put it on my no HD tv and the difference was HUGE I mean HUGE but standing in front of the HD you cant really (Or I cant )tell the difference saying stuff like this is how I remebered it looking but its not and not even close just like watching yourself grow in the mirror you cant tell to much but a before and after picture would get a wow I had no idea out of you.
