LittleBig What!?

Watching Veronica Belmont talking about LittleBigPlanet in Qore the other day Psnfriends.com couldn't help but think of two things. LittleBigPlanet hasn't made an official statement on "adult levels", but they have said that content will be monitored closely and that gamers will be able to make private levels to share with friends only.

4 - You would think.....
That LBP would not allow this type of content to be made. I know it's all about creativity with this game, but this could potentially hurt LBP sales if they are aiming this game at a casual audience. If parents get any sense that their child's game has the potential to make adult themes...all bets are off. I know they stated that they would monitor the level creator closely, but try explaining this concept to a parent. Forget it.

4.1 - Parents are naive
Currently only half of them know not to buy M games for their kids. They are not going to think once about an E rated game. Besides anyone who posts inappropriate levels is most likely to be banned from ever doing so again.

4.3 - It would be appropriate censorship.
If you want this game to succeed, it has to be kept appropriate.

"First of all, I can tell you that you can make private levels. You can publish a level and make it locked and give away keys to friends. But, I personally wouldn't put risky content in there. We have a post-grievance system. The way that works is ... pretty much at any point in the game, you can press a button and effectively take a screenshot. That screenshot knows lots of information of where that screenshot came from, what players were there, etc. You can send that screenshot to the powers that be ... If you want to make a private level, give keys to people you trust. You can do that, I suppose.

Of course, other potential extensions of the level creation tools have posed questions the the games industry hasn't had to face before. Since you can take a picture of anything, like...anything, what happens when you see a Sackboy who's, well, y'know, stickered with, er, a sack...boy. “Can I create a forest of penises?” one observer asked Shubel during his tour showcasing the game. Well, you can, if you must. But to ensure objectionable material is not freely available to all users, any player will be able to “grief” a level, instantly removing it from download and flagging it for assessment by SCEA's customer service team. Only one person needs to grief a level to have it removed, but serial griefers will also be flagged, and their ability to grief can be removed by the moderators."
