My Xbox 360 Has Become Abusive

Ripten writes:

"These stories are getting a bit stale, aren't they? Not stale enough, apparently, or maybe it's just not important for Microsoft to fix their shit. You see, my latest Xbox 360 is dead. I purchased a new Arcade version in January after my then current 360 was assassinated. I've been using it since then until it started freezing, at which time I moved it to the other television and used it solely for movie-watching. Less than eight months later, it does nothing but blink red and laugh at me.

My relationship with the 360 has become abusive. I try to remember only the good times we had and pretend that the times he hit me are long gone. The 360 keeps telling me that he's changed, and I believe it because I love the 360. Then, for no reason, the 360 gets mad and throws me down a flight of stairs, I call the police, and the 360 goes into rehab for 2 weeks.

Then he shows up at my door, gift-wrapped, and we go back to doing all of the fun things that made me love him in the first place. Every time we get together, though, I'm always fearful that he will slip into his abusive ways. Sometimes the 360 will freeze during a game, and I reset it hoping that I will see green lights and not red ones. Sometimes I turn it on and see no lights for a few seconds, and I get scared. I never know when the 360 is going to hurt me again."

1.2 - Is it just me, or are console wars entertaining as heck? :)
Just watching the arguments, articles, conspiracy theories of money-hat pay-outs and back-door deals (how the heck did ps3 Rachet and Clank get a 7.5 rating for too much variety?)...

I think this era's console war, may even top the legendary Nintendo vs Sega war or when Sony joined in and turned it into a 3-way dance with Crash calling out Mario in front of Nintendo's offices.

"Hey, Plumber-boy!"

Classic...

One guy get's a problem with his recent 360 and he cries about it. Perhaps, I should go around spread news that my 360 is still running since I bought last November and I have been heavily playing it.

It is kind of like that one guy on TV that complained about his 360 was defective and he had to replace it multiple time. Then they show where he stored the darn thing and it was like this tiny enclosure. Heck I don't store my DVD player in such an enclosed space....

Considering how long its been since we've heard anything about RROD, its nice to hear a fresh approach to the miserable situation.

I'm on week 2 and still waiting for them to send me a replacement I don't have the money to get a PS3 right now so I'm entertaining myself with some old school PS2 games. Personally if they didn't replace my 360 for free I would never buy any thing from them again.

To be honest, 4 replacements in that amount of time is ridiculous. I own both consoles and while I enjoyed my 360 I never play it anymore for fear of the disk unreadable message. Nothing is worse than playing Madden or NCAA, completing a draft you are happy with and then having your game freeze.

Microsoft should just suck it up and ask Sony to help them out with their next 360 redesign.

They are clearly having trouble and I'm sure Sony wouldn't mind if Microsoft asked them nicely.

If the console companys started acting friendlier towards each other then maybe their fans would too.

The PSOne had problems, the PS2 had problems, and now the PS3 doesn't really have any problems.

The original Xbox didn't have any problems, but now for some reason the 360 does.

I don't think Microsoft needs Sony's help, but it is odd how they've switched places this generation.

I do wish we could all get along though ( . ^ . )

This isn't the local pie-baking competition, this is a multi-billion dollar business. Companies don't act "friendly" to each other to make the world better, they would only talk to other companies for $ or if their image is at stake.

4.3 - Both the original and ps2 systems had problems
And they were so well protected or obscured by the media, we may never know how bad it really was. So "asking" them "nicely" for guidance on hardware reliability isn't the best idea. Maybe Nintendo, they've been doing quite the job since SNES.

4.4 - "And they were so well protected or obscured by the media"
Do you know what you're saying? Is the RRoD on the news? No. This kind of stuff spreads through the internet, and the internet certainly doesn't protect or obscure **** like this. The PS1 and PS2 problems were never up to 33%, and they were all fixed relatively quickly, not just replaced ad infinitum.

4.5 - "they were all fixed relatively quickly, not just replaced ad infinitum. "
Yes, because they were sued. And this was at a time when the Internet was just reaching it's stride. Get a clue. ;)

4.6 -
The fact they were sued tells me we'll never
know if Sony would have fixed it on there own.

Fact is that sony did fix it, not just extend the warranty.
See It's simple.

Step one: Admit there is a huge issue publicly and explain
in details what it is(Explain that the 360 has a fire hazzard
to, you can DIE).

Step two: Fix the Issue and make many new "FIXED" 360's.

Step three: Inform the public that the new 360 is out and
all other bad 360's were pulled, tell the public to return
there bad 360 in for the new 360(for free).

See, with these three steps I would also have a 360
by now, since I am a gamer not a hater, Last gen I had
all consoles, it was the RROD that kept me away from
the 360, people spin it like MS is doing everyone a
favor by extending the warranty, 1 Billion worth, you know
that's Junk change for MS right?

The three steps I said might be worth more but it shows your
loyal fans that you made a grave mistake and we are thinking of you.

I Cannot figure out why people will defend MS when all they did was
save themselves a lawsuit plus several billion, in return there
fans get muffled, muffled meaning MS is somewhat protected by lawsuits
unless of course somebody burns up.

Why wasn't MS sued is the big question, and why do people defend
there 3 year warranty like It's a God.

Yes Sony did get sued and they should have, but so should MS even
now, since they never fixed the Issued.

I Try so hard not to hate MS, I Never bashed them but god
dangit the truth is the truth and some people refuse to
believe the truth.

The 360 has awesome and plenty of games, but there is no game
that I know of that will prevent the RROD, only MS can do that.

Wait, so you think that a writer on the Internet is somehow giving me the shaft and being mean to me? I don't see how some writer could be doing any of that just by being sarcastic, and I don't see how that would affect me personally. I don't love everything too much, if at all, and I think that I find this writer funny because I feel the same way that he does.

5.4 - "or maybe you love everything too much"
What the heck is that? Seriously, don't make silly assumptions, because I've never had to send in my 360, but yet I've had to send my ps2 3 times back in the day. Does that make me a 360 fan more? Nope, and my ps2 catalog squashed my Xbox, regardless if it didn't work all the time. So If I'm criticizing a blogger, even if it is sarcasm, it certainly isn't cause I'm a 360 fan or oblivious to the RRoD. Yeah I know it's out there, and it's a major problem. But I look at how Microsoft handled the situation to decide if I should even keep the system. Yeah Sony was sued and made an extended free warranty to fix ps2's and Microsoft extended theirs to avoid being sued. Because of that, no one get's my loyalty except the games, but they do get my skepticism and respect for at least doing something. So make assumptions on someone else Pixel. ;)

LOL... I've converted a few buddies that way... After an RROD/DVD drive error or two, they start asking me about the PS3...

The shame of it is that software-wise, the 360 is a good system... It's just the unpredictable hardware...

And that's why I use my PS3 for day-to-day gaming... Other than the 2.0 firmware controller glitch (which was fixed in the next firmware in a matter of days), I have had no issues with my PS3...

I agree. I rarely play my 360 anymore because it has started to freeze up on me and I can't stand the feeling I get playing a game and being nervous that the system might crap out on me. Now to be fair, my launch 60GB PS3 freezes on me too, but for some reason I don't feel any anxiety over it. I don't understand for the life of me why people would go through 3 or 4 consoles if they keep dying on them. If either my PS3 or my 360 dies on me more than once there's no way I would buy another one.

9.1 - I just bought an 80g PS3 and it freezes too.
From what I have read the freezing is do to the recent update. My friend avoided going online with his PS3 and it never froze, but then as soon as he updated with that patch it freezes on Call of Duty 4 too. I've never had it freeze on my while playing any other game and only when there is some kind of problem with the connection.

11 - Out of about 3 friends 1 has not replaced his 360.
But he is having problems with the disc reading. All 3 friends bought a 360 just months ago and one was an Elite(one the ones that broke). The one that isn't broken is actually modded to hell :D What baffles the mind is why Xbox 360 fans who've experienced this prob keep coming back. Some times I think the world is going insane. My PS3 freezes everyonce and a while while playing Call of Duty 4, and if my PS3 ever breaks I won't be buying another, and that's for real.

I think it's simple as to why they go back. You have all the games you want, since you've already bought them, and you're under a really nice warranty. What will happen when that warranty runs out though, is any body's guess.

11.3 - PS3 freezing
I have very occasional freezing problem with my ps3 too. I think when your ps3 gets very HOT, it doesn't process codes fluently. I have my PS3 in well ventilated area with very small clip fan on side to make sure hot air is circulating out of my entertainment center. Since then, which is may be just over year now, I have may be 2 freezing issues.
Its 60 gig lunch ps3.

13 - I would be in tears-
You see I`m a online gamer, I hunt the top 100 on alot of leaderboards-

Now if my system where to fail and need to be sent in I would fall behind-
Taking me out of any hunt to reach top 100 status-

When the system came back, my game would be useless as well, I would be behind the curve and unless I quit my job, could never get that time back-

There is a solution... Best Buy has a extra warranty you can pay for-
Bring in dead system, they replace it right then and there...

I also heard that for awhile some best buys could`nt keep box in stock because of this and had to discontinue the policy...+ the extra 69$ for the warranty + online fee`s + for Wireless + did`nt like the head sets(gotta have good headset)communication with your team a must...lol

So I still wait for a reliable Sku... till then my PS3 will keep me going-
