Good Evening, Mr. Bond. Will it be the Wii or the 360?

GotGame writes:

"It's been circulating the rumor mill for over 2 years now: Goldeneye 64 will be coming to XBox Live Arcade. And why shouldn't it? Considering Rare (the developers of the original Nintendo 64 title) has been a first-party developer for Microsoft since September '02, it seemed an obvious inevitability. While this has yet to be seen though, it does spark the question, "What about the Virtual Console? Goldeneye 64 is a Nintendo game!""

1.1 - This article
This article just seems to be who deserves Goldeneye more. In a business perspective it doesn't matter who deserves it more, it matters who owns the rights to Goldeneye, which from what we hear is Rare and Nintendo. (I remember hearing Rare owns the levels and the game structure and Nintendo owns the character rights, which is expensive coming from James Bond's camp)

All in all, lame article.

Who published Banjo on N64? Because that is coming to Xbox 360 Live Arcade so Goldeneye can come to XBLA as well

1.3 - Nintendo does not own all of the rights.
Microsoft and Nintendo jointly own the game, Activision however owns the rights to the bond license.

But Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie on XBLA makes sense, because they coincide with the 3rd Banjo-Kazooie. However, Goldeneye wouldn't help promote anything.

The best solution? Release it on both VC and XBLA.

2 - Don't waste your time reading this...
This article offers nothing we didn't already know months ago and is based on assumptions. It's a little contradicting as well.

Agreed. Goldeneye XBLA has been completed for a while now and as part of the agreement MS offered a VC version to Nintendo, but the Nintendo head stonewalled and refused to have "a Nintendo title on another platform". Until that changes expect nothing more.

Why the disagrees? Have you two been living under a rock? If you'd rather waste your time reading something based on assumption, that doesn't offer anything we haven't heard before months ago, then be my guest. I just thought I'd save some people the trouble.

I would kill to play Goldeneye with Wiimote (think MP3 or Medal of Honor Heroes 2 controls)...

Jesus don't even update its graphics, just let us use the wiimote to play it =D

I really can't get my head around why they don't just release it on both VC and XBL and make everyone happy. Nintendo earns money, Microsoft earns money and lots of happy costumers everywhere... what do they stand to lose?

4.1 - agreed.
It's a shame because there is obviously a demand for it on both the 360 and the Wii, it sucks though that it ended up being canned in the end.

And what makes this even stranger is Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise being developed for the DS.

PEBZ,
Thats actually more logical.
MS is not competing with handheld gaming devices.
So they wont push costumers away and they only make money out of it.

One could almost get the impression that the next-gen consoles aren't competing with the Wii either, from all the PR mumbo jumbo. It is true as far as XBL and VC is concerned anyway, arcade games don't really push any hardware.

People with both consoles might even end up getting both versions due to the different control schemes.

But reality says other wise.
They are in fact competing, MS has 360 as their GAMING console.
And Nintendo has Wii as their GAMING console.
While in fact Nintendo has DS and MS has Non.
So nothing to loose when it comes to competition.

I couldn't agree any more if I tried. The Wii has the best controls for FPS and I think conduit will prove this. While they won't give Goldeneye the Wii controls it is still an awesome game and should be allowed to be played by all.

Actually the Xbox 360 has the best controls for FPS games, not the Wii.

sorry wii we want HD

an HD game for mii is better

and hey 360 controlles are much better than wii fps controles sure, the wii controles do just fine but duel analoges are much more faster than swing your arm and wait to see the right reaction

7 - Here's the problem..
Rare owns the game design..Activision owns the licensing rights..Nintendo owns the hardware it ran on..it was made for the N64 so Microcrap needs permission to the the software to run it..

7.1 - You forgot one thing...
Rare owns the game design, but guess who owns Rare? Microsoft, therefore Microsoft owns the Game Design and Rare owns nothing.

Furthure more Microsoft stated a few months back that Goldeneye is jointly owned by both Microsoft and Nintendo.
