hope ps3 to be the next ps2

cause ps 2 is like a sea of awesome games

the only way to have the best games this gen is to buy all the 3 systems

in this gen, fanboys lose a lot of games

cause no console today has lots of games like ps2

true gamers chase games not consoles

Ape, you just reminded me how far Nintendo has fallen when it comes to gamers. They were awesome back then.

"cause ps 2 is like a sea of awesome games "

Until just this month the PS2 section at the local Frys was larger than the PS3+Wii+360 sections combined. And it usually had the most traffic of all the sections with huge numbers of big name titles going for only 19.99.

I guess they don't complain because they didn't go throw 2 PS2 in less than a year...or like 10+ PS2 during the 6-8years they've owned the console...

On the other side, i can't agree on owning all 3 consoles for all the great games...

Nintendo has always been publishing Mario and Zelda, and yes they are great games, but for this gen....Mario and Zelda every 2-3 years just doesn't justify me in owning Wii... (It's not about the 250bucks, it's about having a console staying in my home and i never turn it on can be rather annoying..)

On the other side, i do agree that owning PS3 and XBox360 at the same time is probably the best thing a gamer could have.

tie between snes and ps2

edit: yeah ps1 launched a few awesome franchises too, but to me the snes has a special spot in gaming.

super mario world 1/2
megaman x 1/2/3
super mario all-stars
chrono trigger
ff 4,5,6
zelda link to the past
super mario rpg
super metroid
donkey kong country 1/2/3
killer instinct
evo search for eden
terranigma
super mario kart

some quick ones that i remember. god that sucker had so many good games it's crazy!

Don't disagree with snes as well but I do think PSX/PSOne would give it a run for its money :)

I actually prefer the PS1 to the PS2 (but find it equal to SNES).

Why? Because PS1 is where a lot of series I liked became awesome, whereas their PS2 continuations failed to interest me on a comparable level. Star Ocean, Suikoden, Final Fantasy, Tales, Metal Gear Solid, Wild ARMs and Breath of Fire...

PS2 launched a lot of fun series, but the PS1 got far more playtime from me (still does.. My PS1 is still hooked up to my TV)

3 - the PS2 is like Muhammed Ali
at some point you He should stop, but you can't tell Zeus to stop throwing lighting bolts, just like you couldn't tell Ali to stop boxing, you can't tell the PS2 to stop selling!

The PS2's userbase is so frickin huge that it's a little hard for it to just "die", plus, some of the best game franchises were on the PS2 or started on the PS2... heck, there's still some PS2 games that I want to buy that I never got around to buying.

Sony said that the PS2 will have a 10 year lifecycle and it has about 2 more years left to go.

Whenever Sony discontinues the PS2, I think that it will be the saddest moment in gaming for me by far because the PS2 was such a awesome console.... I think I'll have to pick up one of those new PS2 models just in case my Fat PS2 ever dies out.

I am slightly sad that I sold me PS2 to buy a PS3, however I did get some good money for it, but to be fair it was a good deal.

$120
-PS2
-2 controllers
-3 games (gran turismo 3, socom, and I forget the other one, I also threw in the demo disk I got for it)
-DVD remote

I'd say thats still a nice deal

but it was the old fat PS2, but it was in perfect condition.

I did a similar trade for my fat PS2 towards a 60gig PS3. Looking back I don't regret it, however, if it was one without hardware PS2 compatibility I wouldn't be feeling the same way. I still play a lot of PS2 games on the PS3.

6 - I must say that if you are an rpg kinda gamer, then you should already have a ps2
It has the most rpgs then every other console put together. Im surprised that a new Grandia or Summoner hasn't come next gen yet. The beautiful thing about Sony is that it has such a big library, they could just take their time and pick which games to make next gen. PS3 users will never have to worry about not getting any new games. Im glad that sony chooses not to buy exclusive 3rd party games cause they have the best in house studios in the market.

What's also fualing great sales is the 40GB ps3. Gotta hand it to Sony; the one thing we dispise of the 40 is insuring the ps2's decade life span

the "real" question come 2010 is what will happen to the compatibility once its dicontinued?

It's not much of a mystery to me why the PS2 is still selling well. In my opinion it has the best and largest library of games for gamers of all types. There's not a single genre that isn't covered on the PS2... and covered well too. Factor in that it's cheap (though I think it should get a price cut sometime soon) and is still supported with big franchises like Guitar Hero and several others. I have a slimline PS2 and a BC PS3 and there's still several PS2 games I plan to go back for that I never had the opportunity to play or interest in at the time. And I don't believe any console this generation can even touch it as a J-RPG machine. It's a beast in that respect and it could be difficult to ever top it.

I didn't always hold this opinion... but as a gamer now I'd say the PS2 was the single greatest console ever made. I know not everyone will agree with that and that's fine. To me it just offered gamers so much and still does. I really hope that by the time the PS3 is as far into its lifecycle that I can look back on it the way I do with the PS2.

It does keep selling, but this system DIES all the time! way more than 360...yet you don't hear any ps3 fanboys mention that about sony. every person i know, including myself, has gone through at least 2 ps2s.
-----
You must have some serious bad luck, I have the original PS2 (fat one) and it plays as good as new never had a problem. What I do find funny is how you claim to never have had a 360 problem (Now thats what I call a 360 Fanboy)heh.
