Of course it can get over hyped. Everything doesn't have to be a game for it to be hyped up. They could have hyped the possibilities of Home up so much and they turn out to be not that great.

but we know everything that is coming, we've seen most of it and we know what its all about, thats what people are getting excited for, they know what to expect ya know an online community where you can socialize with your friends and play games together share stuff and have fun. i agree that everything doesn't have to be a game to get hyped up but in this case and point in time its like you cant really get disappointed, it is what it is and we know what to expect and thats where the hype is coming from. we know what its gunna be and you either want it or you dont, it is what it is.

Yes it can be over hyped and in some peoples eyes it already has. Should it be hyped up...only time will tell. Sometimes too much hype will leave a good product or game with less than stellar results. IMO, I like when games or products are hyped to an extent. When MS, Sony, or Ninty really hype up a game that is coming to their system it tells the developer, Hey we are really looking forward to this game and the consumers are too. It's like getting a standing ovation. IMO I think Sony needs to bring some more hype to Home!

whatever "hype" I've ever had for this game died a long long time ago, one day I will turn on my PS3 and have a nice little add on to my sexy black box.

and yes, it can get over hyped. Anything, can get over hyped. Even your mom.

@sumfood4u-Did not give you a disagree, but anything product, albeit software, food, etc can be hyped. A person can even be hyped. So you ask how can a online virtual world that will have avatars, clothes, shopping, etc. It is a service, software etc...thats how...

this is a shame Home was supposed to come out a long time ago but they keep pushing the date back but im a big ps3home fan but im starting to loose the feeling because i no hackers already have it in closed beta but im sitting here with nothing i really hope that they release it before 2009

basically it can get hyped if things get to rushy and expensive stuff like furniture's etc that is mentioned on the story. because its been delayed many times and i hope they don't delay it again and Sony can mess up any time i don't mean they will im saying basic terms they probably can and the movements and interactions plus the camera view can be tough basic terms.

i dont think home could be as bad as you said it could be. i think if sony is bragging THIS much and is taking THIS long i think it should be as good as they say its going to be. just remember this is going to be thee heart of the psn and home is something major that sony HAS TO do right or it could jeopardize the future of the psn ya know. ill just take an educated guess and say that it will be all that and a bad of potato chips *eats a Lays BBQ potato chip* XD

plus, wouldn't it get hyped before it comes out, like now?

Exactly my thoughts... its free and optional, and its an additional feature that Sony is implementing into your investment. If its sucks dont use it, which I doubt because we wouldn't be talking about this so much if it LOOKED like it suckd.

it already is overhyped, people are expecting this to be the saving grace for the ps3s online functions and features when in reality its everything it already does but put into a 3d enviornment. it is going to get stale very fast. within a week actually , ask any home beta tester, they all stoped playing it within the first week.the only feature home is adding is a party system, but there taking so long to release home that MS has already ripped them off and is implementing this into its new dashboard. the ironic part is that i bet 360s dashboard is probably coming out before the open home beta.

I don't think the PS3s online functions need a saving grace. They have more than enough graces as it is. This is just a little added bonus.

5.3:

you are part of the problem with people overhyping home and PSN.

The problem is not HOME, it's the sony loyalist. Anything coming to PSN is getting overhyped if for no other reason than to best XBL, The very first positive or negative you tout for both services shows your bias.

Anyone who says or actually thinks psn is lagfree doesnt use the service or is completly blind to what lag really is, and anyone who thinks your are forced to pay 50 a year has no idea of the different pay options for xbl and is only going off what they hear.

In the past Sony has overhyped their products. In the current enviroment people like you overhype sony's products and that is where the problem lies.

It IS already over-hyped.

Many people think its a game, and act like its going to be the second coming of Christ!

What it does, it does very well, and its compelling and enjoyable. For those that like community meetings and launching multi player games with friends and such it will change the way you can use your PS3. But if you don't play much online - it will be a novelty that will soon wear off.

I'm one of the lucky beta testers and I do really like it. But I worry that people think its a lot more than it is, and the majority of people fail to understand what it is, and whats its trying to do.

It's totally over-hyped already. Just look at the Home section of the Playstation boards. If it works, it'll be a clever and unique way to set up games with your friends. That's about it.

Whatever happens, they can't go wrong with Home. It's basically a huge interactive lobby/dashboard and that's all someone should be using it for.
What I'm afraid of though is the already slow PSN streaming tons of HD trailers constantly... I'm not sure how well that will perform.

some people need to invest in a dictionary...or just go to the website. This is what I have read, "how can u over hype something that is free", "no it wont get over hyped cause its not a game", "How can a Virtual Myspace be overhyped", "can you over hypre something free and optional"

I present some definitions of overhyped
-publicize in an exaggerated and often misleading manner.
-To publicize or promote, especially by extravagant, inflated, or misleading claims
-To promote or publicize to excess

Now, you will notice......the price of something does not dictate whether or not it can be overhyped, or it does not specify that it has to be a certain object or item. You can overhype how great a public speaker is..and then be disappointed, just as you can overhype the functionality of an object and be let down. This article says that HOME was suppose to be released in 07...well that would fall under "misleading manner/claim" So for some it is overhyped because of that.

Or you can look at it like this....if HOME does not meet or surpass your expectations for it...then on some levels, it was overhyped for you.

20 - it's already been hyped to hell
but what does that have to do with anything?

it's a free service for PS3 fans to communicate with one another and enjoy gaming and other interests together.

it's been the buzz of the gaming world since it's unveiling in early 2007.

i don't know what people are expecting HOME to be, but i'm just looking to have some fun with friends that i don't get to see often, or ever, since we live in different parts of the US and even overseas (since you can invite people from other countries to your personal HOME, private spaces, but you can't see them in the public spaces.
