1.1 - KZ2 is important because it'll pull alot of 360 owners over.
But, HR is a huge deal. Because it really takes games into a more adult direction. Something like playing a movie, where teh mechanics are simple yet effective to get your adrenaline pumping. I'd do a PS3 heavy rain + 1 Blu-ray movie bundle. To really shout out to the adult non-gamers.

Its a big jump for how games can evoke Fear,Anger,Sadness etc..

KZ2 is the system seller for me. I got a 360 for FPS, I had a xbox for FPS. Now I will get a PS3 for FPS. Call me shallow but I know what I like. There are no other games that will make we buy a PS3, Heavy is not a system seller for me. To me the PS3 has more appeal to me than the PS2.

Heavy Rain is important because during 2009 it will help to keep the now famous "Sony's momentum" initiated by Killzone2 and inFAMOUS, those 2 games are a fact they will be great, mainly Killzone 2... Heavy Rain will play the same roll that MSG4 played during 2008 (without comparing them because is not possible) which started with GT5P...

After all that...in the end...THERE WILL ONLY BE CHAOS

This may not be the most important game to us gamers, but overall, it probably is the most important. Everyone* can enjoy it. Everyone* can get emotionally involved in it.

*Everyone only includes people who are old enough to play it (based on rating).

He got tired of passively trolling Killzone 2 articles, bringing up Gears of War 2 in comparison and then losing bubbles because of it. Now he's on the side of Killzone 2, trying to fool people that he's been innocent this whole time.

2 - I agree its important but
what Killzone 2's multiplayers experience can potentially bring to the table, it could be a experience that everybody wants on their console.

Fair point, like KZ2, GoW may get higher sales or more praise from the hardcore community but Heavy Rain could open a lot of doors for Sony, usher in a new age of gaming and bringing with it a new "breed" of gamers who may not be interested in what is currently offered by the sector (ie Gow1+2 or FPS shooters).

I think the new age this generation is the Wii age.

And unless they can be tempted over to try it out (which would be difficult) then I doubt that will ever happen.

Yes but those people are likely to already be into gaming or more importantly the PS brand. HR could pull in completely new consumers, who's needs/desires go above and beyond hack n slash and FPS games.

If GoW 1 + 2 or the horde of currently available FPS shooters havent attracted people newer editions of the both arent likely to, HR could be what some have been waiting for, something less conventional, something with a little more substance.

Sony need to attract new custom, not simply appease those they already have on "their side".

hmmm just one more proof that mr Reeves knows jack sh!t about games. Dent get me wrong, Heavy Rain is in my top 3 list, but if you watched video interviews with this guy, it is so obvious that he learned about games from some book before he got into this biz. Dude knows nothing about games, and ignoring importance of Kz2 just shows how dumb he is.

Also since heavy Rain is SCEEurope game, and since there is a lot of competition between SCEA(even if they are pretending there is none) of course they are going to forget GOW3, Uncharted 2, and what not is coming next year.....o and yeah Infamous, all 3 games i mentioned are SCEA games not SCEE. So it is normal that this guy is hyping Buzz and Singster, since he is responsible for them not Jack tretton.

Anyways dont pay much attention to interviews and titles like these, since they are VERY misleading and lets say...FAKE.

Well personally I wouldn't consider Heavy Rain the "most" important title for next year, but I think that it's the 2nd or 3rd most important title.

I'd have to go with God of War 3 or Killzone 2 as the most important titles for next year for the PS3 that have already been confirmed.

But a lot of a lot of games are going to be fighting for that title, especially Killzone and God of War.

No way in hell is heavy rain more important than killzone 2. That cgi target footage of killzone 2 was the first we saw of what was promised for the ps3.

KZ2 was being hyped as the ps3's killer ap fps years before the system even came out, and years before anyone had even heard of heavy rain. KZ2 is not only the most important title for the ps3 for next year, other than maybe lbp, its the most important title for the ps3 ever for its life span so far, even more so than mgs4. KZ2 has to deliver, plain and simple.

I doubt it. While I am excited for the game, I doubt this will appeal to a lot of people. It is an intense dark, adult themed game. Not to mention it is an action game, which don't exactly excite people

16 - I kind of agree with him but...
At the same time there are alot of other great titles for the ps3 coming in 2009. As much as I am hoping that HR delivers because u rarely find titles like this around, but there are alot of other great titles such as god of war 3, killzone 2, that may stand in the way if HR isnt spaced out right with any of these titles release date schedule. I think it will be a big title for the ps3 but biggest game of 2009? We will have to wait and see more gameplay footage before I can fully agree with him there. All in all no doubt 2009 will be the best year for the ps3 in its life cycle as we know of now.

is an amazing looking game, there's no doubt about that, it's the game play that worries me.
But then again it's this type of control scheme that made God of War such a success.

ah well, at least it looks like Sony is doing well to make up for it

in fact... perhaps the FF13 thing was a good thing- it seems to have gotten Sony more hard-working at getting new games and features out

23 - Heavy Rain is an important
game for the PS3 next year because it is truly doing something different with the medium, and on a large scale and budget.

sure, Indigo Prophecy initiated a lot of the gameplay elements in Heavy Rain, but not at the scale of Heavy Rain, and with the backing of a major corporation like Sony.

if this game catches on (think of it like an interactive episode of Law and Order, or 24, or any adult oriented drama on TV), it could serve to broaden the gaming market to an older demographic in a way that the Wii hasn't, and CAN'T, from a technology standpoint.

the controls are simple enough in HR. the QTEs look to be a bit more intuitive. ie, the guy swings a knife at you, and the button to defend yourself, let's say, "SQUARE" appears on screen following the arc of the knife, the camera cuts to a lamp that you can use to hit the guy over the head, and "CIRCLE" appears over the lamp, instead of just in the center of the screen like most QTEs are. it makes the gist of the scene easier to follow for even a casual gamer. the only hurdle would be them getting familiar with the Square, Cirlce, Triangle, X, layout of the PS3 pad. but we ALL go through that when we get a new console that has an unfamiliar layout.

with a mature, serious story not just revolving around the standard cliches and norms of the industry, Heavy Rain could incite a large shift in the way games are perceived by the mass market.

like David Cage said, the engine is very scalable, and all sorts of different types of stories can be told using it. from drama, to suspense, naturally (like Heavy Rain), to action, to i'm sure even comedy or romance.

my roommate's fiance plays games, but more the Marios, Animal Crossings, etc, but i guarantee if there was a game with some of the themes from a Juno or Mama Mia in it, she'd flock to it.

my fiance is interested in Heavy Rain, though she worries about the QTEs, but then again, she's into games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Silent Hill, and Mass Effect, so the range of tastes amongst gamers, male and female, vary.

gaming is so narrow-minded in the way it views itself. even the developers and publishers are still catering to the young adult male demographic. even after 25+ years of growth and change. Nintendo found what could get the non-gamer market to pick up a controller, but now we need to find what will get them to come back again and again and actually go out and BUY a game or console for themselves, instead of playing their son's, daughter's, grandson's, or granddaughter's console.

one hurdle is pricing. $60 is just TOO much for a game.

if they release Heavy Rain at $40. and then charge a fair price for each new "episode," (say, $10 for a 3 hour adventure, due to development time and interactivity), that could break down that barrier. after all, movie tickets range from $10-$15 dollars these days, and you aren't directly influencing the story like in Heavy Rain.

like i said, it's a very important game to Sony because of it's potential. but don't just limit it in your mind to the "suspense," or "horror" genres. the spectrum of story-telling is just too wide, so why video games should continue to limit themselves simply because they are interactive is disappointing, and i think, damaging to the medium as a whole.
