It's been a long time -- 10 years, to be exact -- since 151 was considered "a lot" of Pokémon. With 493 pocket monsters available for capture in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, it's a minor miracle that Nintendo's still able to come up with so many interesting designs. Well, mostly. 2.1 - Maybe for you.
Last time I checked, Diamond and Pearl had sold over 15 million copies. That's more alive than probably 95% or more of the rest of the world's gaming franchises right now. More than WoW, GTA4 (both systems combined), Halo3 (All Halo games combined probably), CoD4 (both systems combined), SMG, Twilight Princess, Mario Kart, etc., etc., etc.

In regards to lame Pokemon, there are a few Pikachu lookalikes now, which is just pathetic. They do need to stop making new ones in such large quantity at once, and continue to focus more on enhancing the gameplay. IMO anyway.

It was definitely one of the best named Pokemon. Half squirrel, half Turtle, and it "squirts" water from its mouth.
