not to foret to mention

- its a limited edition so it will only be available for a short time.
(wont be available after the limited editions are sold)
- no america release

incredibly stupid and unfair for those not getting a hand on the pad since your enemy will have a slight advantage with the 32 way dpad when playing evo online for example.

way to go ms keep destroying your userbase

All the buttons are pressure sensitive (except the shoulders). They have been since the original xbox controller.

With the 360 controller. Guess it was costing them too much. =/

what the hell?.....that is so stupid. Not even MS are that idiotic are they?

Aside from the fact the controller needs fixing, its only LE and available everywhere BUT usa?

Is there a limited edition of xbox's that dont rrod by any chance?

5 - Incredibly DUMB...
.... if they are really keeping this limited, instead of just replacing the normal controller with this.

The 360 joypad is great, except for the D-Pad. So why not just fix that FOR GOOD!? Idiots... :(

i know controller preference is very subjective to each person; but, i think the 360 controller is too bulky/fat. if they could slim it down some i think it would be much better. i'm not fond of the offset analog sticks but it's not unworkable.

Hmmmmmm.....No they need to leave the controller design the way it is (Perfect). But the D-pad does need fixing so they did so. If anybody needs to change controller design it is sony. How about fixing the problem of my right thumb rolling off the thumbstick.

well thats why the ps3 pad is the way it is and the 360 pad is the way it is.

For all the reasons you mention, that is why i like the 360 pad over the ps3 pad. there are a lot of shooting games that i just can't play on the ps3 cos of the pad. i only wish i could use the 360 pad on my ps3, i prob would play on it a lot more.

anyway, it is personal pref and a lot of people that play on the 360 love the shape and feel of the pad just the way it is.

as many point out, the only problem with it is the d-pad.

Ms are being thick about this issue. i don't know whats wrong with them lately. i just don't feel impressed... ( ok now i am talking about something else, you will all get to find out about it soon- its fable related ) anyway, blah, blah, blah... i am rambling.

6.5 - The controller is pretty much perfect
Except the D-pad is worthless and the L and R buttons are placed a bit too high, or need to be made thicker.

that reminds me of the problem ppl had with the original xbox gamepad, penny arcade even made two awesome strips about it. one where the guy who designed the gamepad had HUGE hands and one where gabe was playing a xbox game and they "secretly" changed his pad with a bear and he didn't even feel a thing!
man those two comics were awesome. i also remember a few from ico and devil may cry...damn penny arcade really is awesome :)

its not useless for all fighting games, if you check out any soul calibur 4 forums you'll see that almost everyone uses analog stick and they have no complaints about it.

I dont think they get it, the problem is the entire d-pad, not how many direction input the d pad can accept. 8 direction is more than enough for anything fighting games really, the problem is the crappy design d-pad physically.

boodybandit - 503 days 18 hours ago
9 - Please tell me that isn't an actual picture of the new designed D pad
and they are just using the standard pad as a reference picture for the article. It's not just the D pads response that is the problem IMHO. The design of the (Direction) pad itself just doesn't feel right for fighting games.

I was really excited to hear MS was fixing the D pad (it's the only thing about the controller I don't care for), but I guess the proof will be in functionality. I am looking forward to trying it out.

Nope, that's the new pad. It only comes in that colour and the only change is to the D-Pad, which has been specifically designed for PES2009.

Same way if you bought ps3 more than 3 months back for you to enjoy rumble you have to buy Rumble controller and if you bought 20gb version and you have more than 10 games you 'd require to buy new hard drive.
Shut this user up Let user speak
beavis4play - 503 days 17 hours ago
10.2 - psycho360,
i guess you forgot about the 360 "core" system with no HDD and wired controllers? and the lack of an HDD is bigger issue cause it keeps devs from using it as part of game development. and then there's the lack of hdmi on many 360 consoles. we won't get into the dvd9 storage problem or paying for online gameing (which is free everywhere else). and as far as rumble is concerned.....i haven't got one yet. i never thought it was essential to gaming. may pick one up in the future cause i need a second controller when friends stop by. and updating to a new HDD on ps3 is simple and economical. sony doesn't force you to buy proprietary HDDs like ms does. you can get a 300 gig HDD for 70$ and you're set. too bad ms doesn't give people this freedom.

Well no different than having to buy a new controller if you want rumble for the ps3. Or buy cables if you want to hook your ps3 to a HDtv, or buy a headset for the ps3 if you want to talk to people online, or buy longer cables or a charger station cause you cant play and charge with the ps3 cause the cables are like 2 feet long. And to the fool talking about wireless adapter give it a rest would ya, you would have to be an idiot to game on wireless when you can do a stable wired connection.

And what is your comment's on rumble controller and Hd cable's? And it is very easy to run cable. I have wired my whole house 24 drops. But you said yourself you would rather have wired , sorry but wireless is not as fast as wired especially a gigabit network which streaming Hd videos from my Pc to my ps3 is flawless.

I can answer that one along with others. Keep in mind that Price plays a huge factor.

HDMI is digital, You can get a good HDMI cable for under $10, and that's all you will need for every single PS3 ever released.

Not all xbox 360 has HDMI ports. At least 8 million of them do not have a HDMI port if were to base on the number of xbox 360 sold before the release of xbox 360 v2.0 HDMI. So you will have to buy a HDMI xbox 360 if you even want to use HDMI, oh you will still need to buy the cable too. Unless you get a ELite.

So lets do some math here, just a $10 hdmi cable? or $250-$350 xbox 360 + $10 Hdmi cable if you don't get the $$$elite.

Headsets
The PS3 uses Bluetooth technology, so you can use any Bluetooth headset for your in-game chit chat. If you have a cellphone you most likey already have a bluetooth headset. Most drivers that talk and drive should already have it due to the new LAW. So you can consider a PS3 headset pratically FREE since you most likey already have it or will be getting it for your normal cell phone driving talking, etc.
The xbox 360 headset is wired which you will only use with the xbox 360, I don't think you will be using that walking on the street.

Rumble
I can play Fighting games, preform all the move and combos without rumble. You can live without Rumble. But a bad D-pad will give you suckie control which will make it much harder to preform special moves and combos.

Wifi and Wired
For online gaming you will only go as fast as your internet connection. My speed is 3MB down so it won't make a difference if I use wired or wifi. But wifi will save me from doing wiring and the cost of the wire.

And it still wont work as well as Sonys D-pad.. Go figure. Then again the 360 controller has never been really responsive all together. Add the batteries in the mix and other than the look I dont see why people like it much.

Anyone take a close look at that hand in the middle of the controller? Is this a subtle sign from MS to the US? I've captured it here:

the d pad on the 360 is horrible, to make it a LE is a stupid decision by MS. The 360 controller is the reason I buy fighting, racing, and sports games on the PS3 (madden 09 was an exception).
Sony also needs to fix their controller and make it a little bit bigger.

I heard from several gamers the 360 controller was really good for playing anything except fighting games... I can't confirm that since I didn't play with it too much. What's the gripe with it in its actual state? The D-PAD?

the d pad is unresponsive and moves are extremely hard to execute.
Download the Street Fighter 2 demo for the arcade if you want to find out out how bad it is. Another problem I have with it is the design, feels like an anlaog stump, its also slightly angled if you look at it closely.

This is stupid. If they are going to release an alternative version of their controller they should redesign it lots more.

Make it feel like an alternative, not a limited edition rip-off.

It's true you can't make everyone happy. Perhaps Microsoft is trying out the controller before they announce a mass roll out. They haven't slighted 360 gamers when it comes to peripherals. I do agree that the only problem with the HDD solution is that it's to expensive. Other than that this new controller is a small but welcome upgrade.
