Off the top of our heads, every one of us can name ten games with far worse dialogue than this - dialogue that truly deserves to be made fun of. I could give you a manifesto from MGS4. And let's see if any lists go up when RE5 launches. They should. Clearly this author seems to not enjoy the game. But if this is the worst one can gripe about it, I may have to check it out.

And some of those lines actually sound damn cool.

Do you understand anything about this game? It is based on Norse Mythology so the people talk like vikings. Man, this is why this article sucks because without the context you make the assumption like you did.

Vikings didn't speak in English, to start with.

It's like a bad movie where the Nazis talk with German accents while speaking English. Absolutely no need for awkward sentence construction. If they wanted to make it authentic, they could have made them speak in some Scandinavian language, not broken English.

This game is as close to Norse Mythology as Eaters of the Dead was to Beowulf. Lots of artistic liberties. The fact there's robots makes the entire Norse mythology schtik nonsense.

And I you can't have a movie about Nazi Germany for English speaking people without having them speak English. It's a commonly excepted style for movies that would be entirely in a foreign language otherwise. They do it in the accent because that is the most they can do. And don't give me that subtitle idea. If subtitles were any good at all everything would have subtitles. No one picks subtitles as their first choice. Unless they are Mel Gibson.

First of all, it seems to mean to be quite melodramatic in writing, that being said, I'll explain myself:

10) "What would monsters want with the Norn's datastacks?"

Hard to judge this one, we haven't played through it (though he states we know nothing about it). But there's nothing wrong with the writing.

9) "Make sure courage guides your sword hand, not your fear."
Why would courage guide your fear? That makes no sense.

It obviously means don't let fear guide your sword, bad syntax.

8) "Make sure you die on your feet and not cowering behind some fetid corpse."

It's not common speech therefore it's ridiculous?

7) "I aim to get out of here."
"Yeah, but will it be in a bag or on a pair of Valkyrie wings?"
"Damn comedians."

Context needed, sounds bad though

6) "Come on, boys, let's party."
Wait, did I really hear that? Did one of my followers just enjoin his cyber-Norse companions to "party"? What game is this again? And can I get David Cross in here for a reading of that line?

Context

5) "We shall free the world from cold stagnation."

Really that bad?

4) "Your fear soaks your armor. I can smell it."
Not many videogames feature characters who smell each other.

It's not literal.

3) "There be monsters here."

What's wrong with that?

2) "As executor of the will of the Aesir, I will destroy you."
Then, as the keeper of the materiel manifest for the Aesir, I will either equip or sell the items that you drop.

Sounds lame in writing, but it's not really bad :/

1) "Did you toast to me when I lay upon a marble slab in hell?"
This line is followed by an awkward silence. No joke. The character says it at a party and then everyone clams up and won't make eye contact with him. I'm not sure why, because I'd long since given up trying to make sense of what passes for a story in Too Human. But in my head, the awkward silence was from everyone wondering whether to correct his usage of "lay".

The fact he couldn't get the meaning of that is why I questioned his intelligence, it really is quite obvious :/

We are not going out of our way to bash this game, but we are enjoying some ridiculous lines of dialogue. What I can't get my head around is that you are so busy defending a game that you may or may not be enjoying, just because some of us are having a good time.

Dyak invited the criticism when he baited people on message boards and attacked videogame journalists for the past 3 years. If he or his game can't take it then he shouldn't have dished it out.

There is a huge difference between someone eccentric and somewhat annoying like Cliffy B doing his shtick but then delivering an amazing game like Gears and dyak being so confrontational and then delivering a mediocre product like Too Human.

The question should be why you're attacking this game so much? There's nothing particularly wrong with the dialogue and as rightly pointed out by Mc Fadge above, the author is plain daft with certain quotes. Pick up a copy of Conan or Thor comic book, the dialogue is pretty much the same. PS fans try so hard to laugh at something that is unfunny just to put it down, its pathetic. Do your worst, fools.
