British Army Picks 360 [Controller] Over PS3

Game Revolution writes: "As you can see from their recruitment video, the UK Army is using the Xbox 360 controller to fly their robot assassin planes. Do want!

In ten years, there will be no reason to have a pilot in a combat plane at all, and not only are we witnessing the beginning of that shift, gaming is a driving force behind it.

It makes perfect sense, after all. Game controllers have been evolving for over 20 years, becoming more ergonomic and sophisticated every generation. The 360 controller is also USB-based and has both Windows and Linux drivers."

Actually the article needs to be edited. They picked the controller not the console. When it comes to training and premission planning they actually picked the PC over the PS3 and 360. Why? Because they chose VBS2 over everything - and it is PC based. I own my own copy and it does everything.

It is the most comprehensive warfighter simulation ever. In use by the ADF, The Marines, USAJFKSWCS (United States Army Special John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School) US Army National Simulation Center, Canadian Defense Forces, the British Ministry of Defence, and quite a few other government and military forces around the world.

Maps can reach 200K X 200K. Most maps are less than that, just under 100 K Square. But that means you can get on a helo and fly 30 minutes to a target and hit it. You get realistic airstrikes and weapons performance. It is as close as you can get in the sim world.

I have over a 1000 vehicles in my version. There are literally over a thousand weapons as well. And an editor like you wouldn't believe. It is all drop down menus and such.

You should be in luck Bladestar.Call of Duty 4 on the 360 and Trauma center on the DS have the exact same graphical horsepower.Its a good thing when 360 goes full power and looks like a DS game,better than expected.The PS3 version and its next gen graphics makes the 360 version look like an Atari game at best

i seen a video of a Army guy using the xbox controler maybe 6 months ago on the Miltary Channel

He was not using it to fly a plane or anything close! It was a remote TRACKED mounted gun with good optics! And it was a heavy modded xbox controler

This is a total recruiting tool and its funny to think the writer of this pile of sh!t thinks that plane was killing tool!

The true HUNTER/KILLER unmaned planes are not run by a game controler!

I prefer it for just about everything else except fighting games, d-pad of course. It just feels right. The sixaxis feels to lightweight, and I'm ashamed to say I haven't had the money to try out the shock axis yet.

Why is that? It's much more sensitive and accurate than the 360's controller. The only thing I can see why someone would say the 360's analog stick is better is because of the groove so you thumb can rest on it. That's one of the things I like about the 360's analog stick.

It's because Microsoft have provided official driver support for their 360 controllers for PC software. 360 controllers are used by many for pretty much anything, the drivers are on Microsoft's website.

Sony have yet to do this but there are unofficial ways to make the Sixaxis and DS3 work with some e.g. PC games, but not many recognise the device.

What does the 360 itself have to do with this? This is solely the controller design.

The 360 controller is said by a lot of people to be the better FPS controller, since people in the Army are more likely to play FPS games surely this just makes logical sense.
