Yeah you're right. Looking back at past VGChartz posts, I see that people on both sides still doubt the numbers, but not to the degree of what happens when 360 is in the lead. It's amazing how fast this site has turned around. Last year at this time, it was a disaster zone if you came here as a PS3 fan, but since January of this year it's been completely the opposite.

we all know how crappy VGChartz is. We also know by now to wait for NPD numbers if we really care. Owning a PS3 and 360, I honestly could care less. I would prefer that they both sell at a similar rate from here on out so as to keep the competition level very high between the two heavyweights. When the competition is neck and neck, it can only be good for us, the consumers.

The kid who runs the site calls himself ioi. He use to post his fake numbers on console messageboards until he was permabanned for his garbage and went off and created vgchartz so he could continue putting out fake/inflated 360 sales numbers without interference.

People can't honestly think that some little website has the resources to:

1) Track retailers who sell console hardware and software

2) Do so in large enough quantity to get meaninful data and actually have stores willing to share their sales data with some little website or actually have the time and man power to visit enough stores across the country every week

3) Do all of this for essentially free for what NPD charges game companies for

4) And even more, do it for all major console regions. Something that even big paid for retail research firms can't do or handle

5) And finally and most ridiculously do it every week instead of every month like NPD does

It's just some little kid Xbox fan typing numbers into his computer. Make the 360 ones as high as he can get away with. Make the PS3 ones as low as he can get away with. Weeeee!!!

5 - I can care less what they show for numbers

January and February vgchartz had 360 destroying the ps3 in U.S. numbers.

Yet when NPD time came around, those numbers were different.

So as usual, they are "assuming" numbers. And they are so high because they "assume" people are jumping on the price break

And as usual, if the NPD shows their numbers to be off (sometimes WAY off), vgchartz won't even bother to correct them

Vgchartz little game is to:

Massively inflate the weekly 360 sales numbers

Throw a fit about how their 'data' is actually more reliable than NPD when the real numbers come out

Adjust the numbers somewhat but still keep the inflated 360 sales, just less so

Once a quarter when the companies report shipments do a massive correction before everyone realizes that the 360 sold > 360 shipped

That way the teenage Xbox fan at vgchartz can keep fake sales numbers giving the impression the 360 is selling much, much better than it really is every week in the headlines. And no one ever posts articles(or notices) when he is forced to do the quarterly shipment correction.

This why the numbers don't seem to add up and many people can't believe the PS3 is only 4.5 million or so behind the 360 now - because they literally DON'T add up.

VG Chartz underestimated PS3 sales for the month of June a lot and the PS3 went on to go and sell a lot more than what they predicted.

I'm guessing that VG Chartz "thinks" that 360 sales will all of a sudden be higher just because of the Xbox 360 20GB model being lowered to $299, but the funny thing is that Microsoft has a Xbox 360 Arcade at $279, but the PS3 has been outselling the Xbox 360 almost every month of this year still.

the statistical difference between vgchartz and npd numbers is not large enough for people to start throwing cyber temper tantrums. keep it to yourself. you're just setting yourself up for heartbreak anyway because it will almost take a small miracle for the PS3 to catch up to and surpass the X360. Even the gains the PS3 has made recently are a drop in the bucket compared to the 5 million console base lead that the X360 already has.

Yeah, too much time. the 360 is already halfway through it's lifecycle. And it hasn't even hit it's mass-market price of $199 which it will before the PS3. At this rate by the time the PS3 even gets a sniff of catching up to the X360 Microsoft will be releasing its new console and no gamers will really care when there is a console out with 2-3 gb of ram putting out graphics that make this gen look silly. I know I won't care about the 360 or PS3 at that point.

Like I said, don't sweat it. I never owned a playstation. I owned Nintendo products before buying the original xbox which ended up a third place console but I didn't care because it had awesome games like KOTOR, Halo, and Fable. Plus there was nothing comparable to xbox live at the time so I was happy.

What are you talking about, vchart fail miserably all the time. I remember once upon a time the 360 had a 10 million lead, and now its all the way down to 5. What does that tell you? the ps3 is in fact gaining ground on the 360. if the ps3 cut the 360 lead in half in one and half year, in another 1.5 year the ps3 will catch up to the 360. And vchart has been proven wrong time and time again, they predicted that the 360 out sold the ps3 in the month of january, february and may, but when NPD number was released it showed that the ps3 was the one that came on top. And so far the ps3 has outsold the 360 in NA, where the 360 only hope of surviving relies at.

its been accurately projected that VG is not reliable in the sense of statisticly inflated 360 numbers, and deflated PS3 numbers...

I am not saying that its wrong right now...just that many have shown American VG projections month after month compared to NPD numbers...and you can get a pretty good idea of how they are normally significantly off...

and save the 'now you say VG is not reliable' crap crab...when they have the PS3 ahead of the 360...NPD usually backs that up, and the PS3 is farther ahead than estimated...when they have the 360 ahead week after week...its usually either wrong, or both consoles are under 5k difference...not saying thats the case with the sku-drop MS just did for this week...but you have to realize that these numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt...regardless of which console you prefer...

whatever...good for the 360...but didn't Sony get hassled about this same type of thing a year ago?...funny how its no longer a big deal...

No company could be more arrogant than Microsoft. Instead of focusing on their own 1st party studios, they're concentrating on snagging timed exclusives and ripping off of ideas from other companies. Not only that, they wave it in the faces of their competitors.

The RROD is still a persistent problem and I find it laughable that instead of remodeling the 360 from scratch so it doesn't happen again, Microsoft hands out warranties like candy. What, they didn't think people will get sick and tired of bringing it in or something?

Because I'm sure the people who brought it back in for the five or sixth time gave up and bought a PS3. And the article you're using as evidence are back in 2006/2007 when Ken was still working at Sony. I'm referring to *now*, not back in 2006/2007.

the biggest system sellers are ALWAYS price drops. MGS4 was an extremely impressive system seller for a game, and so far, the only exclusive this year to really move any consoles. How many 360's did NG2 sell?

First of all, I said "this year" and all your ignorant, f@ggot a$$ could give me was games that were over a year old each. If you ask any person on the planet whether Halo 3 or a price drop would make them buy a 360, they would tell you a price drop. And, to be honest, Halo 3 definitely didn't push many systems at all. By the time it came out, the 360's base was too well established. Your fanboy statements don't really affect me either way, though, as I own both consoles. I'm just happy I didn't have to pay for my 2 360's.

A/c VGchart, MS raped Sony last week. That was good number if it is true. I am glad MS console is selling good. I like my PS3 and Games i want to play will be releasing on PS3 (killzone 2, RFoM2, LBP, call of duty 5, Resident Evil 5, FF13, God of War, and many others) no matter what sales looks like but at least Sony will learn some lession from this console war, I hope.

I don't get why the PS3 is not selling more than the 360 by now. I mean that overheating RRoD piece of sh*t is still selling? The PS3 in my opinion should have overrun the 360 in sells. Sony's PS3 has been getting better and better with all its updates and new games coming out for it. It better be selling a lot when HOME comes out for the Playstation 3. B/c the only thing that Microsoft did for the 360 was give it a new dashboard and a couple of games.
