Too Human, played the demo and loved it

Sarcasticgamer.com plays the Too Human demo and loves every minute of it.

From the article: "While this demo has been out for about a week now, I just got my Xbox 360, aka my off-white albino turd, back from it's Texas repair center. After playing my old favorites, I went online to pick up the latest demos and Silicon Knights' Too Human Demo was there, waiting for me. Everybody has heard all about Too Human and it's tales of woe. We've heard that it's been in development for 10 years. That people hated on it's first showing at E3 2006. How about Silicon Knights suing Epic over the Too Human engine issues. Who could forget the latest gossip about Dennis Dyak going after moron forum trolls on NeoGaf.

Yes, the game has a ton of baggage, but, ya know what? The demo is pretty friggin' good. I am now genuinely excited for this game. I'll explain, after the jump."

I guess this is another Assassin's Creed meaning it's a love it hate it game. I like the game, but it does get a little repetitive.

I'm kinda indifferent about this game at this point. Don't get me wrong, I was really looking forward to this game but now I'm not sure and I can tell you EXACTLY why!

It's the whole control thing. I mean, as 360 gamers we have gotten accustomed to certain buttons ALWAYS doing the same actions in certain games. But in Too Human, this is not the case. I mean the right stick, doesn't control the camera!!!

I guess there is just a huge learning curve when playing this game that I don't know if I want to get usto.

But that being said, the game looks really good if you can go thru that learning curve. Maybe I'll give the demo a couple more tries to see if it can work for me.

There is always a learning curve with every game. I don't think Too Human's is too steep. It is just right for a game with a different controller setup.

Take Halo 3 for instance. It took me a while to get used to using RB for my reload instead of X. I kept throwing out my special items instead of reloading. It sucked for a while but when you get used to new controls then you start to enjoy a game much more.

i was apprehensive after what have now turned out to be overly harsh reviews.

the game is very good, the graphics are nice, and it's a day one purchase for me...i cant wait to hit the co-op either!

i'm just gonna peek in the open zone to see the fanboys who dont have a 360 hate another quality game

"I mean the right stick, doesn't control the camera!!! "

It would seriously depend on how the camera angles are locked by the developer. If done right, the right analog stick for camera movement may not big that big of an issue.

God of War 1 and 2 for example. Those games had locked camera angles but was never a problem.

No mass market game but it can become a special game for those who like this sort of thing.

The only other demo that I've played 5 times through was Bioshock. The first time I played the TH demo, it was kinda boring, but then I went through it again and I thought "Hey this is kinda fun." The third time I played it was, "Wow this game is awesome."

I don't know how. But I've fallen in love with the Bioengineer, he's almost as tough as the Defender and is much faster with melee weapons. And then there's his spiders which are ridiculously powerful (EMP anybody?). Defender is a close second for me, largely for his ability to keep standing and his penchant for MK's Sub Zero like abilities.

I suspect the Berserker will be most peoples favourite though. He's so fast and fluid in combat. Great for combo building.

NOTE TO ALL DEVELOPERS: IF THE AI IN YOUR GAME IS COMPLETELY BRAIN DEAD AND DUMBER THAN A SOPHOMORE CHEERLEADER ON ECSTASY AND HALF A BOTTLE OF WINE, LET SARCASTIC GAMER REVIEW YOUR GAME BECAUSE THEY WILL APPARENTLY OVERLOOK ANYTHING.

Seriously, the enemy and friendly AI have to be some of the dumbest in gaming history. I think the game grows on people because they become numb to the entire affair.

The AI (AI - a misnomer) under your supposed command (you don't control anything) are window dressing because the enemy could care less if they are there. Want to beat the enemy? One word = STAIRS. I have seen 80 year old ladies that could do a better job of negotiating that obstacle.

My god if this isn't proof the media is biased. had this been a PS3 exclusive, the media and everyone else woud be completely ripping it to shreds in every possible way.

But, it's a 360 exclusive so regardless of MULTIPLE gamers saying it sucks all around the net, the media is defending it as if it's their own creation.

the only ones saying it sucks are the fanboys who haven't played it. Most people are like it's not for me, or it's pretty average, it's not bad in any way.

Don't listen to the comments on N4G, go play the game yourself.

I'm talking about known pro-MS gamers on forums such as NeoGAF saying the game isn't all that.

I don't have a 360, so I have yet to play the game myself (and my friends who do have 360s are too cheap to pay for LIVE), but judging from the vast majority of user responses, the game isn't that bad, and it's not good either.

However, you have to admit that if this was a PS3 exclusive, it would be getting burnt to a crisp by everyone.

Xi - 513 days 9 hours ago
10.3 - I wouldn't admit that.
Just because games like Lair, and Haze didn't get burnt to a crisp until after they were released and it was obvious that the games were lacking in most departments.

Plus this game has already recieved so much hate, people say it's been in development for 10 years like they haven't had to switch platforms, engines etc.

fanboys would be defending it tooth and nail. Notice how most people are saying they thought it would suck but they liked it. Ive seen ps3 fanboys say Resistance was better than Halo, Lair was awesome, Heavenly Sword isn't too short etc... MGS4 is probably still goty so far, but other consoles can have a good game come out on it too.

Well mr roman numeral, I played it and it blows chunks the size of a Volkswagen. The AI is horrendous, the camera system makes Ninja Gaiden look like a well engineered affair, the level up system is unnecessarily convoluted, and the controls were a sad attempt to be different and evolutionary and instead just wound up being ridiculous.

AI as I stated above is anything but intelligent and the game suffers from one of those conditions where NPCs on your side are window dressing as the enemies are ignorant of and unaffected by their existence. I remember coming back onto the bridge and watching the enemy horde, who had not been fighting in my absence mind you, run past my subordinates and charge me even though I was 100 meters or more away.

I am still laughing as every time one of my 'men' became stuck between one of the bosses legs and began to shake like he was doing the St Vitus Dance. Wonderful glitching there.

There was a time when they had a wonderful story where the player was forced to question the fact he was giving up their humanity in order to combat the growing threat. Sadly this Ghost in the Shell influenced idea was completely removed from the game along with any shred of a cyberpunk story and replaced with this ridiculous Norse mythology.

SK has forgotten that if you want good science fiction to be gritty it needs to have an air of believability, an ounce of realism and a thread of emotion. Too Human has none.

11 - I liked it the first time.
but the game does shine through after multiple playthroughs.

One thing to be wary of is the micro managing of items, if you hate pausing every 15-20 min to update armor skills etc you might not enjoy the game as much.

Also the graphics are hit and miss, at times they are phenomenal and the camera embellishes them, other times they fall a bit flat.

15 - Something about this game just really felt incomplete.
I know its just a demo,, and Im trying to give it the benefit of the doubt,, but it just doesnt live up to the hype that dlyan was trying to portray it as. Its not that its a complete failure of a game,, but seriously,, Ive played last gen games that are way more fun than this game.

Hack and slashers/rpg's are in a genre of their own. Just look at Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, a spectacular action gaming mechanic with a robust rpg element, and its on a freaking hand held! I just think that we should have got more than what we got considering they have been working on this game since the ps1 days. Cmon, look at games like God of War and Metal Gear. If they can make a superb game in 2 or 3 years then why the heck cant Silicon Knights?

So besides all that,, I'm happy that some people are actually having fun with this game. It seems to me that 360 fans will honestly buy and like any game just because its exclusive for there system. For instance, just look at Viva Pinata. You can say that Im wrong, but its a trend I see over and over again. I've owned every system to ever grace upon this Earth,, and I know a good game when I see one. This game just doesn't live up to the standards of next gen gaming is all about, especially since its been 10 years in the making. I would never wish bad on anyone, but it just sad when people buy rubbish like this.

"Ive played last gen games that are way more fun than this game" maybe you should go back and play them.......nothing like 2human on current consoles.....you fail.

"considering they have been working on this game since the ps1 days" yes they been doing 2human non stop 24/7 for 200 years lol. fail X 2

"Cmon, look at games like God of War and Metal Gear" none of those are rpg or are available for the 360 I know where are you coming from little one, fanboy in desgu...

"I'm happy that some people are actually having fun with this game." oohh realy?lol

"I've owned every system to ever grace upon this Earth,, and I know a good game when I see one." ......me thought this was about 2human....my bad...this is about how much you know about games, always about you.

"This game just doesn't live up to the standards of next gen gaming is all about, especially since its been 10 years in the making. I would never wish bad on anyone, but it just sad when people buy rubbish like this."

but I thought you were happy....I can quote you if you like?

Its a good game, just not a brilliant one.

Given the long history of waiting for it, it had lots to live up to.
But prehaps an even greater burden, its has long been held up by theose embroilled in the 'kiddie wars' as a brilliant exclusive 360 title that would pawn all and be a super desirable game that would make owners of inferior games systems jealous.

Given the silly expectation levels, it could never live up to expectations. However, if you take it for what it is, it's an enjoyable hack n slash - its just not a genre defining stand out title.

If it were any longer, I'd buy it as I like the style of game, but a 10 hour completion time (including the unskippable cut scenes), means the game is far too short for a game this type for me. I'd definately consider the purchase if it were at least twice as along, but at 9 hours of gameplay, I'll have to pass. shame, as we don't see enough titles like this any more..

18.1 - um
you can skip the cutscenes by pressing B shortly after they start.

that makes me question the validity of your entire arguement. Have you actually played the game? On what grounds are you calling it "average"?

also the story is 10 hours, however it will take 10 hours to level you to 25, with a maximum level of 50 for grinding, probably 2 or 3 more play throughs, your character will also continue into the next games so you start the next too human as level 50.

I don't buy this 10hr "completion time". I played the demo for 1hr and completed 5% of the game, so to do one complete playthrough is going to take me at least 100/5 * 1hr = 20hrs. Add the diverse classes, skill trees, leveling, co-op and different story endings and I'm pretty sure this will last me well into next year. :)

19 - I still recommend folks rent this first.
I still have questions about this game when it comes to replay value. Multiplayer is not supposed to have story elements is it? Are levels random like diablo? Or are you just leveling over and over looking at the same cutscenes and camera angles? How long is the single player? These are things I have not been able to find about the game. This style of game I think needs that formula to make it have longevity. I guess my thing is that this game could be a purchase if it follows those lines for me. If it's fairly short and repetitive then I would say rent it.

22 - It is completely fresh and just plain fun.
The thing I like about this game is the thing that some hate it for....the melee being mapped to the right analog stick. People complain about "button mashers" to no end, and what Silicon Knights did was take a step in an innovative new direction by completely eliminating all of the button mashing here. Once you get the hang of it, it is very fluid just feels so different than everything out there.

I imagine when you really start leveling up, this game will be like crack. And the replay value will be very abundant, as if you are tired of the melee, then play as a Commando and try to play the game as more of a third person shooter. And so on and so forth with all of the other classes.

All in all, this is a completely different experience than anything out there right now, and a much needed breath of fresh air from so many games trying to one up one another by trying to do the same things. People beg for new and innovative ways to play games, and when we get one that dares to be different, all they do is hate on it go back to hyping the usual suspects like Gears of War 2. As for myself, I welcome the difference this game brings and cannot wait to get the full game next month.

This is one smart game - played the demo well over 10 times now and it gets better with each play.

As usual it will attract hate but it's rather excellent

Those expecting just an adventure slasher are the ones mostly complaining here i expect as Too Human's animation seems initially a little detached and hard hitting - play it a whole lot more than once and your opinion soon changes

Very much looking forward this
