Epic announces Gears of War trilogy of books

Epic Games, Inc. and Del Rey, an imprint of Ballantine Books at the Random House Publishing Group, announced today that Del Rey will publish three novels set in the gritty world of Gears of War video game series. The first novel, Gears of War: The Battle of Aspho Fields, written by Karen Traviss, will go on sale October 28, 2008.

In Gears of War: The Battle of Aspho Fields, the last human stronghold on Sera braces itself for another onslaught from the Locust Horde, as ghosts come back to haunt Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. For Marcus - decorated war hero, convicted traitor - the return of an old comrade threatens to dredge up an agonizing secret he's sworn to keep. As the beleaguered soldiers of the Coalition of Ordered Governments take a last stand to save humankind from extermination, the harrowing decisions made at Aspho Fields have to be relived and made again. Marcus and Dom can take anything the Locust Horde throws at them - but will their friendship survive the truth about Dom's brother Carlos?

Man! That thing has gotten pushed back like 3 times now.

I'm looking forward to it.

I'm sure it will be more than a trilogy depending on how the first ones do.

Maybe it's a bad assumption , but i highly doubt the story is worth even a single book...

I mean what are they going to do , explore the deep personality and background of that black dude swearing like a gangsta rapper in the future ?

I agree with the milking comments .

If they've got enough story for a book, why not actually flesh out the actual games story a bit, rather than milking fans with books...

Thats what I was thinking. As great a game as gow was, you could fit the entire "plot" in a single paragraph. The book will have to basically just be 99% made up on the spot, and have nothing to do with the game other than the characters and setting.

wtf are you talking about. except for that grindhouse trash, tarantino movies all have plots, some with numerous plots going on at once. Go back and watch reservoir dogs or pulp fiction and tell me they don't have plots.
