Because even with a crap camera and some dodgy background textures the combat engine in this game is still the best in its genre... that and the gore! lol

Great news. :)

It's probably equilvalent to the arena modes in Sigma or in God of War because notice how they said missions instead of chapters.

"equivalent to a whole new campaign mode", I'm guessing its chapters, but you might be right.

Anyways, AWESOME news, 800p for 25 missions, no problemo! 25, lol.

MS haters, NGII is not made by Microsoft. So perhaps you should direct your jealousy at the developer.

I have not bought NG2 yet but this makes me want to pick it up when I get SCIV Vader version. This is redemption for charging for extra costumes. The way I see it.

2.1 - this practice
does anybody else out there seeing this as a cheap attempt to suck more money from gamers? this will need you to pay, right?

good, release a supposedly 'complete' game first and then release additional missions or whatever they are called to the story later on as DLC and charge for it AGAIN!! you pay $60 for a short game and need to pay for the extra, which we think should be included with the game in the first place! I really hate this kind of practice!

I'm not bashing 360 because if the games on PS3 are doing the same, I'll be mad! I don't care if it's for extra maps for MP or extra costume, but adding to the story with payed DLC is simply an irresponsible action! this allows devs to release shorter games at full price and then release the extra chapter or missions as DLC at a charge! this is a loss for gamers and we should not allow this kind of practice to be taken as NORMAL!! it's obviously a RIP-OFF!!

I supose if it ever hits the bargain bin, it might be worth a purchase. Then perhaps I might get more interested int he DLC but at the moment, I am not the biggest of NG fans.

3.2 - I'm a casual fan of Ninja Gaiden
I like Sigma on the PS3 a whole lot (still working my way through that one), and I've played all the way through NG2, with the occasional boss or two my buddy decided to beat on his own. The combat is a lot of fun, so as long as the "missions" are more than just a room full of respawning enemies, it could be worth some cash. I mean, come on, did you really care what was happening with the "story" in NG2 as you ran around hacking off limbs? No, me neither.

I did see someone suggested these could be levels left off of the original release for one reason or another. That would be cool, except I found some chapters (uh, jungle anyone??) in NG2 to be kind of crappy, both graphically and gameplay wise. If these are the leftovers, I would be quite skeptical of the quality.

I agree with you 3.2...it sounds like NG2: Disc 2...har har har...

I fit into your category though I would imagine...I borrowed Sigma from a friend who purchased it last summer...great game...had played through most of Black on the original Xbox, so it wasn't really worth a purchase to me...but its a great way to burn through a mindless 20 minutes here and there....

doesn't sound bad though...how much is 800 points or whatever?...like 10 bucks?...good news for any fan of the series most likely...

4 - "equivalent to a whole new campaign mode".
They will probally sell it for the price of a whole new campain mode.

They should save the level designs, storyline etc for the next game, fix the glitches, make an improvement, etc.

5 - if this is true, then great!
this is what dlc should be. too many multi-player "map packs" used for dlc. i think this kind of dlc is much more compelling.

6 - I wonder who made these
Itagaki quit right after the game was released. If he made these missions they were done during production and should have been included with the game unless the DVD couldn't hold them. If there is going to be any charge for these missions and they were done during production that is wrong.

6.1 - DLC is a business model.
It helps devs to make money which is one of the reasons they like to make games on the Xbox 360. Believe it or not, not all games generate a profit. I don't mind if devs create DLC while making the game. What is wrong is when it is included on the disc and you pay to unlock it.

PWND by NG2!

@solidsnakus: Ratetsu or Genshin? Don't matter, go to leaderboards and see if you can find anyone beating them on ninja cinema and then attempt to do the same. You'll see that the difference between winning and losing on mentor and master ninja is almost always due to small details and playing more defensively, you can't bum-rush everyone!

Yeah, every boss has certain openings. All you have to do is defend until you see them. They're obvious if you watch another person fight the boss.

holy crap, you guys can crap on this all you want, but what I wouldnt expect anything less from you haters.

Anyway this news is absolutly fantastic, if its what they say and we get something close to size of the ng2 campaign for 800 points which arcade games go for then im all for it.

This will be a first, the first game to get a whole games worth as a dlc. Thats if the claim is true that its as big as the campaign in ng2 .

The game is very frustrating indeed. If you find yourself overwhelmed with frustration, take an hour, a day, or even a week off the game. I took a few days off the game before I even beat it, and when I came back, I breezed through it. You'll find the game is a lot harder when you're angry and playing recklessly because of it.

Be patient and watch for openings for your attacks. I chose to only attack his legs after he charges you against the wall. Once he would rush, he would usually be open for a couple combos with the Scythe. You can attack when he comes up to the edge but I would usually just avoid fighting there because his grab attack is too brutal and not worth the risk.

12.2 - just use the
scythe. and do the attack where you spin vertically in the air with it three times. I just beat it on mentor saturday....now getting my @$$ kicked on stage 1 in master mode.

As for the last boss, when his health gets low and he's clinging to the cliff....walk up to him and OBLITERATE that @$$. You will be treated to a beautiful sequence...especially if you are using the scythe. reminiscent of God of war.

Works on the water dragon boss too if his health is low. Press Y near him (or during a flying swallow) and Ryu runs the blade up the length of his neck like he's peeling a banana.

Anyway, I agree with Death. I have no problem paying for the extra missions, but paying extra for the costumes on live is just a big rip-off. I'm not paying you for palette swaps when the reward for beating the game on MENTOR (read: VERY HARD) is the "black jaguar" costume which puts Ryu's sexuality into question and belongs in a victoria secret catalog.

regardless of wether ms or tecmo should have included this in the game I am happy they did, if all you want to do is find faults in things its easy for both systems and for many games, the milking thats going on is sickening.

But all that aside at least the game itself was great, tough and was long enough, and now for 800 points we get 25 extra missions and thats a hell of a lot of content of replay value. So just knowing that there is at least 2 more weeks of sitting back trying to beat these new levels is excitement enough.

ALSO, at least its only 1 month or so after its release and they immediatly have these 25 new levels for us to download, yeah it should have been included since obviously they where ready enough but anyway at least they didnt sit back and give usthese levels 3 months later. I do appreciate that

I suspect the reason was that the game was pushed out the door and they didn't have time. Maybe the levels weren't that good and Itagaki discarded them. With Itagaki out of the way, Tecmo is just trying to milk it.

@scthor: I highly doubt the size of the disc has anything to do with it not included on disc. Do you even investigate the storage size for NG2?

15 - Waiting for the PS3 port...
It will probably include it all on Blu-Ray.

Not trying to offend anyone here, but I think it will happen.

Now that Itagaki has left Tecmo they are free to do this. And they are probably interested in going multi platform to maximize profits from the NG series.

AT this point does it really matter, both that it might come to ps3 and if your doing it on purpose, either way at this point in time who cares.

After this E3 its clear ps3 is doing well, sony is getting on track, the exclusives look great and it has great games we are all waiting for coming, home is also close.

MS rocked us with a new dash, avatars, netflix, ff13 and showed us games. BUT most importantly they sealed themselves in this race. They have games coming and no one can lie to me and say otherwise, they clearly can change the 360 at anytime and they have a direction, the multiplat games are coming and I know the 360 is secure for years to come.

I own both consoles and manay here do as well, so i welcome games from both systems to go multi at some point and i will try to play them becuase like you said the game will include more and probably bethe defenit version of the game.

theres no reason for any of us to get mad if a 360 game appears on ps3 or vice versa becuase the fact is soon enough the number of exclusives that matter will shrink and go multi or be times eclusives, the net gen systems will only make developing more expensive and there will be no other choice. at some point i bet the devs wished there was only one system and nintendo console next to the one system so 2 systems in total targeting 2 types of gamers.

15.2 - I welcome multi platform games...
Not everyone can afford multiple consoles. I have barely time to play the games I have on my PS3.

So I would welcome a port down the line, as I really enjoyed NG Sigma.

So ether way, I too think games going multi platform is great. Both for us gamers and the publishers...

The problem is the game is published by MS, just like Gears of War. The likelihood of this game coming to the PS3 is between nothing and nil. MS is heavily backing this game and judging by the sales it did rather well 300k+ while a big game like MGS4 only did 700k+ in comparison. MGS4 was hugely anticipated.

I'm all for multiplatform games, because frequently I find certain games play better on certain consoles. For instance, I hated NG Sigma on the PS3 due to the analog stick and went back and played the original Xbox version. However, I can't stand the d-pad on the 360 and got Super Puzzle Fighter for PS3.

I played NG:B on original Xbox and Sigma on PS3. To me, the controllers didn't make any difference. Sigma had the advantage of added gameplay, but the cutscenes didn't port well from SD to HD.

I really hope NG2 comes for PS3. Sometimes when they port games later they fix things that people complain about in original versions. With Itagaki gone - expect Tecmo to milk this game for all it's worth.

15.5 - In a multiplat world...who would win??
If both consoles are capable of running the same games, what would make you choose one or another?

I'll pick the one cheaper, more reliable, with good support...

My choice: PS3
