Sony's Playstation 3 is back on track

TheStreet reports on their industry view of Sony and other industry players in this article about Sony's strategy and the results shown in the latest NPD numbers:

"Sony's latest PlayStation 3 console has stretched its lead over rival Microsoft's Xbox 360 last month, though it still lags behind Nintendo's Wii system, according to industry research firm The NPD Group.

Sony sold 405,500 PS3s, compared to 219,800 Xbox 360s but still has a long way to go before it catches up with the Wii, which sold 666,700 systems last month."

"Sony stumbled when it launched the expensive PS3 console a year-and-a-half ago and trailed its competitors for months. That's in contrast to its position as the clear market leader with the older PlayStation 2 console."

seen by everyone was under specific Non-Disclosure Agreements...

and I wouldn't be surprised if someone was keeping track of where everyone stood so if a video did somehow get leaked, the angle of the screen would tell them who leaked it.

I don't really see Sony catching up in this gen for a WHILE. Especially since plans for the 80GB replacing the 40 with YET AGAIN no BC, which I still say is ridiculous considering that The PS2 still has at least 2 years of life left in it. Ah well, still glad I shelled out the $600 for my 60GB (now 320GB). Around here especially, old school 60 and 20's are still going for $600+ just because of the BC.

When 2011-2013 come around, Sony better fix the whole multi-SKU issue, because the wounds from it are just now starting to heal.

sony wants people to pay more attention to the ps3 and they are doing it with more memory for the video store thats why they have taken out the BC. im sure this holidays bundle or bundles will have BC. the MGS4 bundle will be around till sept. and thats when the 80gig no BC comes out. and it will be out for three months until they bring out another bundle with BC i guessing. if not, o well. and when people start talking about HOME, it will be another pandemic like MySpace, watch. i see sony catching up this gen soon, but not that soon.

7 - Unfair comparing a last gen console aka wii with next gen consoles

wii is cheaper ($249.99) and no dvd playback.
xbox (next gen DVD player,had year head start and $50 cheaper $349.99)
PS3 (next gen BLU-Ray & DVD player)price at $499.99 80 gig/$399.99 40 gig)

for a high price and a BLU-Ray player the PS3 is doing great.true battle is between Xbox 360 and the PS3 which are both next gen console's.

7.1 - 'NextGen' Here? NextGen There? NextGen NextGen Everywhere?

While you and I may love the advanced, HD or hardcore gaming experiences from our 360's or PS3's the larger market clearly prefers a cheaper, less capable console.

From the consistent NPD numbers, who can deny that console is one you can generally pick up and immediately play with little learning curve and more casual games. The graphics to me look mid to 3/4-cycle PS2, the controller is innovative and intuitive enough and the games themselves vary from wildly fun to kissing your $40 goodbye.

So far, the market has spoken...this is all the NextGen the majority of consumers want. Less, not more.

I personally don't agree with this and couldn't imagine not having the games and features both the PS3 & 360 are known for.
This gen however, the majority of gamers wallets disagree with us both...The Wii's all the NextGen most people want or need right now.

I realize that's not the right answer for you, and it's not the answer I'd like to hear either but how else can the vast, continuing sales be explained?

So far the Wii's 'NextGen' is all most people seem to want.
It's it at #1.

You pretty much read my mind. I mean MGS4 was the biggest exclusive release on the PS3 and it still trailed by 200k!? 90% of WII owners I know own only two or three games (wii play, mario kart, and super smash bros). But then you have people coming in knowing that their "preffered" system can't touch it in sales doing their best so they call it a "last gen" system. Get over it, your fighting hard for second place no matter how you look at it. As long as I'm not getting Wii games on my 360 or PS3 I'm happy...

I'm not sure where to ask for your help, but this is the first article since E3 I've felt was informative about not just Sony but the industry and unbiased enough to submit here.
(I submitted another one about the 360 making a profit but that had already been submitted by Cocozero so I added the source's extra detail to their story)

I also created the triple-arrow target graphic for this submission & story.

If anyone would not mind sending me feedback:
Please Private Message me with it.
I don't want to artificially influence the articles level of interested but I would really like any suggestions, pro or con on how to improve future submissions.

It's my intention to post fair, unbiased news and articles but if I ever do turn into an accidental FanBrat...please remind me I'm not.

Stop acting like Final Fantasy XIII isn't coming out on playstation. I mean I could understand if Microsoft had gained some kind of exclusivity for FF XIII, or if the game was due out this year or even next year. But to act like FF XIII going multi platform is the death knoll for Sony when the Square hasn't even shown gameplay footage is ignorant.

So far, 2008 has been the year of the playstation, and with their upcoming line up and blu rays first christmas as the dominant format I see nothing but "big things" in Sony's future.

Sometimes, I have to wonder what country some of you guys are posting from. If you guys who are pro sony are from Europe than yes, Sony has delivered for you guys countless times (I Guess), and Japan has seen some real good Sony love witht he cheapest PS3 out at any given time. But the history of Sony is not that great in the states.

I can give you a good history lesson, but the SOny root-key, Beta-Max, faulty ps1 class-action law-suit, PS2 abandoning FFXI on-line by making the PS2 slim, Shoddy Sony Vaio's hardware, and I can go on. So no Sony doesn't always deliver.

(Edit) Don't get me wrong, M$ also hasn't always delivered, I hate the resource hog called Vista, and that is about it, if anyone complains about their business habits, they need to do a history lesson and look at most major companies, or is all M$ fault that one company buys out their rival when they see a weakness, grow up people.

Why?

Because there's actual difficulty levels between them:
Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

Also, gamers can level up through them. Which is really cool.

Beside's an RPG levling system based on four different types of trophy's you earn,ranging from differnt difficulties.

Beats virtual numbers on a gamercard anyday.

And how is PSN video store watered down? you can download movies on SD or HD.as far as i know you cant do that on 360,and blu-ray is the highest deffinition for visual entertainment you can get,with crisp and clear audio.

And MGO online is fantastic,one of the best online game's i've played.

BTW expect the PS3 to overtake the 360 next year, the game is closing more and more. Aaron Greenburg said it himself that the Gap between the 2 consoles are at 5 million lololololololol so much for that 1 year lead.

i honestly hate trophies and achievements.Just something out there to make you feel good about yourself.
Now you have home which displays it and you can have other people over to your home to see it all.
