Can't sony come up with anything original? All they do is copy Microsoft. Sorry had to do it. Why did everyone have a fit that Microsoft copies yet now no one seems to care when Sony does a direct clone?

whats the big deal? it's not like if the movies are free, netflix on live will be a better deal and no download required, on live you can stream them.

Answer to Netflix? Hardly. PSN has a leg up with being able to purchase and DL to the PSP, but Xbox has had movie rentals and tv shows for ages now. For people who enjoy handhelds this is cool info, but basing this soley on the PS3 and Xbox: advantage Xbox.

Indeed, lotsa questions. We don't know length of rental, what you can do with your purchase/rental besides transfer it to the psp (watching on pc, transferring to other mp3/movie players, burning it), or quality levels besides sd.

I'm a huge itunes/ipod fan and I've never rented a movie. Way too expensive. Even blockbuster with their gouging is cheaper than this if it's not a week rental period.

Plus we have no idea of the selection available, just that a lot of studios are signed up. So far I'm unimpressed. I certainly won't be renting at those prices.

Better than the current Netflix streaming line-up, maybe. Though we really don't know anything about the amount of movies available, so even that's questionable.

But the pricing is mediocre. Same as Apple and Amazon for the most part.

"are you serious
netflix-10,000 movies"

And the Wii has a larger lineup than both other consoles. What's your point?

Quantity /= Quality

For the record, I love Netflix. But for most people on this site, who watch a lot of action/horror/scifi and blockbuster movies, I'm not sure if Netflix has the better selection. For me, they definitely do. But I don't use the streaming yet.

Edit: Check out their new streaming releases if you disagree. This is the first ones listed/featured in New Releases:

6 - How much is it?
Even if it is a bit too expensive we're simply paying for the convenience. This way it's available at the click of a button, and tonight! Prices may even come down once the excitement dies down a bit, but only time will tell.

Plus this just shows Sony cares about the PS3 owners and is providing one more service to us on a free network. Thanks

Depends on there prices whether i will use it. I use the xboxlive one quite a bit so it will be down to who is cheapest for me.
Other studios are already on live, take a look, just about all of them. Netflix is just an added extra.

Veryangryxbot... xbox live ones are the same except the purchase bit.

Wait..wait.. Movie streaming and DL is not possible now right cause of bandwidth? Wasn't that what PS3 fans said about the XBL movie service? Let me guess.. ALL ps3 fans now have fios or something. Oh... and this is part of the "innovative" part that Sony does right?

The fact that you can put the movies/shows on my PSP puts this a little ahead of micro's netfix. But this is all IMO.

17 - This is definitely a bit better than what Microsoft is offering.
Having content in both SD and HD is great, but being able to purchase the content (as well as rent) is amazing. I have a 500GB drive, so hopefully we can move our content onto externals; I'll try it out tonight. The studio support is huge too (same as XBL).

It's the PSP transfer tech that has me sold though.

20 - DAMN YOU SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!
why are you doing the same damn thing as MS when it comes to "renting" a movie. 14 days to watch but once you start you got 24hrs to watch it. You would think they would take on a different approach such as being able to watch the rented movie 2-3 times (and not 2-3 times within that 24hr period). I have been complaining about MS rental practice and Sony's isnt any better when it comes to the time frame of things.

I do like the fact you could buy the movie and even send a copy to the PSP. Still those two things arent enough to sway my original feeling toward their rental system. Bad move Sony. You need to offer up reduced fees for those who want to watch the [already downloaded movie] a couple days after they have already watched it. Just a thought.
