Microsoft demonstrating the "micromote" in the E3 conference would make it a pretty lackluser conference. 360 fans are clamoring for the next AAA game.

If the build quality of this thing is anything like the 360 then the Wii has absolutely nothing to worry about.

3.1 - actually
Ninty has nothing to be worried about from the very beginning! Wiimote killer? what a joke! it will just be another accessory for 360 but you'll never see soccer moms or granpas or grandmas suddenly throwing their Wii away and rush for the 360 instead! that will NEVER happen! this newton thing is arriving too little too late to even make a decent impact let alone kill the Wii.

Hope it is going to be good, but they are going to need to keep up support for it, think of the video cameras for both the 360 and ps3 they are not really being used fully imo, that's one good thing about nintendo atm when they release things for the wii they really support it.

7 - You know what? I'll say it...
Big boy consoles don't need to immitate the "casual" competition.
If you want a geriatric friendly toy, buy a Wii.
Let the rest of us play the way we like to play.

That remote is a really original idea by Microsoft, I wonder who thought of making a remote like that.

Well, it would fit in with their plans to reach out to the casual market.
I hope they don't do it at the expense of the hard core fan though. MS have few first party developers. and I'd personally rather see them making games tragetted at us core gamers than trying to steal users from the WiFit and Brain Training brigade.
I also worry thats its a stratagey that simply won't work.

They are obviously struggling to understand why the wii is so popular - it's not the price, the 360 is cheaper, it's certainly not down to quality of games so it must be that they need to make a copy of (and slightly improve upon) the wii controller. And who knows? It'll probably be better. Doesn't mean it'll be any less niche than a PSEye.

this is a waste of money and time. who here really would buy a newton, for banjo? halo4? fable 2? the biggest gripe i have with a wii mote is its poor aiming, i hate it for shooting games or target games.

why does microsoft or sony need a "wii-mote" like accessory. stop fooling around with gimmicks and just concentrate on making games.

1.2 - i would have to say...
that they (microsoft and sony) are coming out with their 'wii-mote' like controller because of the surprising interest that the casual market has become. Why wouldn't they attempt to make their console more appealing to a wider audience. I understand that n4g is more or less a 'gamer' site, but we have to accept a change in a portion of the gaming medium. that doesn't mean that microsoft nor sony will discontinue their march for better graphics or media diversity. it means that they are evolving to the environment of todays gaming needs, which includes these interactive controllers.
