Assassin's Creed 2 Faces Uncertain Future

Fans of the Assassin's Creed franchise need to start flooding the forums and emailing their votes through to get a sequal according to Ubisoft.

In a recent piece by Forbes, Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America, explains that the publisher won't release Assassin's Creed 2 until there is "more anticipation for it."

That's what I was thinking. Assassin's Creed went on to sell over 6 million copies, even if half of the buyers are willing to buy part 2, it will still be a major success.

1.2 - only problem is
the fact that it is more than likely that half of the buyers realized that the game was short and extremely repetitive. honestly, i loved the game, but was glad that i only spent the money to rent it on campus for a dollar a day. dont get me wrong, when the second comes out i will be playing it, but i wont be buying it. still, assassins creed 2 would be a huge success. for now, mgs4 with altair costume is all ive been doing (adding bandana and rail gun of course).

1.3 - It sold millions, but it didn't deserve it.
It was a bad game with a bad story, but it had great graphics. My guess is that the percentage of people that finished the game is very low. (I beat it, but only for achievement points.)

Clearly you didn't finish it. The story was one of the redeeming factors, it was superb.

And the free-runnign was great too. So stop moaning, it was the first next-gen game if you ask me. Becuase that would have been impossible on the PS2.

But imagine, how else are they gonna implement the gameplay in the sequel when guns and other futuristic stuff are in play? Since the guy (i forgot his name) needs to deal with what's happening in the real world. I don't think there is any more reason to use the Animus (sp?) and go back to Altaire's past life.

He deals with that, what they're looking for is a clue to something else, so they send him to another ancestor who happens to be, say, a Ninja or something.

The visuals warrants some attention but from what I hear people got bored with the game it wasn't much it totally sucked or anything.

Lasting gameplay was just not there...

Assassin's Creed was one of the best looking games I've ever played. They just need to improve the gameplay and put in more variety and AC2 could be an awesome game.

7 - Are They Brain-Dead?
I can't believe they'd have the nerve to even think of such a thing.

1) They bent us over and screwed us bad with Assassin's Creed 1. Built up monumental hype before the release, got sh!tloads of ppl to buy it, and then gave us a game with dull gameplay and an ending that has NO PAYOFF WHATSOEVER. Not to mention all the questions it intentionally raises.

2) After an ending like that, you'd think a sequel would be obligatory. But what's this? We need to anticipate it more? Sounds like they're doing the exact same thing as last time: build up the hype, make the game APPEAR good, bend them over with more empty gameplay.

Well we're not falling for it, Ubisoft! Screw finishing the story, I let it go a long, long time ago.

Sure does, doesn't it? :P

I for one am almost certain Killzone 2 is gonna be bad. Speaking as a PS3 owner, i'm quite worried that all the focus is on graphics and presentation. The game is due out in a year, and they haven't spoken a single word about the actual gameplay. Looks like they haven't learned a bit from Killzone 1.

Really? And I should anticipate it why, exactly? You do realize YOU have to make me want it.
Is there a specific date you had in mind on which I should suddenly start my antici........pation?
I'll add it to iCal, so I don't forget.

I'll agree to an Assassin's Creed 2 only if they agree to toss out their crappy gameplay and start from scratch. One button combat? are you freakin kidding me? insta-kill counters? I slaughtered their entire army in an alley way once.

God forbid we don't get another sequel! I think Assassin's Creed was a great game but what always excites me the most is a new IP. Unless of course it's a Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, God Of War, Final fantasy, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Devil May Cry, Prince Of Persia or Jak game. But that's it! Unless Team Ico wants to do a sequel to SOTC of course. Or a new Guitar Hero or Rock Band. No more Sequels!

Doesn't it work the other way around? You convince me to buy it, I don't have to convince you to build it.

Creed 2 could be a good game. They actually did alot of things right. If they just take to heart the things they screwed up on and fix them, it would be good.

AC had a lot of potential. However, they did not tap into that potential. The gameplay is definitely innovative, but needs much improvement.

I think it's because they had promised that the face buttons would allow you to control a different limb.

This would allow you to climb and grab ledges and fight and choose to either leap over a wall or use your hands to vault over it.

Somewhere along the line, they dropped this control scheme in favour of the final one in the game and I don't think they went through and fixed everything to account for it. The combat was reduced to one button, rather than the four it should have been, for example.

The is one of the most asinine moves I've seen. They obviously know it didn't get the reviews they were expecting, and sold well because of hype, and now they're going to keep it safe after selling over 6 million copies, and leaving the biggest cliff hanger since Halo 2? What kinda bs is that? The game had some issues, but I found enough of what it did do right refreshing enough to really enjoy it. It still has huge potential, and if they fix the combat, and the repetitiveness of the first game then they may really have something this time. Just do it, but do it right.

Why not worry about fixing the bugs and make the game more fun, maybe make it so there won't be anymore pop-ups, instead of worrying about anticipation for the game.

I won't even consider buying any Ubisoft games anymore after paying full price for AC and getting a buggy game. Amazing graphics alone drove the sales last time... but even that turned into a let down with all the pop-up graphics everywhere.

Assassin's Creed sold pretty well so I don't see why there wont be a sequel. I guess Ubisoft must want Assassin's Creed 2 to be on par with MGS4 or GTA4 in terms of anticipation I guess.

I know that Kojima said that he really enjoyed Assassin's Creed. If Kojima was involved with Assassin's Creed 2 just a little bit, I think that people would instantly be anticipating it. Ubisoft collaborated with Kojima with MGS4 (the MGS4 April Fools video) and there was a Altair alternate unlockable costume in MGS4, so I don't see why Kojima wouldn't implement something in reference to MGS4 in another installment of Assassins Creed.... maybe Snake could be an alternate unlockable character in the game, or maybe there could be an unlockable Octocamo costume in the game???

In my opinion, if a game sells over a million then it deserves a sequel automatically. Even tough game development has gone up, most games aren't really big budget games, so if a game sells over a million, it has already made a pretty nice profit. With games selling at $59.99 each, if a developer sells JUST 1 million copies, that equals to 59 million dollars and that's a lot of dough.

23 - Marketing Hype
Got to hand it to these guys. We all expecting a sequal and know it will happen. The only way they can get attention drawn to this game is to say that they might not release it. Imagine Rockstar saying that they might not release GTA5. Personally I think it is a good marketing ploy buy Ubisoft.

The article has been took out of context, They are doing Assassins Creed 2 but not yet, the article I read was basically they wanted gamers to really want the game, so by leaving it a year or so would hype all the gamers up for the sequal, its called marketing.

From what I can tell the original game was rather me mediocre and was just overly hyped. I think Jade Raymond gave it extra publicity by her looks and when all said and done the gameplay was just not repetitive, it was extremely repetitive.

I was highly dissappointed by this game and glad I didn't spend a dime on it. I like some of Ubi's game, but this did not meet up to the hype and sold suprisingly well.

27 - I bought it and traded it in a week later...
So I doubt I would be really interested in a sequel since I never finished the first one.

I found the game play to be repetitive and shallow. Also the amount of cut scenes and their length threw me off the game.

Unlike MGS4 where the cut scenes are interesting, the cut scenes in AC annoyed the hell out off me...

28 - Assassin's Creed was/is awesome
Ubisoft should definitely bring out the sequel. They've already said the have the next two stories for the game written. I on the other hand liked the free running and thought it made the game less repetitive when doing the same things in different ways. This game definitely has potential and maybe people who didn't play the game were looking forward to the sequel so that they would not miss a great stealth game. I've never played a MGS game because it never appealed to me(Did not like gun games so much). I am thinking of getting MGS4 only because it reminds me of Assassin's Creed with the stealth. Yeah I know MGS4 looks awesome alone, but since I've never played the MGS games I liked the game play(stealth) of Assassin's Creed as much as others like MGS's stealth. What I'm trying to say is that Assassin's Creed was a game a really enjoyed and I think the sequel would definitely attract many fans including Metal Gear fans.

I was glad i rented AC first instead of buying it. With that said the game isn't that bad in fact the concept is brilliant but with some improvements the game would be a great buy. Focus more on stealth elements, instant kills that require skills( You are playing an Assassin after all), and get rid of every kill being the same thing and you could have a much better game.

30 - Wow Ubi your pretention is showing
...might wanna slip that back in 8P

The game sold millions as a new IP. The game was beautiful to behold. The free running was incredibly fun and the combat system had its moments glory...

BUT with that said they have some hurdles in their quest for antici....pation.

IMHO even though the story was an interesting/intriguing concept, the way they made each stage of the journey exactly the same as the last was a criticism that needs to be heeded. The redundancy of the missions (yes I did them all) needs to be addressed before the sequel will be anticipated greatly.
