1.1 - I have to agree with you... even in previous mgs the beginning was long, and everyone loved the game...
people always refer to the halo jump in mgs3 as the most epic cinematic in a video game..

Let me tell you, if i didn't mind watching the cinematic before in ps2 graphics.. now that this game looks so freaking amazing, i would care even less.... every sentence and cinematic was well thought and nailed perfectly...

All this dirt is obviously from people who simply don't like the ps3, it's funny how they think that great cinematics are a bad thing.. it would be like laughing that a Ferrari has way too much horsepower

Well this is my first MGS game and right now I'm just getting used to the controls. One thing for sure though. I really like this game!

I like the cut scenes too. I just love a game with a great story to tell.

Yeah it was great. Alot of Cutscenes at the begining was neccessary to get the Stoy Line going. Don't for this is the begining of the game and the Intro was pretty long but really awesome. This game may be the best game and movie I have ever seen. Im about 10 Hours into the game now. If you have a PS3 youu must Play this game. If you don't then why did you buy a PS3? This game takes advantage of everything that the PS3 has to offer up to now so you need to check it out.

For those reporting lame. I timed this on tonights first session with the game. The figures arn't made up and just because it has a lot of cut scenes doesn't mean it's a bad game in the slightest.

3.1 - Only certain scenes can be skiped
not the whole thing just like in MGS2. If I could I'd of skipped 75% of the clips.

yeah you can skip some of them but it wouldn't be a good idea. It would riun the experiance for me but like you said, if you are that impation feel sree. I can see skipping the cutscenes after you have already beat the game but only after. This game also give you very good reason to play it more than once due to it keeping stats of all of your money. Some of the weapons cost so much that you will not be able to purchase on the first play through. Also you can play the game totally different on the second time around and take different path ect. This is a very big game.

its pretty funny the conspiration against the PS3. Trying to find flaws in a perfect game... pathetic.

It's also pathetic people calling a game "perfect" when there is no such thing.

Best game (as a whole package) that this gen has to offer till today period...

no game is "perfect", but this is the closest to perfect that any video game has ever been...

Graphics: this game is the best looking game this gen so far
Story: Not even some RPG games out there have a more captivating and complete storyline
Sound: Rivals any movie out there

The beginning of most MGS games are a lot of cut scenes. It introduces the characters and gets the story moving. Its still a hell of a lot of fun.

The author of the article must be a Xbox 360 Fanbaby. It is obvious that the he is nit picking.

8.1 - It's not nit picking, this is fact. It's all filler video in place of gaming,
nor did he say it was good or bad, he is an obvious sony fan since he's playing it and was just stating a fact.

Stop being so defensive since you yourself don't even like all the video BS and are just trying to make excuses for your supposed end all to be all title.

I think it's still a very good game deserving of an easy 8.7 or so but not even close to perfect. It would actually score better w/o the damned filler video.

I think resistance 2 will be sony's best title, better than Grayzone 2 and MGS4.

9 - I must be a crappy mgs player...
Coz aside from cut scenes. It took me 14 hours to finish act 2. Why? ITs a damn sneaking game. If they made teh levels any bigger I'd be freaken spent. I want perfection! I hate being spotted. Theres points where I'd creep slowly just so I dont get spoted!

THOSE CUT SCENES are a GODSEND. It gives me a chance to relax and just watch.

10 - I've played metal gear I, II metal Gear soild one two
And in no way were there this many long cut scenes. I own the game, and the cut scenes are taking away from the time I want to spend to see the evolution of game play in MGS,I already know this generation can produce cut scenes that are out of this world, It seemed like every new area I went into had a long dragged out story The Graphics are pretty. But the balance of cut scenes and actual play are turning me off, and I'm a fan of MGS

It took me about 4 1/2 hours of play time to get through the first act. With the cutscenes, it was about 5 1/2 hours total.

I could definitely see where the cutscene length would outweigh play time but only if you just ran through the sections trying to get the check points. But half the fun is just trying to see everything and cause a little havoc between the PMCs and rebels.

For me, I was just wandering around seeing where I could go and collecting weapons to build up my DP so I can get good weapons and the stealth camo.

11.1 - I agree causing havoc is the thing
I just feel that MGS4 hasn't evolved into that great perfect game that everyone raves about, and I really tired to force my self to think it was, Really I did, but there are a few things that were over done thats blocking my perfect fun factor. Is it really that necessary to get into greater detail about Sneaks Nano's once a concrete understanding has been set, even after 8 minutes of explanation? I could careless what a mutated cell in snakes body looks like and further break down of how the nanos work in a continued cut scene. Even the Weapons dude turns into Barbra Walters( Long winded Journalist from 20/20)

At times the controls feel sluggish as specially when you are near a wall or trying to run and hide. Even the Bosses which I haven't fought one yet,are reused and if Sunny cooks me two more sunny side burnt eggs, singing numbers telling me I can't smoke on the plane I'm gonna shot her.

The game is good, but I wish it was more balanced story VS. game play like the older MGS's.

Yea.. i'll agree w/ joy on this one. I love the mgs series, unlike some of the haters here i've played every game in the series, and mgs3 ranks as a top 5 all time game for me, and i'll be picking up mgs4 tomorow to play over the weekend.. but seriously, some of the ps3 only owners are way too sensitive about any little criticism on this game. mgs appeals to a certain type of gamer only, and those outside the fanbase will have their critiques (long cut scenes, stealth, weird kojima humor etc). While fans like us love that stuff, the non-fans of the series just won't get it, and will focus on their percieved negatives and look to denigrate the game. You just have to accept the difference in opinion and enjoy the game for the masterpeice that us mgs fans feel it is. Who cares what the critics say, we know its a great game and a great series, so just relax.

12.3 - You are right
You are dead on with the Bio shock comments. MGS4 is a great game, there are just somethings that were over used that makes MGS seem more like a movie then a game.

13 - To flesh out a great story...
You need to spend some time watching the cut sceenes. And there is not other game that fleshes out the story like MGS. It is bar none the best game for true story telling and is a wonderful experience.
