Ninja Gaiden 2 Impressions (PlatformNation.com)

One of the first reviews for the game. Here is what PlatformNation.com had to say:

"How should I sum up Ninja Gaiden 2? I guess the easiest way to sum it up is to tell you about it. Here is a little description of the game that is taken directly from Xbox.com:

'Ninja Gaiden II makes its long-awaited debut on Xbox 360 as the blockbuster action-packed sequel to Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden II features a new and improved game engine, developed from the ground up exclusively for Microsoft and Xbox 360 by Team Ninja and legendary game developer Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of the famed Dead or Alive franchise.

Guide Ryu Hayabusa on a mission to avenge his clan and prevent the destruction of the human race. Armed with an assortment of ninja weaponry, help Ryu to skillfully maneuver through a world fraught with peril and danger. Ninja Gaiden II features an all-new gameplay engine, new auto-health regeneration system, levels, adventures, enemies, and thrilling combat with an extensive assortment of ninja weaponry, representing a true evolution of the highly popular franchise.'

Now why did I just tell you what they said? Well, that's because I feel that it isn't worth my time and effort to come up with something new. Kind of what Team Ninja did when they released Ninja Gaiden 2. Now, I'm not doing a full review of this games because the game just got old and, like I said before, this isn't anything really new. I've been there, done that and, for that reason, this game was a major turn off for me. Let me go ahead and get right into the scores."

Wow, I'm not approving this junk. Subjectivity is a bias, you rate the game on the fun factor, the polish the over all immersion, not your basic opinion of it. Objectivity is the goal and this surely lacks it.

You failed to be neutral for that I give your review of the review a C-.

Proof read your review as well.

what do you think a review is? is an opinion of the game. I have spent some time on the game, more then what I really wanted because the game didn't suck me into it. It wasn't as enjoyable as the first one and it didn't give me that feeling that I wanted to keep playing to find out more and advance the story. The review talks about NG2's good points as well as bad points. To me, I would say that is being neutral.

Well "Steve" you're clearly unfit for the job. You should have passed this off to another editor if you had the choice.

Maybe you should take Journalism 101.

1.3 - Oh come on now
If he had given this game a bunch of A's, most of you would be saying how good and professional his review is.

I'm not saying all of you are like that, but damn sure MAJORITY of the people here at n4g are.

I think it was an honest opinion. That's all that a review is. It is hard to have an opinion that the hardcore disagree with, but you just wrote how you felt. That takes some courage. Don't worry about this site too much, we all have a little angst in us. I personally really liked the first and if the second is just an upgraded NG I will be happy.

*edit* Congratulations on the baby also

I keep seeing 'Review = opinion'. Incompetence is what I see when I see those words together.

@ Below

EXACTLY, professional journalism is dying, it's not what it used to be.

1.6 - But if you feel THAT way Tmac
Then just about any/every review thus far this generation should be considered incompetent.

I mean seriously, how many "professional" reviews have we seen where he/she installs their personal opinions into their review

If u didnt like it or u just do not consider "profesional enough" to this reviewer, get out of here and go check some of the "profesional journalist" reviews.
People in N4G are mature enough to decide if they consider this review as a fact for its buying or NOT...

Thanx for the review.

re: the half-assed review,

"I’m not doing a full review of this games because the game just got old and, like I said before, this isn’t anything really new. I’ve been there, done that and, for that reason, this game was a major turn off for me."

That's quite harsh.

What a joke of a man and a review, the game is a sequel which in my mind means more of the same with certain improvements on the flaws on its predecessor, when you look at dmc4 that game was not only more of the same but half a game that was mirrored to give us 8 hours of ps1 action yet it was well recieved by most reviewers. Here is why i think he wrote this review.
He turned it on, got half way through level one and was killed several times, i think it was far too challenging for him,

3.1 - You may be on to something
His overall tone about the game seemed to be frustration. I'll admit that the Ninja Gaiden games were challenging, but they were far from unbeatable. If you're continuously getting beaten, then sometimes its a good idea to just take a breather or a good bit of time off from the game and come back fresh with a clear mind. Works wonders sometimes.

I know the game isn't for everyone, but I don't think you have to be an elite gamer to finish a NG game. I know that I'm in no way an elite player. What's this guy's excuse?

Reviews ARE opinions. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool. Notice how different magazines/sites have different scales, methods of reviewing, etc. Notice how games will get different scores depending on who is reviewing said title. OPINION.

If you think review scores are fact, I pity you.

yeah journelism 101 says if you want people to believe your story don't discredit yourself as being an authority on the issue at the beginning.

"Now, I’m not doing a full review of this game " but he turns around and scores the game.

It does get old, but that's when you decide to fully review it or move on to the next game. Calling this a review is a stretch. That said, the reviews for NG2 have been pretty meh.

7 - But wait,
According to the MGS fans, people are only suppossed to review games that they like, because remember "not everyone should review MGS4." I am glad this game is the same mechanics with new bad guys and new combos and weapons.

According to Bungie and MS, games should be reviewed only after a huge duffle bag of swag is presented to the reviewer.

Round and round it goes.

I think maybe if Ninja Gaiden 2 had a more of a intruiging story and more memorable game characters that it would have been more interesting to play, but Itagaki is one of those guys that favors gameplay over storytelling, but why not make a game that has awesome gameplay with a awesome story to go along with it?

With so many games looking and playing similar to each other now-a-days, I honestly think that the story in a game can make a game or break it. When you compare Splinter Cell to Metal Gear Solid, it's obvious that MGS has more memorable characters and a deeper story line combined with very nice gamplay, but on the other hand Splinter Cell has pretty nice gameplay as well, but that storytelling element and interesting characters is missing in Splinter Cell and that's why MGS is like the king of Stealth Action because it has so many game elements wrapped up in one package.

When you have a Single Player game like Ninja Gaiden, the story should be more than average and it must be deep and intruiging because otherwise it will just be a game with good gameplay but no substance to support it.

9 - Poor "review"
This guy is obviously not a big fan of the series, but he REALLY shows this in his review. He seemed to be really frustrated with this game as well as the one's before it. I'm not surprised that he was underwhelmed by NG2.

I will say this, if anyone here can accept this dribble as an acceptable "review," than there is no need to argue against recent "8" reviews that MGS4 had. How did this get approved?

EDIT: Ha. Disagrees already. And I'm sure more are coming, all because I mentioned the almighty PS3 savior MGS4. Come on people, I know ALOT of you will uplift Sony exlcusives til you die, but a lot of you called out Eurogamer on their MGS4 review as being a horrible excuse for journalism. This review here is at least 10 times worst than that, and anyone that says differently is blind. Be a gamer and not a Sony/Microsoft slave.

11 - that was the most retarded NG2 review so far
A "B" for gameplay, a "B" for controls? I can understand the the "B"s for graphics and sound but this is just stupid.

You can tell from the very begining of the review that its biased.

why do ppl want all sequels to be completely reinvented? it wouldnt be a sequel if you did, unless the first sucked but then why would you make a 2nd? unless you reinvent it. i think what hurt this game is all the re-releases of the original especially sigma.

how do you call it more of the same? i dont have a game in my library as brutal as ng2 and those weapons?! i cant wait till i get those claws, then to master this beast of a game. ng2 is just not for everyone i guess and i understand, you do need skills for this game this is no dmc4. i love that game to but ng just takes more skills.
