Two secret Xbox360 game reveals for E3? - CVG

CVG writes:

Microsoft Game Studios recently showcased its Xbox 360 line-up for the rest of 2008, including big hitters Banjo-Kazooie, Fable 2 and Gears of War 2. But from what we've heard, there are two more planned for the end of the year...

According to well placed sources close to Microsoft, the publisher has two more "big" Xbox 360 games to be revealed for its 2008 line-up.

Where and when will these two games be revealed? According to our own Deep Throat, it'll happen at E3 in Los Angeles, probably during Microsoft's pre-event press conference on Monday, July 14.

Our source didn't specify whether the pair of games will be totally new titles, or just missing names from the 360 line-up (Halo Wars or Alan Wake would be fantastic additions to the 360 Christmas list).

One of the games could even utilise the heavily rumoured 360 motion controller, which is sounding more and more real as the year progresses.

Excellent news then, if true, considering that Microsoft's '08 roster already looks pretty solid with Fable and Gears. Either way, we'll keep our ear to the ground and keep you posted on more developments...

I think Halo Wars is a given. But Alan Wake? Shane Kim has said that they're just not ready to be shown yet but that would be a huge surprise!

As for the "Newton" well that's coming this year regardless of whether it's unvelied at E3 (most likely)... or not. Plus there's still questions over Scene It 2 and Ninja Blade which were in the press kit at Microsoft's Showcase but never showed, although I wouldn't regard them as "big".

1.3 - I think.....
It will be Perfect Dark Zero 2 and hopefully more.

I don`t think Alan Wake will show and honestly I`m not sure if it`s EVER gonna come out for the 360, I just CAN`T see them doing a open-world game that looks that good on a single DVD after seeing GTAIV. Open-world games are REQUIRED to be on a single disk(on a console), which is most likely why Project Offset(fairly sure it open-world) got cancelled for the 360 and not the PC. I think the same thing will happen to Alan wake, sadly. But w/ that said Alan Wake does look great.

I reckon mass effect 2 maybe?

They might not hav mentioned it before cos they've been struggling to get exclusivity for it...

Halo wars and alan wake were both pushed back to 2009 as far as I was aware...

There might be a new ip prehaps?

Microsoft need some good games cos their current lineup is ok but not as great as PS3's is for this year.

I'm sure the 2 "secrect" games will be nothing great. If they were anything great, or if there even are 2 secret games, they would have leaked out something by now.

9 - its interesting.....
the 360 hasnt really had alot of very good press lately, it hasnt had bad press i just havent heard anything wild about it in a while lol.

maybe msoft are taking another route by keeping things back and dropping some sort of hype bomb on everyone. i mean what better way is there to do that than to showcase two new games that absolutely nobody new about. and if theyre apparently ''big'' titles then this is gona turn out to be interesting.

i doubt it will be alan wake or halo wars, it would be nice but for some reason i can see them bringing out something that nobody even new was in development to bring up the ''holy hell!'' factor if you get me.

peace out x jc x

10.1 - I agree
Microsoft, Shane Kim in particular, have been very vocal about their past mistakes (a rarity!) with Too Human and Alan Wake being announced and shown too early, as they have of Sony with Home and Killzone (common!).

There have been a ton of rumours this year about things like Newton (it will be revealed in 08), Banjo, Netflix, Gears2, GTAIV episodic content, dashboard changes, price cuts and now this. And yet despite all the rumours and gossip they've kept quiet, leaking out info slowly.

In the past Microsoft would use any excuse to confirm rumours by showing the goods in response... they'd quite happily brag and boast. But it seems they're adopting a very different strategy these days.

I'm pretty confident to agree with your suggestion that this is all part of a new marketing strategy with a clear intent to build momentum and hype gradually towards the end of the year. I think Microsoft are very keen to steal the limelight at E3 this year, unsettle the competition, and with all that potential hype announce a price cut between E3 and Christmas.

It's an interesting, and in Microsoft's case, an unproven strategy. It will be fascinating to watch the counter responses of their competitors and watch the year play out.

I just re-read my above post and thought I should clarify that in my first sentence I was meaning that Microsoft have rarely acknowledged their mistakes in the past but have been quick to point out Sony's mistakes at every opportunity.

The change I believe is happening is MS is trying to look more responsive to consumer demand and build loyalty by admitting mistakes much earlier in recent times and promising to make up for them.

ALSO

I'd love to hear why people disagree with the idea that Microsoft is running a different marketing strategy like the one jspc and I have raised.

Thanks in advance! :) No more bubbles. :(

I believe you are wrong becuase Shane Kim was only very recently badmouthing Sony.

All the major mistakes have been made by them, they are just lucky Sony cannot afford to drop the price.

BTW I didn't agree or disagree.

11 - Alan Wake, a little info.
I spoke to a Remedy employee at Nordic Game acouple of weeks ago that said they have been having an 18 month media black-out on purpose and that they would show a new trailer+info very soon.

E3 would be the ideal place to do it.

I also saw Top Spin 3 being played on a PS3, it looked really good. Much better than Top Spin 2.

They've been ramping up production for Halo: Chronicles but I'd be very surprised if Microsoft announced that for 08. Halo 3 is still performing well and Halo: Chronicles would probably steal too much hype from Gears 2.

Halo Wars makes sense because it's a more niche console genre as in an RTS, but then it'll have to compete in the shadow of the groundbreaking EndWar which could end badly.

If the work is done, I'd put my money on Alan Wake as the most valuable to the 08 lineup as it further diversifies Microsoft's offerings this year.

Forza 3 has a good strategic chance as Microsoft might want to beat GTR5 to the sim market which is empty for this year. Plus Turn10 have been very quiet for a while now but are an in house studio. Hmmmm...

Huxley, APB and La Noire (multiplatform) might also be outside chances.

I really think at least one will be seeing at least one game related to motion controls though.

AND some people will hate me for saying it but there could be some big surprises from Square Enix and their "all new lineup for the Xbox360". See below,

Those are the two, no doubt.

This effort is just APPALING on MS's part. Sony destroyed them last year when they announced the 08 lineup, and ohmygod, just imagine this slaughter tenfold for the 2009 PS3>360 lineup!

And unless Xbox fans are going to retro-upgrade Heavenly Sword to AAA and admit that PS3>360 last year, then Ninja Gaiden 2 quality and lower (Too Human, Banjo, Fable 2) just ain't gonna cut it.
