Fan makes his own Gunmetal PS3

Why bother with Konami's ridiculously overpriced Metal Gear-themed Gunmetal PS3 when you can simply make one? That's the mentality PlayStation forum user dieselstation had when he did a very careful paint job on his PS3. If he has the 80GB model, he already has a system far superior to Konami's offering.

1 - The point of having the Gun Metal Ps3 console
Is for the sake of having a Collectors item,not for the sake of having a Ps3 with a different color(Because,if a Ps3 with a different color is all you're looking for then there are countless of websites that offer Paint services)

The gun metal ps3 is a bargain!

How is going out and getting your ps3 'powder coated' gun metal cheaper? Most people don't have access to those machines and it is not cheap to get stuff powder coated.

Also, good luck trying to powdercoat the controller gun metal. Also, he still has to go and buy the game.

It isn't correctly painted and it is missing the log 'MGS4 Guns of the Patriots' And there is the controller and additional Bluray disc to consider.

Isn't only the color. The Limited edition is actually made of a different material. That's why I want one. You can paint plastic all you want but at the end of the day it's still painted plastic.

2.2 - I have my doubts about how limited it really is
Since they won't put out a number and they aren't numbering the systems like a REAL limited edition should be. Such as 194 out of 2000 on the unit or something. Plus the unit doesn't come with anything else besides a different color and a limited edition of the game you can get at Gamestop. As limited editions go it pretty lame because there is nothing extra for big fans.

Why is it over priced? Here in the UK is cost's £20 more from Play. I don't think £20 is a lot considering how limited this really is.

The ridiculous £500 "insurance" charge from the Konami site was stupid, but refundable.

The only place your going to see them going for big bucks is on ebay the week after MGS.

Regarding the article, this is surprisingly well done, I normally don't expect much from "console mods" but this one really works. Shame he hasnt be able to coordinate the touch panel (On/Eject buttons)

Maybe it's because I'm not all that tech savvy but I don't mess with any of my consoles in a manner other than its intended purpose. Props to him for experimenting and creating something unique but we'd all be laughing at him if the title read "Fan attempts to makes his own Gunmetal PS3 and damages it beyond repair in the process".

That Limited Edition Gunmetal PS3 has the words "Metal Gear Solid 4" engraved on the system and it's not the same.

Also, that guy voided his warranty by painting/modifing his PS3 and even when his warranty runs out, Sony doesn't have to accept his PS3 for repair if it ever needs to be repaired, but like most PS3 owners, we don't have to worry about sending in our PS3's for repair, but just in case something happens, Sony might not accept it.

A lot of people these days just don't understand the value of a Limited Edition item anymore and are so cheap.
