19-year-old Gamer Elected Mayor of Oklahoma Town

Via GamePolitics: "Although we know that John Tyler Hammons is a gamer, we're not sure which console he favors.

He seems to be an expert at the political game, however. [...]The 19-year-old University of Oklahoma freshman, a political science major, was elected mayor of Muskogee, a city of 38,000. He will be sworn in to the unpaid position next week."

At 19 doing this? Wow, as time goes on he'll have such immense potential for power and influence in his country, and the world if he wished, it's not even going to be funny.

Good on ya Mayor, I envy you.

Hey, if you have a PSN ID send me an invite Major Hammons.

He doesn't have the experience either.

Wait until he gets a DUI. I'll put money on it.

5 - Hey now! lol
I live in Oklahoma City, and it isn't that bad here.
Arkansas is where cousins gets married.
He ran, he was elected, probably because he was one of two people running, and the other guy sucked.
The truth of the matter is, Muskogee is only one city in all of Oklahoma. Tulsa, OK was voted the #5 best city to live in this year.

Hard to believe that the most qualified person to be the mayor of a town is a 19 year old youth. An adult in legal form only, perhaps the lack of other candidates was due to the "unpaid" stipulation of the position. You would think there'ld be at least one community minded individual with some type of managerial experience. Course I don't have 100% of the facts, the kid coulda been doing civic leadership work since he was age 10. Still seems a bit idiotic.

8.1 - Exactly
It's a prime example of how the same people and families keep getting voted into office. All of you are acting like politicians are supposed to come from some elite group or be filthy rich. The last time i checked ANYBODY, regardless of status, age, or experience can run for public office. Sure he might not have that much experience being so young but he is who the people chose and is obviously who they think was the best out of all the candidates. That doesn't make them hillbillies, rednecks, or any other derogatory term you would like to call them.

Wow. But at times I'd wonder how much better off we'd be if all the grey-haired lunatics running the world were usurped by far-younger leaders. New ideas, fresh policies, no more Dark Ages "games are corrupting our children!" nonsense. Sounds good to me.
