PS3 vs 360: It's Europe vs USA

Despite a 16 month disadvantage, Sony have overhauled Microsoft in Europe but in the US the XBox 360 remains in front of the PS3 but the gap is decreasing.

In the United States however there are now 10 million XBox 360's in consumers hands. This compares to just under 5 million PS3's. Microsoft is hailing the 10 million barrier as proof that the XBox 360 has won the next generation console war.

But hold on one moment.

The PS3 is not only ahead and extending the lead in Europe but is outselling the XBox 360 in the United States according to data from the last few months.

1.4 - This guy forgot to check independent sources
In Europe market share is close but Microsoft is still holding about 1 million system lead over PS3. In the US, 360 lead sales in March and April 08 by a very slim margin. We may as well call it a tie factoring in statistical error. And in Japan, well seem like 360 is stuck under 10K/month for I don't know how long.

MGS is a big franchise but its only half as big as GTA

the 360 has only outsold the Ps3 by 5900 in 2months in the US according to NPD data. However if you add the sales from Jan and Feb as well the Ps3 has outsold the 360 in the US so far in 2008.

Yes that is true, however you can also turn it the other way round, and say that MS are no longer increasing there lead over the Ps3 in NA, leaving only Europe and Japan as the regions, which will decide who will come out on top overall.

I dispute the number of consoles actually in peoples homes too. Why do you think they wont say how many are broken. They are still counted as a sale to a retailer. Some will disagree with that saying they factor that in but that would mean they've actually manufactured something like 25Million. Plus what about replacement warranties where the customer simply gets a new one? I've gotten 2 new machines, so as far as M$ is concerned, 3 have been sold because of me.

Plus how many Hardcore Xboxers have you heard say they have 2 or 3 machines. I dont know why, they always claim they all work, I guess they have to have 1 in every room. The fact remains three in one house is not the same as one each in 3 houses. They aren't buying 3 of every game are they and its just inflating the real userbase.

The gap between PS3 and XB is closer than people think.

Your post is full of BS, first you are the same one spouting off BS about America, all because Americans in general haven't just brought into the whole idea that we should run out an buy ps3's just because we brought ps2's, maybe Americans are just diverse enough that we see other options to sonys brand and therefore for some Americans it has nothing to do with loyalty and everything to do with who has the type of games they like.....oh but no that would make too much sense, its much more logical to point the finger instead looking at the underlying reasons.

Actually 360 is doing well in places like UK and Australia, this whole notion that micro doesn't sell well in Europe is only true for some of the smaller markets like Spain and France these smaller markets tend to lean much more casual gaming so and although micro has diversified their lineup much more this gen, it takes time to change the perception that its just a hardcore/FPS platform, then obviously Japan has never been accepting of anything foreign when it comes to gaming.

What happen to gamers these days, most of your post is luaghable, I mean I can understand favortism but you're making up BS as without a shread of proof, only a sony loyalists would think micro is counting 1 360 sale 2, and 3 times if it had to be repaired and sent back. Thats just ridiculous, but hey I guess NPD is in on it too....taking bribes from micro instead of gathering data from retailers which is what NPD reports, blah, blah, blah the usual sony folks conspiracy drama. That alone just tells me you're looking for a reason to downplay 360 sales, ha ha and then why the hell would you question if people are buying 2 or 3 360's, if 1 household has 3 360's thats still 3 360's sold so it doesn't matter and they have no way of knowing what percentage it would be and either way it increase hardware sales and thats all the data represents. You could ask the same question about any console and it would be just as pointless since it would be impossible to get a hard figure. Stop the hate, mate.

Of course people would have doubles for PS2, it sold so many and has been going since 2000. I'm not a blind fanboy, I can see reason. And I never said most people can 2 or 3, I just think its something that should be considered, dont you, or is it no existent in your eyes?

And I dont give a damn about attach rates because even with th small bag of great games on XB, people buy alot of sh*t for it too. I personally have close to 40 games for it and to honest if I could get half my money back on them I would keep maybe 4 or 5. The rest are crap. Why did I buy them? Cos it was the only next gen machine around. Once I had played GRAW I didn't want to go back to PS2 and XB. I have since but during those honeymoon day when my head was in the clouds I wouldnt have.

And if you still dont believe xbox owners buy alot of crap, why has Marvel Alliance sold nearly 2.5 Million? More than Bioshock and Mass Effect. Why have 3 Need for Speed games sold 4 Million between then in 2 years. Why has Kane and Lynch sold a million which is more than DMC4 which you were so happy to get, more than DoA4 which I'm told is the best fighting game, and even more than PGR4 which I keep hearing has better graphics than GT5. Theres your attach rate. To many people just buying anything just like your hero yesterday who owns 3 consoles, a dozen headset, controllers, this, that and every single game.

And owning double doesn't affect the number sold, but it does affect the number of people who own them, right? Why if I bring it up am I full of hate? I'll be honest with you. i dont like my X360 as much as I should. I resent it a little bit. Probably because it broken twice. Probably because I think M$ treats us like crap. huh? so?...have you heard of Madden? some games appeal to a larger group of people, sports games and some kids games sell for a variety of reasons over some "hardcore" games, wii is definitely a good example, Bioshock is great but killing little sisters is not something most parents will buy for their kids....ha ha take one look at the ps2 library and you will see PLENTY examples of terrible games selling well, while some sleeper hits went un-noticed, not often but it happens.

The bottom line is 360 has a great attatch rate because it has alot of good games whether you think so or not is irrevelant, reviews, and sales say otherwise.

EB is not giving you anything at their expense, thats why micro has a warranty plan and the only sale that is counted is the initial sale of that serial #, every product that is under a warranty doesn't count a replacement or repaired console/product as a new sale....besides NPD tracks consoles SOLD by retailers, which involves profits made of each console and those are the same numbers that both sony and micro quote in press releases for sales info.

for me chime the music for June 3rd because thats the date I am concerned with.....Thats when I get the king of action games Ninja Gaiden 2. I don't give two craps about the overrated Metal Gear franchise. Just like how Sony fanboys pan Halo for being overrated, I am paning the way overblown interactive game know as MGS. If I want to watch a great movie I will go to the theater and see iron man instead of trying to play a movie that trys to act like a game (MGS4). MGS3 was crap, half of it was cut scenes, I will pass on MGS4, I am as done with that franchise as I am with Final fantasy.

Every PS3 fanboy got it in there puny little heads that MGS4 is gonna sell better and gonna be better than GTA IV or any other game this year.It will never happen.You cant compare MGS to GTA because the GTA universe is alot larger.Just because that is the 1st good exclusive for the PS3 doesnt make it worth buying.

Reality is, that MGS4 is still a stealth game at its core, which is an acquired taste. MGS4 will be outsold by Gears 2, just like Halo 2 outsold MGS3 and that was with a PS2 userbase 5 times that of the original Xbox. Sorry Sonyboys, but MGS4 is not going to be as huge as you think.

Given that NPD numbers don't include Walmart sales, I don't see why they're even brought into these discussions. Walmart is the biggest retailer in the country. You can't possibly expect to get an accurate count of sales without including them.

11.2 - The NPD is market research company,
they track lots of stuff. They mainly help retailers figure out customer purchasing habits. Some retailer won't share their sales data with the NPD group. I don't know which ones, but Walmart may be one of them and I think there are more, but I don't know who.

I still don't get it, you release a console a year ahead of everyone and then expect oh well we have a bigger installbase so we win. If you just compare the data of how many 360 were sold in its first year and how many ps3 were sold in its first year, you can clearly make out that ps3 is catching up pretty quickly.

Few months?
Just a couple of months, of a very small misure, on nearly one year and half.
And from this month this already changed back to a small monthly advantage of MS (and without making a price drop!).

About Europe, seems that numbers are not yet on PS3 favour.
SURELY PS3 is growing muche better that 360 in Europe (WITHOUT COUNTING UK), but 360 still has the lead on overall installed base.
And we have yet to see te sales after recent price drop.

I am not suprised that Sony are catching MS in Europe. MS happly hand out free downloads to Americans in the form of themes, tv shows etc and even the ones you pay for are half the price state side. They have the Live Passport and special gaming events for people in the US and again Europe get nothing. What i am suprised at is how long it has taken for people to realise that they are getting stung.
