a better(and more respectable)option for MS would have been to ban all the homophobes form Live. instead of banning the guy who was just on Live to play games,who happens to gay, MS should have banned all the ppl yelling offensive slurs at him.

i agree w/ socsca, if MS wanted to clean up sexually explicit names form Live they would also ban names involving banging someones mom or tea bagging.

if he can't use theGAYgamer than ppl sould not be allowed to use any name that describes any personal preference. It is unreasonable the expect homosexuals never to mention the fact. It is also inconsistent since heterosexuals don't have to live with such strictures (indeed, I could make the case the opposite is true), and in all likelyhood you would find such a request unreasonable if applied to you (and so you should).

The idea that homosexuals should be make it know they are gay is a silly homophobic arguement made by homophobes who realise their homophobia is unreasonable.

have you read the article. it clearly states that if the name was straightgamer or heterogamer, they would be asked to change it.

And that is what happened, this gamer was asked to change it.

The problem is that we live in a society where people are hyper sensitive. And we also have kids that play on XBox live that might not understand, and parents ill equiped to explain what the name might mean or why that person used that name.

Microsoft did the right thing, and just to do just a general ban or request to change. That way you cover all ground.

The world we live in isn't rosey and acceptable as we would like it to be. Too many people are easily offended and don't like things in their face.

Look at parents that can't use their parental contols or the ESRB ratings to buy games for their kids. What do they do...? They try to get things changed for the masses instead of controlling what goes on in their own home. People are irresponsible and that is not going to change any time soon.

Just reacting to the idea that homosexuals should keep their sexuality to themselves.

In regards to the article. I don't agree with the ban.

If parents was to cosset their children. That is fine. But buying them a console and letting them connect to the internet unsupervised (because I am skeptical that an unsupervised child would last ten seconds before the lead was yanked from the wall).

Also "theGAYERgamer" is not "innuendo." It is fairly up front and honest. "gaymer" could be contrued as innuendo I suppose.

Similarly theGAYERgamer is not covered by the ruling on "Racism, hate speech, bigotry, homophobia." And I hope you forgive my skepticism if I think names that are openly or covertly heterosexual are banned.

However. I don't care to much. I was mainly replying to the idea that gay people should STFU with regards to their sexuality.

Though I do find it hard that (according to Microsoft and a few others) there are people who are worried little Bobby might find out some boys like kissing boys when he should be blowing someone's face with a shotgun.

It does seem like an odd choice of priorities to me.

People seem to something very similar to "Don't throw your sexuality in my face." But it seems like everyone's straight sexuality is thrown in my face on gamer sites all day long. Take the article Playboy Cyber Girl of the Year Is A True Player which is a few stories down from this one. I wonder why no one is raging in the comment section of that story? Because, according many gamer's views, it's ok to talk about how much you love the opposite sex. But once it becomes a man talking about how hot, say, CliffyB is then it becomes throwing your sexuality in my face. It's fine to say sexuality should not be thrown about, but this site, and a large amount of gamers, do. It just happens to be ok as long as it's their sexuality.

In all seriousness though. I'm glad some one can see it that way.

I suppose the very least I am asking for is that a person thinks about what they are asking when they ask a marginalised group to do something to help him pretend everyone is a white heterosexual male and to ignore the actual reality.

I'm very much of the opinion that if someone cannot handle the idea of boys kissing or girls kissing or women having an opinion or ethnic minorities having the vote, then they need to grow the f**k up. And not expect the rest of society to cosset them and pretend none of those things exist. They need to face reality, not run away...

Especially with regards to children. It is probably healthy for them (and society) to learn that there are many permutations to human relationship. After all there is a high chance Bobby won't fit nicely into the heterosexual pigeon hole created for him.

The forces of government and justice are the same people that sentence people to death and start wars with other countries, sometimes for no real resons but to get more control.

I thought the bible said "thou shalt not kill"? I mean how hard is that to interpret? Still, the president of the U.S., as chosen by God, legalizes guns and the death penalty and also starts wars with other countries and the invisible enemy known as 'terrorism'. And why not massproduce weapons and sell them to other countries so they can kill each other too? God loves that, doesn't he? Btw, how do you know it's a he?

I also haven't seen any proof that God exists and I only tend to believe in things that exist. If he/she/it contacts me I'll let you know.

I urge you to at least check the beginning of the movie I linked to earlier, the part that discusses the similarity between religions. You are welcome to watch the rest as well =)

It is much easier to argue against religion nowadays, then for it. All fanboyism aside, props to you for being real. Jenzo seems to not understand the concept of free will when he says that God chose the President, and why can't we blame God? What Jenzo should realize is that there are a million different sources you could look up to argue for or against religion, and putting something down that you haven't ever seen, or sensed in any way is probably the easiest thing in the world to do. However, there is a reason that they call it "faith". It is trusting in something that you may not know for sure is there, but you believe in your heart 100% that it exists. God is not the reason for the terrible things that have happened over the course of time, and Jenzo (if you don't believe in God, which seems to be the case) you should even believe in free will. If there is such a thing as free will, why is it so hard to believe that Christians believe God gave that to us? That is one of the very first things revealed to us in the Bible in the book of Genesis and the story of Adam and Eve. Do you think God said, "Now I will make Eve give into temptation and take the fruit of evil and ruin the Earth and all of mankind before it even begins!"?

@ Jenzo... In order to be open-minded as you say Bladestar isn't, you must yourself be willing to consider the alternative. Thank you for presenting another movie about why God doesn't exist, please wait while I find a million more that say the opposite. Choose for yourself. The Bible says what it says, simple as that. The Bible does not say that you must pay anyone anything, or that you must obey the government, just thy mother and thy father. You, regardless of the consequences there are, still DO have free will, and thousands or maybe millions of people don't pay their taxes every year thanks to free will. You pray before supper, don't you? I believe in lots of things, probably more things than you. Philosophy and science are two of them. Rationality is another one. I trust in my own judgement in making the right decisions. Don't need a religious book for that.

What is it that makes the Christian bible more close to the "truth" than say the Quran or the Torah? How come you are right and they are wrong? You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

If you chose the religion by yourself, how come it is a telling fact that, the world over, the vast majority of children follow the religion of their parents rather than any of the other available religions? Would you still be christians and believe in the bible if your parents were muslim of jewish?

I never said the Christian bible was more close to the "truth" than others, but the whole point of the "faith" is that you believe in it whole-heartedly. Of course people are going to be outraged when someone denies the existence of their God, and you are outraged when someone disputes your claims as well. I never said I was right and they were wrong, I am simply stating beliefs, no definitive facts. Also, just proving your ignorance again, you asked, "Would you still be christians and believe in the bible if your parents were muslim of jewish?"- My mother and stepfather (who raised me), are not Christians, so once again, please stop trying to stereotype all Christians. Also I wonder which version of the Bible you got your passage from, because the King James Version goes like this, "28If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days."

The word "rape" is never once used in this passage, but regardless of that, this would not refute free will even if it did. If this was God making someone do this against their will, then he would physically force the hand to give up the money. The man or rapist (in your translation) does have the option of not doing as the Bible says (like 99 percent of us do everyday) and just blowing God off. God won't do anything about it, the man will be taken care of on his Judgement Day as the Bible would tell you.

Nitpicking Bible verses will not prove anything in your defense, Jenzo. Please stop trying to stereotype Christians, it just shows that you have quickly reached the limits of your mind.
