IGN - PlayStation Home Dissected: In-depth Interview

Late to the party by more than a year now, the PlayStation 3's answer to Xbox 360 achievements, PC's Second Life and MySpace's social networking is still hanging in the eaves. Gradually, however, 'PlayStation Home' is nearing completion; a closed beta has been operating for several months as the features are locked into place, tested thoroughly and continually tweaked.

It would be nice to see a video of what it was supposed to look like on the PS2 can't belive they've been working on this for 4 years now and its only starting to shape up.
Lets hope they keep the release date to Full and the Open beta will happen in November. Hopefully.

I can believe it's taken four years. It's an ambitious service. They're trying to recreate an open internet type service but in 3D.

I have absolutely no faith that the final product will be released in 1.0 form in 2008.

November is cutting it close, and I'll be stunned if we actually do get a beta by then.

If there's anything I've learned about this current generation of video gaming, it's to NEVER expect ANYthing to hit ANY sort of "deadline".

Having NO expectations saves you from feeling let down every time a delay or problem occurs.

the idea of home is mind boggling. if they want to make it as great as they say, i believe its going to take a much longer time to complete. The possibilities are endless with home. It could very well bring an evolution in our social structure but if they do it half assed, it could just be a cheap gimmick. thats why they are taking their time i think.

5 - To be honest
there are a few chat sites that house what Playstation is trying to do. So, if you want to get an idea of how it's going to work give these sites a try. One site I think that comes close, minus the game interaction is IMVU.COM. The site has the same idea, a player gets a room that he/she can update with furniture. The character, can buy clothing, poses, dance and and change their expression. On top of that new features like houses, cars, and clubs can be brought. Here is where it gets corny. The avatars can have sex, fight, have relationships, and appear necked if an access pass is brought. So, if you haven't seen IMVU
I would check it out, because more then likely, this is going to be under the same guide lines minus a few things, and with added things to use for the ps3.
Is IMVU good? Yeah, is it award winning, maybe. Whats going to make Home good is the people. As long as people don't make it a dating, and easy meet you sex tool it should be alright.

6 - Wow, that was an amazing interview.
And yeah, this really is a one time opportunity to expand social gaming, and Sony needs to get it right. Given the option, I would probably want to start off in Home every time I turn on my PS3.
