Top 10 Miyamoto Games

It's difficult to imagine where video games would be today without Shigeru Miyamoto. Would Grand Theft Auto IV exist without the three-dimensional world pioneered by Super Mario 64 in 1996? More importantly, how well would 3D games play without Miyamoto's innovations? Would there be item upgrades to unlock new areas of a game as popularized by Zelda in 1987? Would there be side-scrollers? Would there be action-adventure games? Would the platform genre exist at all?

Would we use "1-up" to reference an extra life as opposed to its original meaning of "player one's turn"? Would there be analog sticks? Would there be motion-controls? Would video games have rebounded from the 1983 crash? Would there be Nintendo?

Some younger gamers may grow tired of the continual industry praise and glowing respect given to Miyamoto, but his far-reaching influence is ever present, whether you play his games or not. To pay homage to his numerous contributions, here are his 10 greatest games by today's standards, taking into consideration his entire 84 game library either as a designer, director, or watchful producer.

1 - The gaming God
Okay, maybe not a God lol,but you gotta admit:Miyamoto and his team have come up with arguably the most memorable and groundbreaking titles in video gaming.

^ This is why I almost cried when I learned the 'secret' game Miyamoto was working on was in fact WiiFit,I'm not knocking the 'game',I guess I just expected Miyamoto to deliver another AAA IP.

On a side note,I can't believe that list doesn't have OOT.

3 - Personally...
I think it's a pretty decent list of some great games created by one of the greatest designers in history. Whether you like it or not, Nintendogs is the reason the DS became the unstoppable force that it is now in handheld gaming.

Super Mario Bros 3 deserves to be the top spot though, since it is still one of the most beloved games made by him.

What suprised me though, was that his Gamecube masterpiece Pikmin wasn't on the list, since that franchise is absolutely fantastic. I really hope that we get a Pikmin 3 this year.

all he does is steals ideas from other people.

I can imagine gaming today without Miyamoto, and it will be WAY BETTER

I don't know if you're joking or not, but if not then you don't know what you are talking about.

Without Miyamoto, there wouldn't be any gaming today. He is the one that saved the industry when it was about done for.

He invented platforming as we know it, as well as progression of a game to an end: with Donkey Kong and later with Super Mario Bros.

He practically created modern 3-d gaming as we know it with Super Mario 64, which utilized an analog stick, which later became a part of mainstream gaming.

He created some of the most revered franchises in history, as well as trying to find different ways of playing games, which is where Wii Sports comes in.

Don't make comments like you did unless you know the history, or you just look ignorant. Saying that he is not near gaming godhood is like saying Kojima isn't.

he did not create 3d games he stole the idea from another game that came out on PSX a year before.

Also all his franchise like Zelda, Metariod are all stolen concepts from different games that game out before on different system like Commodore 64

5.3 - So what you're saying is....
That every fantasy is not original, since fantasies came before it.

Or ever Science Fiction can't be original, since Sci Fi came before it.

Every type of story started somewhere, but you can use a genre and still have it be original. He did that with his franchises. Lord of the Rings brought Fantasy based story telling to the forefront of book reading, but it wasn't the first fantasy ever created. It was still original though.

Consoles had to that point been strictly a 2-d and pixelated fare, but Super Mario 64 brought console gaming to 3-d and showed that it could be a blast.

You may dislike Miyamoto or Nintendo (Like most insecure teenagers)but come up with an argument that makes sense. Otherwise you are just ignorant.

Mario 64 was NOT the 1st 3D game

There is a difference between taking idea and being a total rip off.

Like Mario is a total rip off Pitfall

Zelda is a total rip off Sword Quest.

But you are too young to know

5.5 - Too young?
I didn't say that Super Mario 64 was the first 3-d game, but I did say that it was the game to influence the transition from 2-d to 3-d as we know it today.

Donkey Kong released in 1981
Pitfall released in 1982

So it could be argued that they stole Miyamoto's idea, not the other way around.

SwordQuest was a rip off of Adventure actually...so your argument dies there. Also, Zelda was a completely different type of game that SwordQuest was.
