About a year ago, I could tell you that there's a major difference between Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Now days, they aren't so different. They are priced similarly, and they share a good number of the same games. It really comes down to first party exclusives. Who's exclusives do you want? It's all a matter of preference.

With Blu Rays victory in January,HD penetration increasing,and Exclusives releasing,it's kinda plain to see that the Ps3 is positioning itself as the HD box to own in your house,and succeeding at that.

A lot of people slammed Sony for the inclusion of Blu Ray in their Ps3,now with future movies having only a Blu Ray release,Sony are looking wiser and wiser.

Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Little big planet, Socom :Confrontation, MGS4, GT5, FF XIIV, The agency, Haze, Motorstorm 2....
Those are most of the exclusives. And we get the same multi-platoform games as the 360 does!

The majority of Xbox 360 owners were Original Xbox owners most likely, so it's obvious how they may feel toward the PS3.

However, the Original Xbox only sold around 25 million console units worldwide, while the PS2 sold over 120 million, and there are more people around the world that are Sony console users and that means that there are more people around the world that are potential PS3 owners.

The Xbox 360 owners view of the PS3 isn't even any different that the person that has just a PS3 and there view towards the 360.

I think that the introduction of a Gamerscore and all that other stuff on the Xbox 360 is almost dumb because it's like so many Xbox gamers are just Achievement Whores and they only play video games just to increase there Gamerscore and they don't play video games for the Love of video games.

The Playstation 3 hasn't even hit it's stride yet because not even one highly anticipated game has been released. All I've got to say is that once MGS4 is released, PS3 sales will soar. And then there's just a list of other MUST HAVE PS3 exclusives that will be system sellers this year.

And just one more thing. PS3 exclusive games actually stay exclusive to the console. Xbox 360 games almost always get ported to the PC.

But, Sony has a much bigger lineup of Exclusives than Microsoft does and that's the flat out truth. Sony has more game studios than Microsoft does, and each year there are only a small handful of games that are actually published by Microsoft Game Studios.

The PS3's future exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Socom Confrontation, The Getaway 3, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and more will be the selling point for the PS3. Microsoft's Game Studios just can't keep up with Sony's and Exclusive games is what makes a console, not Xbox Live, Achievements, and GamerScores.

And yeah, I still don't understand the appeal of Gamerscore and Achievements since it's really just code that's looping on the system. They're arbitrary numbers that don't mean anything, or contribute to gameplay as far as I'm concerned. But that's because those things didn't exist on the original Xbox and I never upgraded to a 360. I'm pretty sure I would get addicted though, despite all the logic i just spewed out.

Great article that shows the majority of people who are still on previous-gen consoles will probably see the PS3 as a really great option.

I think that there's a lot of people out there waiting for price cut to buy PS3! people seldom buy based on value, but always buy based on price! the only anchor left which prevent the PS3 from flying is the price! Don't get me wrong, I know that at the moment, the PS3 is 'cruising' but still can't be considered as 'flying', if you get what I mean. simply said, 'flying' means Wii-like 'flying'!

most of gamers nowadays owns a PS or PS2 (I know I'm right at that) and when they heard of PS3 launch, they are thinking of getting it just to be slammed by the high price tag and the issues like delayed games and no big hitters in its 1st year compared to the competitions from 360 big hitters last year (eventhough the 360 was in its 2nd year) and multiplatformers more than always performed better on 360 due to the complexity to program for it which hurted its capability and potential badly! that was where the 360 took full advantage and made gamers buying it despite having a serious issue of the infamous RRoD which forced MS to offer extended warranty and cost them more than 1 billion dollars in expense!

it's a good thing that the PS3 survived the 360 counter attack by the announcement of a hefty price cut and the launch of the cheaper 40GB SKU! It's now clearly dominant in EU region and catching up in NA! game qualities had also gone up and big hitters are already waiting in the release pipeline! anybody saying that the PS3 lineup for this year is trash is just in a very deep denial! PS3 have proven itself as more than capable to outdo the 360 in every aspect and yes, it includes the PSN! online gaming had always been free until the introduction of XBL! people are saying the XBL is better - yeah, because it should be!! people paid for it!!

wait for the big hitters coming and the doubters which are mostly the 360 fanboys will truly see the power of PS brands!! We've seen what GT5P is doing in EU and MGS4 will take the baton next!

I always wanted a 360, but I was never one to spend my money on more than one console per generation. The main reason I bought a PS3 was for backward compatibility (my PS2 was a piece of crap, it scratched most of my blue bottom discs, it was worse than the PS1 that I had to flip over for it to work). I figured I'll get it now and use it as a PS2 until the good PS3 games start coming out. I think it has worked out for me. The only exclusive that I want to play on the 360 are Halo 3, Mass Effect, Fable 2, and Alan Wake. I am a patient person (hell I own a PS3), I can wait for them to come out on PC. Hate me if you want. I think I pissed off both groups of fanboys. Anyway have fun gaming.

3 people in the last 2 weeks i work with were 360 owners, now they are ps3 owners. and 2 of those 3, traded in their 360 and all their games for their new ps3's and gta4's. i'm pretty sure that is going to be a popular sinario. you can't tell me theres not going to be a bunch of 360 owners who buy a ps3 for the exclusives. i see a lot more doing that than ps3 owners buying a 360. IMO.

Most x360 owners i can tell value live, achievements, gamescores etc very highly. I strongly believe this is mostly due to my belief that the core xbox owners are mostly from a PC background. It is explain why a fair chunk prefer FPS and are hardcore. PS fans however are mostly from a console background mostly from SNES and Genesis era as well as new gamers. Its the reason why they tend to prefer traditional console games like action adventure thrid person games, platformers etc which have been traditionally popular on consoles.

Because of this. A fair chunk of PS fans which is very big propotion of gamers don't value online gaming as highly as xbox fans. This is were the problem is.To make things worse the PS fansbase as most know is distributed evenly between the east and the west unlike the xbox which is mostly are in the west. There is no question that online gaming is very big in western countries but not as much as in the east and the rest of the world that don't have the ISP to do so like where i live.
This is why i believe most PS gamer like myself really don't care about xbox live etc and as such don't value the x360 that much.Its nothing personal at all.

However for me personally i do see now that the x360 is now worth a buy for games like NG2,Too Human and especaily Alan Wake. The price was never an issue. I bought a PS3 for 600 USD not including any game or accessories so buying a x360 is a piece of cake. My only concern is the hardware issue and i think by the end of this year it would be resolved when i by one. There are too many good exclusives on both console that any serious gamer shouldn't miss out on them.

Since the 360 have been out long before PS3, plenty, if not most gamers have been exposed to it's ups and downs already.

Hardcore 360 owners have invested a lot of time and money into their machine. So they conveniently forget that not everybody share their view.

PS3 is as good a choice as the 360, and many even see it as the better option. So effectively 360 owners are the ones with a skewered view of image.

bought my ps3 60gb day one for £469 with resistance,i knew it would take time for the games to come but as i have 200+ ps2 titles it wasn,t a case of worrying about having nothink to play at launch.
i looked at getting the 360 due to the delays of the ps3 then rrod started to appear and a few people that i knew who had got them were getting some serious issues with scratching discs and bad after sales treatmant from m/s so that was me out.
when i checked out what the ps3 had under the hood in terms of its hardware ie wifi,bluray,harddrive,memory slots etc,i could see the value in the system,at the time the cheapest blu ray player was £499 and considering hi def games need space bluray was the perfect answer for the years ahead.
as for online the 360 as the edge at the moment if your interested in points etc but psn is starting to get some nice downloadable content with the likes of warhawk,socom,wipeout,flow,sup er stardust hd etc etc,not just old retro games from the past,and with psp connectivity and tv recordable tuner to add it offers me more than the 360 is capable of doing and its free,
best of all it looks like it belongs to my bravia lcd they should drop the white 360 i mean who wants that under your £1000 lcd no one i know, better if they made it silver or black like the elite.
anyone know if the 150mb cap rate for downloads still applies for xbox live?

For all intents and purposes, my life would be easier if I just owned a 360, but I can't. All my freinds own 360's, but for some reason I decided I wanted to go the road less travelled and get a PS3.

Now a console, IMO, is a long term investment. And, while right now the 360 has the advantage in the software dep., this is going to change drastically in the years to follow.

FF, God Of War, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, the new Team Ico Project, The New Hideo Kojima Project, Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, MGS4, The Getaway, Ratchet and Clank, etc. You can't experience these games anywhere else.

Not to mention games like Bioshock, MassEffect, and even Gears3 are all rumored to make an appearance on the PS3. These claims are not as farfetched as one might think. By the time the sequels to these games come out, the install base for the PS3 will rival if not exceed that of the 360. Devs. will double their profit from these games. MS can try to buy the exclusive rights to them, but that is going to become more and more expensive. If they try to do this they will probably only lose money in the long run.

Then you look at the fact that most of their best exclusives come out on the PC anyways. I know this doesn't apply to most ppl, but I already have a Gaming PC that rivals the performance of a 360. I would much rather sink that 300-400$ in my PC than a 360.

Sony has some 20 dev. working on exclusive properties for them. MS has only 5. Their future lineup reflects this. Now that Sony is done w/ the PS2 and focused on PS3 dev., they will hands down have more exclusives coming out.

Another selling point of the PS3 for me is the Blu Ray drive. I'm a film nut. Movies are the one thing I love as much as Games (or maybe cars). This also makes the PS3 a no-brainer.

And the way ppl attack PS3 as a glorified Blu Ray player are also misguided. Blu Rays have major implications on next gen gaming. Look at GTA4 for example. The devs at R* have said themselves that San Andreas had more content. What has changed since that game came out? Both games are held to the 7.5gb DVD standard. Fact of the matter is, GTA4 required more space for the advanced programming it required. This in turn left less space for actual "content".

DVD's can not meet the needs of storage space for next gen gaming. MS could have remedied this by making HDD's mandatory, but they chose not to, which was another poor choice on their part. In terms of longevity, based on storage space alone, PS3 definetly has a bigger advantage.

You wouldn't have this problem if MS included an Hi Def drive w/ the 360, but they had their eyes on the bottom line. How could they build the cheapest next gen console and sell at the lowest loss? If MS would have just put their support in Hi Def, it would still be alive and kicking today. But they had their faith in Digital Downloads, a technology that wont come to fruition for some years to come, and maybe not even b4 the next XBOX debuts.

Another thing I couldn't ignore was the lack of quality. The power brick, the jet engine fans, the rampant RROD's. The overpriced peripherals. Sony is a well established electronics manufacterer, of course they would build a more solid product.

And overall, I just hate the way MS is so restrictive of its products. You have to use their proprietary HDD. All content must be cleared through MS b4 it goes up on XBL. XBL files must be a certain size. Sony doesn't limit its customers nearly as much, you have a lot more freedom when it comes to the PS3. I use an XBOX 360 camera for my PS3 to video chat I got from a freind.(PS3 also support 4 way video chat as opposed to 1 on 1)

Not to mention PSN meets my needs, and its FREE! I can deal with the fact it is taking them a long time to roll out more features, as long as it stays free. XBL uses P2P instead of Dedicated servers (except for a few games like Frontlines). Halo, Gears, COD4, etc, all suffer from host advantage and chronic lag on XBL.

I'm not trying to bash the 360. There is a slim possibility I might pick one up w/ the next price drop, but in the long run the PS3 meets my needs better.

I understand why the bots would see the PS3 as crap.
Everything they've ever hoped for has disappeared.
They're 1 year lead is diminishing, those millions M$ spent to get the upper hand in the GTA IV sales didn't give them the lead they expected. The 360's credibility has also diminished in the face of opposition, hardware failure and customer service.
They had a foot hold in Europe but lost it, The U.S. is coming around and constantly buying more PS3's than 360s month after month after month. Japan turned it's back on an inferior product and embraced the PS3 and Wii.
The high hopes for the 2008 game line up has recently been laughed at with only 7 titles coming this year and only one of those 7 deserves any consideration.

Bots like POG, Jason 360, green crabs and PP will never admit it, but they're green, green with envy and just pissed little b1tches for betting on the wrong horse.

It's not only 360 vs. PS3, it's also the progress in technology behind these consoles. Making money is key to exist in the console market, of course, but to make new innovations (or to go new directions) is much more important not only for this gen but also for next-gen, and also for our society as a whole.

My decision on buying a new system also depends on how much new innovations goes into that system as a whole. You, the raw gamer, may argue that the only thing you need to do on a console is gaming. Yeah, this is a valid point. However, that you can argue this way (today) is a result of innovations from the past! Supporting those innovations at the point they came to life is a really tough job to do, since they are usually rather expensive, initially. But as time goes on, those innovation are assumed to become trivial and you may simply forget the shoulders you stand upon.

Honestly, the 360 has brought no innovation with it. It was built in a rush with a major failure rate to serve the only purpose to compete with a really innovative company for the money at stake.

The PS3 has brought innovations and pushed a lot of technologies to become accessible, as there are;
- the innovative Cell Broadband Architecture (not only the Cell processor)
- new memory technology/interfaces (25GB memory bus, XDR RAM, FlexIO)
- blue laser discs technology to store data beyond 200GB
- high definition video/music (HDMI interconnect, FullHD)
- ...

But not only does the PS3 kicks in new innovations and technology, it also serves our society beyond gaming, today. The PS3 helps in curing major threats to human life, caused by (for example) cancer and the Alzheimer's disease, via the Folding@Home project. The compound of all the PS3s participating in the Folding@Home project have surpassed every other system in existence (whether PCs, graphics accelerator boards, or whatever) in computational resources beyond the rock-solid 1PetaFLOP barrier to gain insight into these threats. You don't care? Someday you will (hopefully not)! Think about your family or your beloved boy/girlfriend! At the day the terrific message comes in you would pretend to do anything to help, to support innovations and technology. The PS3 is there to help, since day 1!

The PS3 further enhances our knowledge of physical system as well as of our universe by providing researchers with a cheap and very powerful resource to do complex calculations on the PS3, on the Cell processor, via Linux. Btw; Did you know that IBM now builds the most single powerful supercomputer in the world (called Roadrunner) with the help of thousands of Cell processors, reaching the 1PetaFLOP mark, to deliver outstanding computational resources for the field of life science?

Further, the PS3 has pushed high-definition video due to its high-definition interconnects (HDMI, etc.) and the incorporation of the blu-ray technology. And believe me, high-definition video isn't only good for watching videos! It serves a lot more usefull instances.

I could expand the list without end.

And yes, there are the games we love so much. The PS3 has plenty of good games and a lot more superior games to come. But not only games, as a gamer you (indirectly) support all the things I've mentioned above by simply buying a PS3 and do whatever you want to do with it.

Well, as you may already see, there is so much more going on with the PS3. For me, this defines why I support the PS3. It is the overall performance of the system. And this performance cannot be met by the 360. The 360 may have some very good games, too, but the spirit of the PS3 is much more deeply rooted and is essentially what defines the PLAYSTATION brand, and is essentially what you feel if you just play great games on your PS3.

My respect goes to Sony, Toshiba, and IBM in making the PS3 a reality!

I'm a Sony fanboy (am I?) for a bunch of good reasons, but I'm a fanboy who has studied mathematics and computer science (in germany) and I know the #### I'm talking about. Now tell me! 8)
