6 Reasons Why the Wii Isn't the Industry's Saviour

RewiredMind:

"This is the first in a series of posts that I intend to make under the "6 Reasons" banner. Why? Because I love writing lists. I mean, I LOVE writing lists. I have lists all over my house, all over my computers and if I could, I'd tattoo one under my right eyelid so I could see it when I sleep. Mildly obsessively compulsive? Maybe.

Either way, the first topic I'll be covering is to do with the success of Nintendo's Wii platform and how I think that the machine isn't the saviour that everyone is making it out to be. Don't worry Wii-fans, I'll have a little argument with myself overnight and write a countering post tomorrow. So, without further ado."

who said it was and that's a pretty weak list they must of took 2 seconds to think up. As far as dumbing games you can say that for a lot of developers even on PS3/360 as they are getting extreamly easier.

He admits to having a penchant for writing lists. At least he doesn't admit to having a penchant for writing objective, high-quality lists tho lol

2 - Who ever said WIi was the industry savior?
I have heard the Wii called many things but never that one.

3 - I must have missed the memo...
that said:

1) The industry actually needs saving
2) The Wii decided it would need to be the designated savior

Oh, neither of the above are true? Then I guess this article was unnecessary. Since the author likes making lists so much perhaps he can make one about what Nintendo can do with all the cash they're raking in. He could go on for DAYS.

4 - Saves and Kills**
The fact that even nowadays people have to wait in line for a wii or get inside tips on shipment dates. (1 AM at wal-mart in a line to get mine was not a great way to spend time after work!)

and the next is gaming, Mario Kart Wii, and perhaps Brawl are the only ones I can see for a few "Hardcore" gamers. Anything else will be gamecube. So far nintendo has been making games more and more casual and producing mainly to the casual gamers, Where might the love be for the hardcore gamers? (I don't mean simply war-games like ps3) but something where the rating will be higher than E rating and isn't a remake perhaps. (Resident Evil/Biohazard is not included in the "hated" list)

I could think up a really huge list of pros and cons for the Wii, but it would just be similar to this bloggers one. The Wii is just to "casual" now as developers play with the motion controllers. Many have said it's a fad and it will die out until some good games come out for it and some of these developers stop BSing with the controllers and make content that is fun and worth while to play. ( I mean who the hell makes a petz catz 2 and where the F*** do you get the funds for a 2?!) Anyway, the Wii will more than likely be a savior in the fact that it will give nintendo profit for only so long, but it will also be the death of it if they continue to let developers just use the motion sensor controls as it's promotion.

I'm starting to really get angry over myself for standing half naked in wal-mart waiting to get the damn Wii.

what is your definition for hardcore games? you also have super mario galaxy, metroid prime 3, pes 2008, zack and wiki, super paper mario, moh heroes 2, no more heroes, zelda tp, resident evil 4 okami and so on. even if some of those games are last gen games they still are good hardcore games for the wii..

Its not the esrb ratings that makes a game hardcore...

or is it?

I was hoping not to get into a full blown out list but I can see their is no other option.
Games that are saves to the Wii:
-Metroid
-Mario (perhaps)
-Biohazard (As I stated in my post before)
-Zelda TP (For gamecube so it's a remake I guess It's neutral~ish)
-no more heroes (I have yet to play, but looking into it, its basically this vs. brawl)

I agree most of these games are hardcore-last gen titles, but one can only hope for a RPG similar to FF or KH on the Wii, something that is actually you know as difficult as Biohazard some of the times. (I know Monster Hunter 3 is coming out and that is probably going to be the ultimate save for the Wii [At least for me])

I guess the point I'm trying to get at is, stop remaking games, and stop making so many casual games (Golfing, Fishing, tennis) we have enough sports games, I think it's time we work on my RPGs, shooters, and you know more *Interesting titles* because the list you provided, with the subtle list I provided will not get the wii off of it's feet for a second, maybe for the younger and older generation, but what about the middle crowd? Mario Kart Wii only lasted me so long at least until I get back on wifi and wear that out to the bone.

So recap *My def. of hardcore game*
Something for the middle crowd, something that is challenging, and enticing for those who have played games for quite some time, not a remake but a continuation of the story would be nice (and hell no to petz catz 2 or even a 3 for that matter). Really the Wii right now is just getting at the older generation and younger generation, maybe next year with mh3 is the time when it actually saves, but one cannot guess what these developers are thinking.

This article seems pretty pointless to me because we all know that all 3 systems are reaching their target audiences. Hardcores play hardcore games, casuals play casual games. Yes the Wii targets casuals more and that's who's buying their games.

8 - Correction:
Lazy devs make online bad. It isn't Xbox live, but EA managed to make it Xbox live minus the voice chat and some of the linking infrastructure...
