I firmly believe that unless Gears comes up with new original game-play elements, it will be pretty much the same game as Gears1. R2 will own Gears b/c of new array of completely different weaponry, huge improvement in gfx (compared to gears 2's evolutionary change), waaaay more enemies on screen that fight vs a scripted flood of mindless locusts (100 locusts... actual 3-5 fighting, rest just bumbling about into each other like the game-play video). The first r1 already showcased huge # enemies onscreen and the sequel is likely to have even more than gears2. The only thing I think Gears2 has over R2 right now is better scripted plot events... but that's about it. Finally, R2 seems to have a lot more room for polish than gears 2. The developers at Insomniac have no prior FPS experience, and yet look at how well r1 was made.No spus on the ps3 were utilized for r1 and it was still buttery smooth. My speculation is Gears2 is probably the closest title out there to utilize all of the 360's power. My reasoning is looking at gears 1 which to this day, still hasn't been surpassed by any other 360 title.

While I think that Gears of War 2 will look very purty and all that, Resistance 2 has A lot of stuff going on with 2 singelplayer campaigns, Dynamic levels, 60p multiplayer and 8player-coop.
I'm a graphics whore most of the time, but Resistance 2 has raised my eyebrows because of the almost insane and impossible gameplay feats they're going to implement.. it has piqued my interest even though I hate these kind of games.

Mouse/keyboard-support would be very welcome, Insomniac! :)

Sales - Gears will have great numbers considering the 360 user base and all the hype it will generate from here till launch.

Innovation, Technology and Size and "STEADY MULTIPLAYER" Framerate - Resistance 2 will own just about everything in this department. Gears would have been competitive in this department if it wasn't still using UE3.

In conclusion, its a win for both PS360 owners since both games will be incredibly fun.

I firmly believe that Resistance can pull this off. Xbox is comparing a second generation(very highly hyped) game to a PS3 launch title. The outcome was closer than Microsoft probably wanted. They were both excelent games, yet Resistance was a launch title. We'll see what happens, but I'm leaning towards the PS3 on this one.

if its about sales, even i think GOW2 will most likely beat Resistance 2 in sales. Because unlike the 360 this year, PS3 has more games then Resistance 2 to offer, it has more variety of games and the big-hitters are all really good games, which may cloud Resistance out a tad. Unlike 360 which has a bigger install base anyway and GOW2 is also THE focus of the year, THE game to get for 360 owners, because there aren't many other games that'll cloud it out. Does that mean GOW2 will be the better game? No, not neccesarily. I know im buying Resistance 2. Can't wait to try out the 60 player online

Resistance 2 MP will definitely be better than Gears MP. I personally prefer 3rd person shooters to 1st person. Gears looks good and will probably look better than resistance. Resistance needs to have the some moments where ppl go WOW. They have to work twice as hard as epic because epic already has their formula down. R2 should be a hit and so should gears but gears is a very very very tough act to follow.

Gears could be exactly the same as the last one get lower review scores but it will still be a tough act to follow

what surprises me is that the first time this happened, gears of war graphics blew people away...before the game even released there was tons of hype...over the years,
RFOM slowly but surely reached great hieghts..each are respected as being top notch FPS and TPS made by quality developers... what is different is that gears triumph last time, i.e. graphic supremacy isn't as mind blowingly refreshing, but RFOM is pushing what it was good at, i.e. game play/multiplayer, beyond hype if that is possible...
I can just remember the first 60 mp, 8 player online co-op was announced...if they pull it off, I can see RFOM, pulling one over gears of war...first gears of war, second round me thinks will go to RFOM...
another thing is that COD4 did what nobody could have predicted, it topped Halo3 on xbox live, and though we don't know about psn, I'd reckon it rocked the joint there. COD5 is coming out, but not being IW, is what may be it's falling grace...not to mention farcry/haze etc..also possibly GTA multiplayer extensions should be coming this fall...

When Gears came out it was like watching a football game and the only guy on the field was a running back named Gears of War. No Defense, nothing. There were no other games that fall to speak of, not even on the 360. It made Gears look better than it was.

Well this year it is different. There are linebackers on the field that eat running backs for breakfast. One of them is a mutant named Nathan Hale and he doesn't truck crap. They have a new state of the art graphics engine - remember, this is the team that built Ratchet and Clank FTOD - and they have vast maps with an unbelievable co-op.

Riding a rail platform and seeing some out of focus vistas isn't the same thing as watching huge aircraft attack the battlefield on which you are fighting while the Golden Gate Bridge is blown apart.

Gears is actually closer to 6 Million now, double what Resistance was. And those Resistance numbers are also inflated because Resistance was boxed in with the PS3. Number would never heave been that high if it wasn't.

Don't get me wrong, for a launch title, Resistance was a very good game. But lets be real here!!!

I own both consoles. Gears wasn't that great to begin with. The single player was good, but MP was crap. COD4 takes the crown of FPS up to this point IMO. Resistance Fall of man MP was better than Gears, and it looks like the MP in Resistance will continue to be that way supporting more players per map...etc. I think the whole thing about Gears is that it's style doesn't really fit the MP. I think MP should always be played in First Person Shooter view. I think Gears needs to break some serious ground to come up to match Resistance, but that's my opinion.

I probably won't be buying both games because I don't like Gears and I don't like playing FPS with the PS3 controller, but I definitely lean towards buying Resistance because I really enjoyed the first one. If Gears breaks some new ground as far as gameplay is concerned, then I will consider. Until then COD4 is King!

If you really want to compare sales, then an interesting point is, that R1 outsold Gears the last 50 weeks or so. Gears spiked (and won) the first 20 weeks (both compared on a global scale). Gears is dropping steadily to nowhere, where R1 is still selling, interestingly.

So, well, I am expecting Gears to outperform R2 in first day sales (install base ?), but R2 will do good, too. I am pretty sure.

I am also convinced the R2 will show off visually as well. G2 is pretty much known with a couple of improvements, sure. But R2 made a huge step forward compared to the first title.

Have u ever drank 7-up from a clear glass or bottle. Doesn't look as good as when u drink from green bottle. Same case here, the green tinted graphics are hiding the hideous, texture less characters and enviornment. The game will get from all fandroids sites and magz but in reality it looks like garbage dipped in green paint.
