2008 Will Be a Landmark Year for 360, Says Kim

At an event showcasing upcoming first-party releases, corporate VP of Microsoft Game Studios Shane Kim said that 2008 would be an even better year for the Xbox 360.

"What we're really trying to communicate is that this is going to be another landmark year for Xbox 360," Kim told GamesIndustry.biz.

"Mainly because we are really focused on the strategy of tremendous exclusive content. Titles like Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Banjo, et cetera. as well as the continuing leadership we have in the online space with Xbox Live."

When asked to clarify whether the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3 was winning in Europe, Kim said that it was a "horse race no matter what."

"I understand that Sony has declared leadership already. We'll let the data speak for itself," he replied.

It will be interesting to see how well NG2 sells. I know a lot of people who won't be getting the games as it is too much like DMC. Also I looked at the gamefaqs poll the other day and NG2 was the lowest on the list.

Don't forget Lost Odyssey which is a top quality JRPG along with Universe at War, Culdecpt Saga and Kingdom Under Fire (meh!) that were released earlier this year.

As for the horizon.

Well the 360 exclusives I'll most likely buy:

Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Banjo Kazooie 3, Viva Pinata 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Too Human, Left 4 Dead, APB, Age of Conan, Champions Online, Cry On, Infinite Undiscovery, Elveon, Dead Island, Huxley, Halo Wars, Sacred 2, Braid, Velvet Assassin, Battestations: Pacific, Dawn of Fantasy & Darwinia+.

Other 360 exclusives I'm not sure about:

Postal 3, Supreme Commander, Sabotage, Warhound, Possession, Warhammer: Battle March, Spectral Force 3, Magna Carta 2, Apocalypse Desire Next, Dungeon Explorer, Dungeon Hero & Operation Darkness.

And just for interest.

On PS3 the exclusives I'll be grabbing so far:

MGS4, GTR5, Resistance2, White Knight & LittleBigPlanet.

On Wii:

Boom Blox, Deadly Creatures, We Ski & de Blob.

On PC:

Starcraft II & Spore.

Nice list you made there. It truly shows the number of exclusives for the 360 although, some of those you posted are not due out this year or have been pushed back as of late. I do have to admit though, when reading through that list, I felt a bit disappointed since in that list is only a handful of games that remotely interest me. Maybe a title or two for purchase and a few for rent but looking at the titles and doing some research I have to say that many of them will not grace my 360. Thanks for the list though!

I agree with some of ur 360 list....(Fable 2, Infinity Discovery (looks BLEH besides CS, just want b/c for story),Gears 2, Ninja Gaiden 2)

Wii...I don't want a single game for until monster hunter comes out.

PC...I agree with Spore and Starcraft 2, and ill throw in some Warhammer Age of Reckoning

PS3...Resistance 2, Little Big Planet (prob most wanted game this year), Metal Gear Solid 4, Disgaea 3, White Knight Story, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, Socom Confrontation, Motorstorm 2, Haze (for the 4-player coop)

2 - bit of a let down...
Before i get flamed, let me clarify that i am a 360 owner through and through (which i guess will be reason enough for PS3 fanboys to flame me) and a proud one at that. I have had mine since launch with no signs of the RROD, at have no problems with the machine or its software. As we all know last holiday season was a fantastic time for 360 owners with more AAA games released that most of us could afford, however this year has been kinda lame. Obviously we've had GTA and Devil May Cry but thats about it. And looking forward we have some great titles coming but in terms of numbers we had more big releases last christmas than MS have planned for the whole of this year. Dont get me wrong, Im sure i will enjoy NG2, Gears2, Banjo3 and Fable2 but i honestly thought they would annouce more new "exclusive" titles at their gamers day. Im just a little dissappointed to be honest. Maybe they are saving it all for E3...or maybe they just dont have anything to annouce.

i kind of agree. i own both systems, i do like my 360 more ( you can check my history ) but ya, i was looking forward to some great new stuff pulled out the hat.

we have already seen so much on NG2 and a lot of the games. The only stuff really new was the Banjo and gears 2 stuff.

still, lets hope they are saving it for E3. There are a lot of games i remember hearing about when the systems launched which have just dropped off the radar.

I really want to hear about more new IP's, new concepts... a lot of these games just feel so much like the same old, same old.

ok, enough of this milling around... i just want a new KATOR game with all of the tech that has gone into force unleashed. it needs to be twice the size of oblivion in terms of content etc.

there, i am done.

actually, no iam not.. where are games like The Outsider, these are games they should be trying to nail as exclusives.

what with the perfect storm and all?

I'm not hating...and in fact I'm directing this towards all marketing and PR talk from all angles...DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE. That goes for Sony and Nintendo as well, but I'm pointing this out in particular because of all of the braggadocio from last year. Again, I thought 2007 was the landmark year...but that's the job of a PR rep, to say anything to make a case for your product. Can't really hate the man for that, but at least be a bit more creative, this is just blatant.

what blue dragon? dude your games are old news, your best exclusives are all shooters, halo hasent changed since #1, and it looks like the gears franchise is following in the same footsteps. masseffect (only the faces look good) by the way-you've just lost it exclusively. Orangebox is Fing wierd. bio shock is bio shock nothing special there. what? drakes fortune,GT5p,hotshots golf,hevenly sword. 4 games with a much wider variety then your 5 best exclusives. sony knows what we want.

dont hate on the golf game yo, tiger woods pga tour is a boring a$$ game, hots shots golf turned something dull and boring into something fun and worth playing, yea.....i do respect that. not to mention its been around since i was a kid and i had mad fun with those games. about that demo, i personally asked sony if i can give them 40 dollas to give me what they had done so far (its that good) dont for get that demo has more cars then GRIDS full game. so dont hate. ive taken that youve read the news lately? is that why your mad? grow up, and welcome to Sony's world.

So far on either the xbox 360 or ps3 the only game i would describe as "revolutionary" is Mass effect, everything else has the "been there, done that" stigma, lets have a look at this years exclusives on both consoles.

PS3 - Socom, played it on ps1 and ps2
PS3 - MGS4, played it on ps1 and ps2
PS3 - LBP here is something new and interesting
PS3 - Resistance 2, FPS which have been out since the likes of DOOM
PS3 - Motorstorm 2, racing game, enough said

xbox360 - Banjo 3, dont know enough about this to comment played on n64
xbox 360 - Ninja Gaiden 2 Hack and Slash played on xbox, ps1 ps2
xbox 360 - Gears 2 Reminds me of operation winback on ps2 and has been ripped off too many times already
Xbox 360 - too human, could be interesting providing the RPG elements stand out, otherwise its a hack and slash

What im saying is we need a whole new way of doing games instead of the same old formula, Mass effect tried this with the whole conversation thing and the RPG parts not been the "your turn my turn" rubbish.

I dont think people are getting what i am saying, i am not saying these games will be good or rubbish, i am not comparing who has the stellar exclusive line up, i am just trying to point out that the games havent really revolutionalised since ps1, for example when the likes of resident evil, tomb raider, mgs first came out, the ideas were new, fresh and innovative, you never saw the likes on the previous consoles, but in this generation there hasnt been that step up, the games are more or less the same but with nice crisp graphics in HD

Im 30 years old, my first gaming machine was the Atari 65xe (excluding the old pong games machine), i have owned every computer and console since then (apart from a ps3 which i will get in due course) so i know what i am talking about, when i said socom on ps1 i didnt mean the actual game but the genre.

no probs, i have kind of felt the same for a while... when you look back at everything that was announced when this gen started and look at what we have had so far.... not much has happened, the graphics have just got better...

There have just been a hand full of games whick seem like they have " started " something new. There are still a lot of games that should have been out first year and we are just starting to see them now and some still not due this year. We will have to see.

i am 28, maybe its just us... :-)

Yeah it sucks getting old, i still love playing games, more now than i did when i was younger but i find that sometimes when i play games i just dont get as submerged into them as i used to as everything is getting a bit too predictable, like you say though the next few years might show us something "new"

I'm a little confused cause i'm new here and though I know I am going to get the hate i'll still ask. Why is it every time there is a 360/PS3 article the opposing side always has to jump in and chant, "My system has better exclusives than yours." I mean come on people how old are we here? It's one thing to make the argument about who has better exclusives or whatever but man when I read some post on here some people sound like they're not old enough to be even on here. Seriously people lets just come up with better arguments other than the usual quip of "your console or game got pwn" and by the way whoever uses pwn (I hope you're 13 and under). The fact of the matter is better exclusives is determined by your preference for gaming. Some people may like gears 2 and banjo, while there may be another person who likes LBP and socom. Does this mean one selection is better than one? It's simply determined by what you like in gaming so making arguments is all well and fine but at the end of the day its useless because like food, we all will have a varity of tastes. A word towards the fanboys (and no i'm not one, in my 20's, I have a life, though I do enjoy some gaming every now and then, ain't nothing wrong with that)grow up. Don't care if you're 12 or 52. It just makes you look stupid. Like I said i'm new here and don't post very often but man sometimes people have to speak up and because I know so many of users on here are concerned about your "precious bubbles". I know i'm not going to get any agrees for what I am saying but trust me you clicking the agree or disagree button is the least of my concerns. Lets just try to show a little class and maturity. I still have game I have not finished. and there plenty of games that will keep me busy right into 2009. so am not to down about some game being pushed to 2009, plus gives them more time to polish up the game. GTA IV and more content in august that will take most of my time and still playing plenty of cod4 online.
