Itagaki: No More Ninja Gaiden After Part II

In an interview with Kotaku earlier today Team Ninja's Tomonobu Itagaki said that he doesn't plan on making any more Ninja Gaiden games for any platforms following the release of Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox 360.

"Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I'm not planing on making any other games in the series," Itagaki said through a translator. "So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise.

"I think we were able to achieve everything we wanted with this game so anything else would be extraneous."

When asked if he plans on making a "swan song" Ninja Gaiden title for the PlayStation 3, Itagaki replied " that would be ridiculous."

Just as long as people remember the Itagaki had nothing to do with NG:Sigma ... so even if he quits it doesn't necessarily mean the last version on the market.

That of course is not to say that it would ever happen but it has to be put out there.

1.1 - no kydrice..
NGS Was from TeamNinja, but was not made by itagaki, instead of 'porting' it, it was built from the ground up ; albiet with all the same stuff....like a remake..
but by someone else in Team ninja, Itagaki had NOTHING to do with Sigma, but he allowed one in his team to make Sigma for PS3.

With this guy I always get the feeling that he tries to act like Hideo Kojima, but fails.

Anyway, on topic:
I think it is a shame, Ninja Gaiden is the best game Team Ninja makes. It would be a shame if they didnt make anymore Ninja Gaiden games.

sell well, then expect a ninja gaiden sigma 2. and its also funny how itagaki acts like ninja gaiden 2 wouldnt be able to be made on the ps3, when in reality, it can be made on the ps3, there is nothing revolutionary about ninja gaiden 2 that we have seen, but the game will kick a$$ no doubt. I just wish devs like him would be more respectful and stop talking alot of crap when he knows damn well the xbox 360 and ps3 are about on the same level in graphics.

I can't wait to see what new things you are working on for the Xbox 360 in the future. I am also glad that you were able to realize your vision on the 360 and are satisfied with the end result.

if you guys have read many of his interviews, but he always says that. He said that after he made Dead or Alive 1,2, & 3. He said he felt Team Ninja had finally made the ultimate fighting game with Part 3, and than low and behold part 4 came out.

I'm all for new IP's but he has a habit of always saying that. Don't be shocked when Ninja Gaiden 3 is announced even if there is a new IP in between the time period.

I honestly hate his c*cky attitude towards everything. He acts as if he's the god of developers or something. He's nowhere near as good as Hideo Kojima, a man who's the opposite of Itagaki.

Yeah it would not surprise me if there was a Ninja Gaiden 3 despite what's been said. If NG2 sells well, I'm sure Itagaki find time to change his mind. lol :)

Wow, that seems kind of odd to me. I mean, it would seem like he would make Ninja Gaiden a trilogy.... but just ending the series at Ninja Gaiden 2 just seems kind of incomplete to me.

And the PS3 doesn't need a "Ninja Gaiden swan song" of a game either because PS3 gamers have God of War 3 and that's even better. It's obvious that he's sticking with Xbox 360 development.

I remember Itagaki stating that Ninja Gaiden was a franchise still in its infancy. I don't have the source but remember the article. Translations are often taken out of context and mistranslated. Perhaps he is alluding to the fact that there won't be another Ninja Gaiden on Xbox 360...or maybe there won't be a Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. If the game sells nearly as well as I expect it to (1 million plus), there is no way there won't be another Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden 3 on Xbox 720 FTW!!!

I am really glad that they are putting this game series to rest...

I never really liked it but I had always recommened it to other gamers since a friend of mine could not stop talking about it...

But I really Dislike Itagaki because in all the developer interviews... he always comes across as his shat does not stink....

With that said I am sure that NGII will be a smash hit...

Hes finally realized that...

Ninjas don't run into a group to fight (they die easily.)
Ninjas don't mix well in the future (with motorbikes etc...)
Ninjas don't wear leather (Ryu wanting to become a Dominatrix? ROFL)

So yeah, good decision my friend. xD

I played Ninja Gaiden 2 at vendors last week, and tbh i was very disappointed. Apart from different areas, its exactly the same as Ninja Gaiden sigma. Graphics, gameplay, enemys, everything identical. Not nearly as excited as i was 2 weeks ago :/
the microsoft guys at the booth could clearly see i was upset.
