Sony customers still waiting for free PS3s

Sony Bravia LCD TV buyers have been waiting for up to four months for the company to make good on its promise to give them a free PlayStation 3 games console.

Word of the delays comes days after smh.com.au revealed that customers taking part in Samsung's two-for-one LCD TV promotion - whereby buyers of a big-screen Samsung TV set were offered an extra smaller LCD for free - had been waiting up to five months for their bonus TV sets.

Between December 21 last year and January 28, Sony promised that anyone who bought a Bravia high-definition LCD TV set would receive a bonus PS3, as long as they had their receipt and could cite the TV's serial number.

1.1 - I'll approve it...but...
Like you I'm really suspicious of this. You would think that:

1) We would have heard about this before now and

2) that these people would have contacted Sony and, considering the stipulations of the offer, that after faxing the SN number of the TV and a copy of the receipt to Sony that a PS3 would arrive via UPS/FedEx within a week or so.

If this is seriously true then thats really crappy, but I'm going to go ahead and file this under "here-say" until something else shows up claiming it.

Beggars can't be choosers. Just wait, the damn thing will show up when it does.

Geeze. The internet gives every little female-dog a place to complain.

Yeah, I agree. There was news regarding this earlier when Sony announced shipment of 13 million PS3 units. They also mentioned 24,000 units given as part of their Bravia promotion.

i have to wonder what the deal is if this is true sony better give people what they pay for i hate it when a company acts like there is no issue and doesnt need to fix anything when its clearly staring them in the face

3 - This story is BS.
From the article:

"A reader, who did not want to be named, said he was told by Sony his bonus PS3 would be delivered "from May 12"."

So, if it was true, why would you want to hide your name?

4 - Why
on earth is this hard for some of you to believe, hell they did the same thing with the free bluray movies, you had to wait forever to get those things.

Sony is not some saint, they are a huge multinational corporation trying to maximize profits like MS and Nintendo. They got the free press for "giving away" free TVs, so why should they rush to actually do it now that no one is looking.

Actually, I think if there's any blame for the Blu Ray movies, it's the third party company that's handling all the shipments. I got mine, but I can't say the same for everyone.

Not that this is an untrue story, but SMH was caught last year printing a false story (or at least posting it online.) Remember the thing about Japanese people ordering poodles online and getting sheep and not knowing they were sheep? It was completely false, and SMH started the rumour flying.

Any paper can screw up.

8 - Not surprising
If really wanted a PS3 though, I would have just bought it. And you know what, I most certainly did. Beats waiting months to get it for free, unless you just don't really mind the wait.
