Oh you see that ps3 totally pwns. lol

360 had a 22% boost. While ps3 sold more, the cheaper price of the 360 might give it more of a boost in the GTA4 struggle especially in the UK. Ps3 should probably drop price in the UK closer to MGS4 release.

Is it necessary to remind yourself about that each week? I think that point is over saturated by now. But on another note I can't take the Wii seriously at all so I don't care what place it is.

However, PS3's sales reflect the GTAIV build up to launch, which was expected even though Microsoft ran the GTAIV ads with their console, it was still outsold.

Also, what the hell is going on with 360's software numbers? UEFA is the top selling 360 game at #29 with 20,000 copies??

Vgchartz are nothing more than the fantasyland delusions of an Xbox fan. Anyone who frequents other major gaming forums remembers the guy from a year or two ago and his attempts at passing off bogus sales numbers and his eventual perma-banning.

Vgchartz is running into the problem now where their fake 360 sales numbers are bumping into the hard ceiling confirmed Microsoft shipment numbers.

VGchartz 360 numbers require there to be twice as many Wiis sitting on store shelves worldwide compared to 360s...

Going by how far off Vgchartz pads out PS3 vs 360 sales numbers for Europe the actual sales numbers are most likely around:

PS3: 120-130k
360: 50-60k

With worldwide:

PS3: 12.5 million
360: 17.5 million

and the PS3 passing the 360 in worldwide installed base around the end of 2008.

I guess you didnt notice but 9 of those games in the top 10 are on Nintendo consoles.Then the Wii sold 1.6 million units of software. and the Ds sold almost 650k. Adding up the all the other consoles barely beats out the DS. Also very few 3rd parties are actually putting any effort at all into those Wii games they are releasing so its their own fault for the poor sales.

When the Xbox 360 sales were shown to be greater than the PS3, the Xbox fanboys claimed VGCharts to be accurate. When the sales dropped bellow the PS3's, they then claimed the website to be false and full of inaccuracies. So you need to ask yourself, does it matter? Will knowing these numbers help me sleep at night? We know that both consoles are selling well and that yes, the PS3 will in fact outpace the 360 simply because it has the largest fan following between the two consoles. It's inevitable but does that make the console any better? Not really, they both are great and if you have the chance to own both, you should, no matter what the charts tell ya.

4 - Nintendo and Sony doing there thing in Europe

Well, it seems as if Nintendo and Sony are basically owning the European market. However, I do know that the PS3 has been selling better in Europe anyways, so I'm not that surprised. There wasn't even one single Xbox 360 software title on the list.

GT5 Prologue sold over a million copies in Europe just in pre-orders alone and that says a lot.

It's just amazing that the PS3 is STILL outselling the Xbox 360 in Europe even after Microsoft dropped the price on the Xbox 360 in Europe about a month or so ago, yet Sony didn't even drop the price on the PS3 in Europe!!!!

Although the figures wont be accurate im sure they give the trend of how the consoles are selling, and just check the wii out, all of those potential ps3/xbox 360 owners defecting to the dark side, i really do hope all of the innovation and quality titles dont follow suite, otherwise it's death to gaming as we know it

My kids play the Wii and I play the PS3. I have seen very little on the Wii that would interest an adult. Nintendo's customers tend to be different from those that would buy a 360 or PS3.

I am amazed at the Wii's success, I have yet to see or play anything on it yet that impresses me.

There are far more people out there who find the wii more appealing that the PS3, hence the sales figures.

Consider this, the graphics point is mute. My PC will spank the PS3 any day when it comes to graphics, so it isn't about graphics. Not to mention that the only games that I would care about are also available on PC (thus making the need of a PS3, well, not really a need...), and if you are like me and already have a Blu-Ray player, then why would you need a PS3?

The wii on the other hand has Zelda... That alone, justifies me getting one, just like "_isernt_name_of_game_her e_" justifies you getting a PS3. It just so happens that there are more people like me.

sony missed a trick by getting rid of the 60gb. sales are good but i think they would have been a lot better in all regions if the 60gb was still around. i wonder if the 60gb will be re-introduced in europe and japan.

well if you look back at the past the leading console does end up being a target for poorly made and rushed out games, just look at the wii. I'd rather a console try chasing them with better made products and games, and for one am thankful microsoft joined the console war just to heat the competition up and give a run for their money.

12 - For all of you that say VGChartz isn't accurate...

You might want to stop by the site and read about their methodology. The "numbers" on the site are an estimate. Just like NPD. They come from a number of sources including a handful of smaller retailers. In addition, the numbers ARE adjusted going forward when "official" announcements come from the manufacturers in the form of financial statements and official PR about shipped consoles. For each region outside the U.S., there are companies like media track, famitsu, media create, and so on that release weekly numbers which also are factored in. In a nutshell, it is a collection of data from a number of different sources and if you go back historically, you'll find that the numbers are almost all inside a 10% margin of error. VGC has become more and more accurate as time goes by and is now being referenced by a number of outside sources. Take a moment or two and read the methodology and do a bit a research yourself before dismissing them as complete inaccurate. No sales numbers will ever be perfect -- they are ALL estimations based on sampling. The only way to get a perfect number would be to track every single console sold in every single store. Take from it what you will, but VGC data has proven to be pretty good in the big picture and seems to be constantly getting better.

Actually, a 10% margin of error on 80K is not that big of a deal. I guarantee you that anything NPD puts out is statistically no better than +-5%. I don't know NPD's confidence levels they shoot for in their statistical methods but I'd be willing to bet that it is to reach a sales number that is +- 5% of actual at a 95% confidence ratio.

8,000 on 80,000 in sales in not that big of a deal and over time pluses and minuses tend to cancel each other out.

If you are going to only go by the "official" releases from MS and Sony, then you aren't getting the real truth, either... Shipped vs. Sold, In transit, stock on the shelf, etc., are all things to be considered. NPD and VGC are focusing strictly on consoles in customers hands and don't account for in-transit, store shelves, etc. That is really the metric we all want to know anyway isn't it?

Lastly, MS, Sony, Nintendo, etc. don't know any better than NPD/VGC about how many of their consoles are actually in customers hands. That's why they pay NPD such a large sum of money in the first place -- to get RETAIL sales data... which just so happens to be an ESTIMATION based on statistical methods designed to estimate sales from sample data...

You might also consider that VGCs numbers when "new" each week are certainly going to have a larger margin of error, but as additional information is gathered, the data are adjusted. There is a great sales database over there that is pulled from historical sales information that allows the user to look at data from a bazillion different angles to spot trends and such. It's pretty cool to have all that data in one place and I'm not aware of it available (for free) anywhere else...

Ditto, Shovelware I believe they call it, but heaven forbid someone say something bad about Nintendo, they're popular so they must be right.

Its not good for the industry at all that its dominated by non games, but the scary thing is, what if Sony and M$ follow suit? What if everyone decides advancing hardware isn't worth it next gen, all you need to do it recycle this gens machine whack a gimmick on it like a funky controller or a virtual headset and make a heap of mini game compilations. Anyway, thats worse case senario, best is Nintendo will just keep sucking.

You can clearly see from the CHARTS that NO x360 game ever appears in the top charts of all those EU regions

NOT even in the TOP 20 of FRENCH charts

then how come x360 sells 60% of what PS3/wii sells in those regions???

Micromania for instance didnt even advertise the GTA4 x360 version. same goes to all retailers of GERMANY/FRANCE/ITALY and SPAIN

You will never find ANY X360 game/console in the retailer/ TOP CHART of any EU country except AMAZON UK/DE/FR ---which is used by Americans living abroad
