Wanna Save Big on a New HDTV? It Will Pay to Wait Till May

According to HD Guru:

"In a few days the price of flat panel TVs will drop considerably. Why? Because Sony wants to regain its number one market share, so its drastically dropping the prices of its first new 2008 1080p flat panel models in order to pick up more sales volume.

Want more good news? According to a well-placed industry sources, you can expect Sony's major competitors (LG, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba) to react by dropping their respective prices too (in May).

Here is an example. Sony's latest 40" 1080p (1920×1080) HDTV the KDL-S4100 will have a (suggested minimum price) of just $1199 making a full $500 less than its lowest priced predecessor.

How about a 46" 1080p set? The new KDL-46S4100 will be priced at $1599 (representing a $400 drop). This is Sony's "advertised price". The big box retailers Circuit City and Best Buy have been dropping below this minimum advertised price (MAP) 10% or more, only a week or two after other 2008 HDTVs have debuted, so don't be surprised to see these Sony prices cut quickly by the big box retailers."

3 - Yeah, I'm seeing a ton of new tvs from Sony and Samsung
With very HIGH contrast ratios, newer models, bigger, and cheaper. NOW is the time to buy an HD tv.

Check out this 46" 1080p Samsung.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsu...

"30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio: up from 15,000:1 on 2007 models (15,000 on 32-inch and 37-inch models) (Learn more)"

Huge f***in steal!

I wonder how Sony's KDL-46S4100 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV will go up against Samsung's LN46A550 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV. There both around the same price with the Sony one actually being cheaper this time with out the discounts. 0_o

3.2 - WAIT
till summer fellas. Especially if you live in the US. Those stimulus checks are coming out and every company is vying for your hard earned dollar. Think about it, consumers have an excess of cash to just BLOW, so every retailer has to put their best foot forward. Even now at circuit city you can see deals where you either get a year or 36 months INTEREST FREE. As long as you have a steady job, you can afford it no problem without any debt.

June 12th (mgs4) is when i plan on dropping the big load.

im still a little pissed about the timing of my plasma purchase. i bought my 42" samsung a while ago but its 1080i. at the time i bought it, 1080p was more expensive so i chose the 1080i one. oh well i still love how it looks, but if the prices keep dropping like this, i just might have to get a new one!

6 - The problem is....
Sony needs to fix the smearing of dark colors during fast motion on their set. Sharp needs to correct the banding on their sets. Samsung has pretty much the same problem as Sony since they share panel production. Right now LCD sets look good until you start to notice all the flaws. Contrast ratios and all these other "features" mean nothing if they can't get the basics right.

7 - S Series Sony
Just remember the S Series LCD's from Sony are the lowest end. They do not have as good as PQ as the V and W nor have all the bells and whistles.

OH, and avsforum has been on the case for a while now ...

I probably won't be buying a new TV this year but maybe next year i'll make the jump to 1080p. I have a 50 inch 720p Samsung DLP in the living room that i play my games on and a 1080i panasonic plasma in my room that i watch sports and my dvd's on. I still need another surround sound system and probably a nice new sectional couch for the living room. Though hearing the pricing on these things are dropping is a good thing to hear. Specially since by the time i pick up a 1080p HDTV the prices will be around $1400 for a good quality ones probably.

i want a 60 inch though since i already have a 42 still sitting here at home, after getting a taste of the new maps in METAL GEAR ONLINE i couldn't help but plan on getting a huge tv just for MGS4 this june.

but of course im looking for a pioneer elite, samsung or a panasonic 60 most definitely or... just a 50. or a bravia of course that is if it comes in this size.

and no i don't have money problems either as i already have two hd tv's and a good surround sound system to complement one of them and a 7.1 system coming soon as well, also a ps360 elite sitting pretty in the middle of all this.

but yeah in all seriousness i want a 60, 65 inch elite or panasonic or samsung anyone here have any idea where i could find one other than in best buy?
