Grand Theft Auto IV May Help Sony Gain Ground

Grand Theft Auto 4, the biggest, meanest, raunchiest video game of the year, looks set to help Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 console gain new ground in its turf war with Microsoft's Xbox 360.

It's already a given that the newest chapter in Take-Two Interactive Software Inc's hit criminal franchise will be the biggest game of 2008, with up to $400 million expected in sales in its first week.

But Grand Theft Auto 4, which rampages onto store shelves next Tuesday, will also be an important new weapon in the running battle between the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360.

Support your system by all means but the viral you spread shows you have some sort of issues going on. Here's an idea, why don't you play you ps3 instead of convincing everyone NOT to play 360. Your not another troll hired by sony to go on forums and blogs are you?

But that's only in graphics. Everything else is the same. I own both consoles, and I am getting it for the 360 because I really don't care about the tiny bit of better graphics. To me, XBOX Live, My friends (I have more on the XBOX than on PSN), Custom sound tracks, and exlusive content sealed the deal for me, so one aspect of the game goes to the PS3 while many other, for me, go to the 360.

Oh how things have changed when everyone expected the 360 to pull a huge majority of the GTA IV sales and be another reason to buy a 360. Now it seems its another reason to buy a PS3.

you to a reliable source that Infact this guys
says the PS3 has better shadows and less jaggy
then the XBOX 360, also notice that these Guess
of Rockstar played GTA4 for 10 hours straite, not
saying you can't run it for 10 hours on the 360
but maybe it has something to do with the RROD.

This is an awesome article and does give some
truth to the fact that the PS3 version is better.

I agree with the fact that some more people may be urged to buy PS3 than 360's, because a lot of people will say, "Well, I can get GTAIV and my PS3 now, and then I can play Metal Gear Solid 4 in month and a half and all my favorite franchises down the road." However, in my mind, the actual 360 version of the game will sell more hands-down simply because of the differenc in size of the install base in the US. Hardware, Sony wins. Software, Microsoft wins.

360 version is gimped

"If I were interested in getting this game, and if I had a PS3... it'd be for the PS3. A buddy of mine who works at Game let me test it for about half an hour back in the stockroom on the 360, and DAMN!... The low framerates! I'm amazed how they allow games be released like this, it wasn't as bad as Mass Effect but... DAMN! I could be standing at a spot to make sure there were no major streaming of textures, sound etc. going on, spin around, and each time I faced a bunch of skyscrapers and/or a big group of cars the framerate would drop to the ~20's... Made it really annoying and sometimes almost difficult to steer the car."

I've seen some glitches in the 360 version, in some live feeds, for some reason Niko walks through the wall sometimes. :(, not sure with the PS3 version, as I haven't really seen a live feed with great quality.

As I said it before, GTA4 as a software will sell more on 360 just because of its installbase. While it will help move more PS3 then 360s. Everything will be clear by the end of next week.

I agree on that statement as obvious math would show that a larger install base would equal greater software sales. As a dual console owner (not that it is irrelevant) but just stating I am in no parts or will ever be a fanboy, I believe it will push more hardware sales for the PS3 opposed to the 360 simply because people are more familiar with the title on the ps brand and plus "in my opinion" and I do reiterate "in my opinion" even though microsoft and sony have great exclusives lined up this year, it appears that sony has slightly more, especially the kind which makes people who have a ps2 make the transition i.e socom confrontation. No need for disagrees people just an opinion.

I said the same thing. Us Aussies must think alike.

GTA will definately move more PS3's and I've predicted 2:3 in favour of XB on software but...... I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 gets closer than we think on SW. Sure they have the bigger userbase, but its really not that big, not as big as they're always making out, when you consider Sonys numbers are SOLD, while M$ are SHIPPED and the take out the broken consoles there no way they're more than 4 million apart, probably less. Do the math.

All I'm saying is PS3 could surprise us in SW for GTA, especially now we all know its actually slightly better.

I think the delayed release of GTA4 has hurt Microsoft immensely...

Six months ago when it was to be originally released all the momentum was in Xbox 360's corner and PS3 was really struggling, fast forward to the present day and it's a total reversal with all the momentum behind the PS3 and Xbox 360 seems to have almost run out of steam.

if it got released in November when the 360 was getting all the good press, it would benefit the 360 more

but now that the media's eye is on the PS3, the brand recognition will kick in and push the PS3's momentum to new heights

it will help it go strong until MGS4 and then things will start to snowball

its exactly how the PS2 began and the same thing will happen again

But in my humble opinion I see it as the ps3 simply catching up in quality. Where the 360s library is surely affluent, I belive the sony's library is merely catching up to the competition. I for one respect both sony and microsoft as they both are putting out quality games and exclusives. It's great to see business competition as it allows both companies to try and develop great products for its customers. If it drives sales for sony then good for them. I'm sure microsoft will also see some kind of boost in sales but perhaps not as great of boost in hardware sales opposed to sony. In my opinion, i'm no patcher so I have no crystal ball.

It will help each system sale extra consoles. We can all speculate which one it will sell more on, but realy to me, all I care about is enjoying the game. As I do not own any stock in either company. What is amazing is that we are even talking about it selling on a console that is not PS/Sony. I never throught I would play it on another system.

Nationally, 360 will sell more copies - globally PS3 will.

Anyhow, this is the game that is going to make ppl buy a next gen console. Now that price isn't an issue for PS3, it isn't that much more expensive than 360, more people are going to buy a PS3 because of this game then ppl who are going to get a 360 because of this game.

W/ the PS3 you get a blu ray player, a bigger HDD, lithium ion battery controller vs. AA battery, wifi support, psp connectivity, web browser, and overall better quality(runs silent, no power brick, no rrod, free online, etc.) You think ppl aren't going to spend an extra 50$ to get all those features?

Not to mention w/ MGS4 on the horizon, thats a double whammy. 2 killer apps for one console months apart? That was smart of Sony to drive Hardware sales.

Oh yeah, and less ppl will get the 360 seeing as how it is experiencing "shortages" - lmao.

Honestly, by the end of this year, who the hell won't want a PS3? GTA IV, MGS4, LBP, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Wardevil, Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, God of War III etc. all on the horizon into 2009. Plenty of damn reasons to own a PS3.

360 people, why is it such a bad thing to own both consoles? Since you guys are such "HARDCORE" gamers, then you would only be able to enjoy the fact that "Exclusives" don't mean jack to you because you'd be able to play them all!

Gave bubbles to you as I do agree with most of what you said. As a dual console owner myself I appreciate both brands of exclusives, but the same argument can be made for 360 only owners. 360 owners have some great exclusives such as gears, ninja gaiden and so forth coming up this year. Plenty of reasons to own a 360 as well. I mean in my belief if you can afford and want to, you should own both consoles as you can experience both brands and what they have to offer. If you prefer one over the other based upon gaming preference and what that console has to offer then that is fine also. But for the world of me I cannot understand why people are so defensive toward one brand of machinery which I belive and I may be wrong have no kind of stock in? If people do then that's another matter. But people a word of advice is lets all try to be mature about it and realize that both companys have great exclusives coming and nothing is wrong with playing them both. Despite what some people may want you to believe.

at the end of the day all of this is fun..having the little rivalry between ps3 fans and 360 fans...sure it can get annoying but its all fun...we are all gamers at heart otherwise we wouldnt be on this website...we all comment on any news whether its a preview of gears of war or a preview of metal gear solid 4 we all comment on both because we are all gamers because i guarantee if any ps3 fan was given the chance to own a 360 and play a game like gears of war 2 they'll sure as hell will take it and vice versa with any 360 fan...bottom line is...by the time this generation of gaming ends...everybody who was a single console owner is going to own all consoles...why because we are all gamers

You're right on the money there toastman. I'm new here and i've seen fanboyism and it's reached new heights. As a dual console owner, I do appreciate what both microsoft and sony have to offer. I see no reason why if i only owned the ps3, that I would not play gears of war if i had the privilege to because it was on the xbox. Great game in my opinion, of course this is my taste and may not be others. Heck I liked heavenly sword and I saw it get a little bashing from some reviewers, but like you said we're all gamers. I've been gaming since the atari. I'm in my 20s now and i've owned numerous consoles from the sega, nintendo, sony and now microsoft brand. Truly each console has something good and innovative to offer whether it be wii sports, little big planet, or fable. Maybe it's my age though I feel I am by no means old, but some people just need to grow up and realize that fanboyism really just makes us as gamers look silly. It's one thing to prefer a brand, but it's quite trivial to bash a brand based upon no real fact or honest judgment. My humble opinion of course.

I maybe the exception. I am a PS3 only and I will stay that way. Not because I hate the 360 but because I simply do not have the time to play everything I want on the one console. I have four children, a wife, and a uber-hyper dog. I like gaming but it is only entertainment and I can not justify spending that much time or resources on gaming. I will admit, however, that I look at games such as Gears and Bioshock and I am a little envious, but I am totally satisfied with my choice of consoles.

When Christmas comes around, and those who havn't gone next gen yet will run into an "extremely" hyped Gears 2 and exclusive 360 GTA IV DLC. This may help push a few PS3's in the next couple of months, but by the end of the year it's going to be all 360.

But at the same time one might ask themselves a simple question and this goes for any brand. Those people who say bought resistance 1 are probably going to be the same people who say buy resistance 2. Which leads me to believe (opinion not fact) that those people who bought Gears1 will also buy Gears 2. Not saying that it will not boost consoles as I believe the software sales will be off the charts. Nothing in the gta4 range but a good 4-5mil it might see in a 1.5-2 years. I believe it has the ability to move consoles but not as much as gta4 will move consoles for both microsoft and sony. Good year for gamers I must say. Good to be dual console owners or whatever brand is of your preference.

ways though, Our Local Gamestop has more PS3 pre-orders, yesterday
we went to pre-order GTA4 for the PS3, he said he has had a couple
calls for the 360 and several for the PS3.

He went on to say that we can pick it up monday at midnight
if we want, but we are just going to pick it up Tuesday morning.

Walked past EB yesterday... There are GTA4 signs and PS3 boxes every where. The only 360 logo i saw was down the bottom right of the posters. You barely see it. I only noticed it because i looked for it. I dont know if this is a normal thing but i see this being huge for sony.
