1 - How can you already have extra content ready, when game isn't even out?
Are effing kidding me, they already have Downloadable Content already done? The game hasn't even game out yet.

Does anybody see whats wrong with this picture?

THE CONTENT SHOULD OF CAME WITH THE GAME.
EA is really releasing a 90% complete game saving the extra 10% for future profits. Wow.

I can't wait until EA starts charging for Patches, PS3 rumble upgrades, 1080i upgrades...etc.

Boycott EA.

1.1 - @Omegasyde....
Given the weapons for purchase are already on the disc (as it appears they are) it makes me think there will be one universal code to unlock.... which means within an hour of this game hitting the market...that code will be up on the web.

I don't know about that...

I.E. The last Need For Speed had a unlockable cheat in which you could buy off XBL and PSN. It wasn't a code it was an actual patch so you could automatically unlock content from the get go.

I was cool with that since A) I didn't have the game and B) it was just an option since you could still unlock the cars from actually playing the game.

If EA does do the code thing, like Ubisoft did with Rainbow 6 Las Vegas 2 that would be idea. However If you look at Battlefield 2 for the PC when it came out, you actually had to buy extra stuff just to get ranks and to play on certain servers (large scale).

What happened to where you buy a game for 50~60$ (USD) and you get dedicated servers, free patches and everyone once in a while a free handout.

It seems like only Bungie (with Halo) and Inconito (Warhawk) do this now. If only the BBB would fine EA with outstanding fines would this "paying extra for stuff that should come with the game"
nonsense would stop.

2 - I might not buy this because of this..............
This is just wrong. Plain and simple. You pay for this, next game you`ll be paying for helicopter use and vehicals, grenades etc.

**If** I do get this, I will not be D/Ling the weapons.

I would advise you to do the same.

Just be buying this game you are feeding the greedy monster known as EA.

I can't wait until Madden 09 where you have to pay extra for a pro-bowl game or to create-a-player.

2.2 - This is the very reason
I refuse to buy Burnout Paradise, all the DLC you have to pay for that should have been there in the beggining. EA can go f*ck themselves I'm not that stupid to pay for it.

I'm not gonna boycott EA for this, thats just childish. Theres only 1 company that I refuse to buy there games, and no its not EA. Its Namco Bandai

3 - Weapons really don't matter
After playing the beta, you do earn your way up the ranks, unlocking items like COD4, so it does require some gaming skills to play. The weapons really don't help you a lot considering your getting blown up all over the map by tanks and mortars. Being a battlefield fan since day one the gold edition will be worth it. Can't see any other FPS games that will compare to this experience for the rest of the year..

sorry, but offering better weapons for pay completely warps the competition.

FPS are defined by player skill winning over other players skill on a even battlefield. How can you compete when one side has sticks and stones and the other side has tanks and MG's ?

Selling better weapons for cash is the DEATH of a competitive fps game. You could also go and offer GOD-mode and unlimited ammo while you are at it. EA blew it this time, before we all knew they where greedy mofos, but now we know they traversed the line into lunacy.

Microsoft should not allow EA to do this. Simply the thought of this ruins the general idea of what DLC should be on the 360. Horse armor in oblivion was bad enough, then EA came along and has a sleu of terrible DLC. These "microtranscations" and "content already on disk" are just slap in the face to gamers everywhere. DLC isn't something that is meant to be made available the day the game ships. It meant to be something to add on into the game months after it ships, to extend it's life and add some more variety. Sure, some of it is overpriced for the content you get, like the Halo 3 map packs (oohh, three maps for 10 dollars, ya), but at least they make this premium content freely available later on. All of these little packs just keep fragmenting the player base. So, 10% of players have packs A and B let's say, another 10% only have A and another 10% only have B, while the other 70% didn't feel like paying for a few extra maps which should have been made freely available. Guess which maps you are going to end up playing most of the time. You guessed it, the stock maps.

Now, this weapon deal is just bogus. Charging players for new weapons to use against other players without this content is a big scam. I for one will not be buying this game simply out of principle, which is a real shame since it looks amazing. EA's greed is just getting to be too much for me.

The only time I don't really overly mind DLC released on the same day is when it is made freely available, like what GRAW 2 did with that throwback level. Sure, it could have been made available on disk but it introduces gamers to the idea of downloadable content, which in itself isn't so bad. You need an HDD, but whatever.

Here's my opinion on what should be made free and what they should charge for.

Free
- small, bonus items like new weapons and the like
- small map packs
- small side quests in main game

Charge
- large map packs (like 6-10 new maps, not just 3, jeeze)
- expansion packs (like you see on the PC, like C&C 3's new one)
- that's about it
- all those picture packs etc... that I think should be included with the game but I won't buy anyway so I don't really care

Should not be allowed on XBL (not free)
- unlocking ANY CONTENT THAT IS ALREADY ON THE DISK YOU CHEAP BUGGERS (I love CAPS, that means you EA)
- unlocking in-game cheats (I'm talking to you EA)
- small, microtransactions (one new plane for 400 MS points, gimme a break ACE Combat guys)

Microsoft, raise your standards. XBL is starting to get a little ridiculous.

PS (and we need cheaper, larger HDDs so people can actually have the free content).

I guess I'm just really used to the way it's done on the PC. Like back when Call of Duty came out, virtually every time they patched that game (I think there was like 3-4 big patches) it seemed like it got a new map. And you knew you would get to actually use it since everyone has an HDD, the patches were pretty much mandatory, and so everyone was on the same playing field. Same thing with UT, Q3, C&C games (didn't Red Alert 2 have like 10 free map packs straight from EA, whoa EA, wow) etc... But, the differences came when you went out and bought a retail expansion pack. Now, that usually meant content worth paying for, since you usually got a lot more out of it. That's what I'm used to, and that is what I think real DLC should be like. With the 360, we should be able to skip the retail for our expansion packs and just get them off live. Any little addons should be free, and we all should have HDDs. The arcade model is really only targeted at people who aren't on Live. At least, it seems that way to me.

6.2 - Really?
You think MS is going to care about this???? It's just money in their pocket, dude. If they really cared, this wouldn't have happened on XBL. But it will, PSN included. That's just the way it is. So, I say, get the game, not the weapons. I'm not making DICE pay for EA's crap, as we shouldn't pay for EA's crap, either.

I know it's just money in their pockets. And I don't mind them making money of DLC, but come on, even microsoft has got to have some kind of standards. Stuff like this just shows how much they truly appreciate their customers. I don't mind paying good money for a good game, but not if they think I'm an idiot and will go and buy every little microtransaction that comes out, no thank you.

Truth is, I bet DICE didn't even want to do this, EA probably just said "That's the way it is, do it". Damn.

There may be one way around this. Everyone still buys the game but nobody downloads the extra weapons. I mean nobody. Everybody out there who buys this game does not purchase a single microtransaction already on the disk thanks EA weapon. EA might get the message that their customers aren't stupid and stops these shannigans. (Try convincing the fanboys to do this though, there is an undertaking).

Gamers should definitely protest against this. This is simply not acceptable. Next thing we know we will be charged for sex in Mass Effect 2.

Didn't EA end up buying Bioware right? So, it probably will happen like that, yeah.
