Playstation Brand Outsells All Competition Combined

Torrence Davis from The Bitbag writes, "Playstation continues to dominate and is doing it right for 2008. They outsold the competition combined with a total of 296,000 PS3's sold in the month of January. That's 17% higher than Microsoft. PSN had a total of 7.9 million downloads which topped Decembers 6.6 Million. I'm sure Microsoft will answer with their numbers by tomorrow."

well the wii is last gen in terms of graphics. The ps3 and 360 are juggernauts when it comes to features and graphics, for this the wii does not compare. however i can see your point that this battle is mainly between the ps3 and 360 mainly because of the audience nintendo is trying to aim at, but you cannot ignore the fact that nintendo does exist.

It's my impression that gamers aren't satisfied with Wiis because of the lack of games.non-gamers and casuals get wiis while gamers get 360s and PS3 or upgrade their PC. I therefore don't see why the wii should be thought of as in competition with the other consoles. It doesn't have any competition at all, which is why Nintendo is free to overcharge it so much.

Haha thats not really why my nose really bled, of course. It is funny though.

I have a feeling MS is going to have shortages for a while. Like the rest of the 360's life. Now that the ps3 is becoming accepted into the mainstream, whats to stop it from becoming another ps2? Nothing.

18 - Why would MS have shortages
I checked a few outlets here locally, All have PLENTY in stock. They are in stock at amazon, circuit city, best buy. Granted these numbers are for Jan, I doubt two weeks will make this kind of difference.

The only model facing a shortage is the Elite. I think we all know why as well....MS was planning to announce the upgraded elite sku with built in HD DVD at CES and got burned bad by Warners announcement for Blu Ray.

need's to drop the price of 40gb to 299$ (noo bundles needed) and price the 160gb(future) at 399$ (with DualShock3). They need to do this near the release of GTAIV and before MGS4.

Than the numbers will SKy ROCKET.

Good going for Sony. Looks like 08 is starting out pretty dark strong. With the release of DMC4 on PS3 and Xbox 360 I don't know if February will show the same detail, but perhaps Sony can keep it going for another month and hopefully fight the good fight for the whole year. As a PS3 owner I'm kinda hoping they keep the ball rolling.

As for 360 shortages I did a 200 mile radius store search for JUST Gamestop for Atlanta, Birmingham, New York, and Los Angeles using the zip code finder. At least 80% (guesstimated number but I'm pretty close on the stats) have a 4+ number by the store name and location.

And that was just the Xbox Pro. Yeah, I know that might not be an accurate telling of a situation but those are 4 major cities and each have plenty in stock....and it was just gamestop.

Basically, I'm just saying that the news of "supply constraints" comes strangely close to the date of NPD release numbers, and Microsoft was pretty quick to throw out a statement when they weren't really provoked to do so.

360 isnt as GREAT a gaming machine as xbox fans would have everyone believe.
the 360 hardware is JUNK
the 360 uses a LAST GEN storage medium
the 360 hardware is inferior in about everyway to the PS3
the PS3 does have the future movie format BUILT IN
the PS3's lineup for the next 2 years IS HUGE and the 360's cannot compete with it.
the HARDWARE+ SOFTWARE lineups for the next few years for the PS3 is MILES ahead of the 360.
this is just the beginning.
people are looking to a next-gen machine and the are finding sony as the answer to that need. Now that people are picking up HD TV's left and right they look at Blu-ray players and find a cheap one with the ps3.
PS2 owners see all the games coming out this year for the ps3 and are deciding to buy a PS3 for games such as mgs, kz2, ff, gt, lbp, and GTA4.
The future is bright for the ps3.

Is anybody really surprised that a Playstation product is set to do well and possibly set records? Sony not like Sega with a up and down track record with their hardware. Ken may be crazy but he did build to of the most dominant consoles to date. Props to sony! I really wanted to cheer on MS.I loved Dead Rising and Gears and was my first next gen console But sadly when my 360 RROD on me that was game over for me. Bad form MS Maybe next Time.

Now they are reporting that Sony is "clawing back". They are only trying to gain respect back... because the hate campaign failed.

The RRoD and HD-DVD failure ensured this. If the XB360 had HD-DVD standard, was a year early, and did not have the massive RRoD and disk scratching problems, then it would be over and Sony would be in last place.

Good study for the business people of tomorrow... Don't release a product if it is not ready... MS is now reaping the seeds of their over eagerness. But then... they had to try at least.
