Looks like PS3 had plenty of stock hence the NPD expected numbers being so off for the others.

EDIT: Stop Dissagreeing with me even the site where this info came from has Edited the info mentioning supply issues.. sheesh. Doesn't take an idiot to figure out people have been complaining about not being able to find the 360 SKU they wanted for weeks.

WHY is there a 360 shortage exactly? When has M$ EVER had this problem besides launch? Shortages aren't due to sales, since they're lower than the PS3.

Microsoft knew the NPD data and so they preempted it with an obvious release statement. There were no 360 shortages...that's bollocks. Remember Sony's "stock constraints" for the PS3 last year...yuh right.

BTW 360 January sales are the same as last year.

Who cares what MSFT says its all over the god dam Net that people can not find the type of 360 they wan't twist all you wan't. Sure MSFT is actaully explaining in advance due to the numbers being lower than normal when they don't usaully talk untill after the fact.

Calm down man. You seem a little upset that the 360 got outsold. Even if there are stock shortages for the 360 the PS3 did outsell it right? And if the stock shortages are real when the next set of NPD numbers are released the 360 should sell more than the PS3 because the shortages would have been fixed by your logic, right?

BEFORE the numbers came out the word was that only one SKU of X360 was hard to find (and the SAME was for the 80Gb PS3 SKU but nobody wants to admit to that). I have no problems walking to any store in my city and finding X360's and PS3's (just the 40Gb PS3 and the comparable X360 version) but I admit there are no Wiis.

First the people scream "Wait for NPD" then when NPD comes out and shows the sales they have excuses <sigh>.

POG you're so predictable, sony posts better numbers and your on here shouting SHORTAGES whenever microsoft themselves said the shortage is only on the elites. I work at best buy and can admit that we havent had an elite shipped to us since before christmase I dont know why but surely if they were producing them we would at least get a couple, hell we get drop shipments of wii's every week. We get pros every week and sell maybe one out of the 5 we get so we're stocking up on pros. Add to this the fact that we've had 3 arcade units since christmas and sonys sales make sense. I sold 5 ps3's this week alone at my store..... Soo RRoD really is hurting microsoft.. So POG after all of those anti ps3 posts you've made over the past two months all I have to say is, damn does it hurt? Its gotta sting just a little..

5.1 - Even though it outsold it this month in NA
that doesn't mean it's even with the 360 in terms of hardware sold to date. Meaning ... if the PS3 was all over the software charts, the 360 would be in really bad shape. Percentage wise, PS3 users buy close to the same amount of video games as the 360 owners.

The crap about shortages is absolute nonscense too. Forcasting prevents shortages. A company the size of MS should never have these problems except during launch times. The 360 has been around for 2 years. It should be rather streamlined as far as production is concerened. lol shortages in the largest 360 area is total damage control.

With these numbers, Japans numbes and Europes numbers, the PS3 will outsell the 360 by quite a large margin this month. Sounds like some people are starting to fear a trend.

They will update their charts with the NPD data. As Pirate said, NPD doesn't list weekly sales, they are monthly. VG does an "educated guess" and then updates once NPD numbers come out.

Its funny that the one time PS3 outsells 360 in North America all of a sudden its "Supply issues" and they wait to say it a couple days before Sales are released to the public. 8.4 - Here's whats funny
POG, Mart and I can't remember how many others were claiming death of the PS3 last year. They claimed Europe, They claimed the US and they laughed at us PS3 fans when sales weren't postive for us at all. All we had was Japan and even that was barely breaking 10k mark and dipped below the 10k mark at one point in time.

Now the PS3 sells 20k+ a week in Japan while the 360 sells 4k. It's winning in EVERY country in Europe as well. The only area (ireland england) where 360 sales were beating the PS3 fell recently. None of these trends are due to "shortages". Finally ... the PS3 beats the 360 in NA as well. Shortages in NA or not, the PS3 is doing the exact opposite of what every xbox fanclub member was claiming last October.

"DEATH OF THE PS3 IN OCTOBER!!!!"

PoG is posting a canned response, talk about "defense forces". The X360 is only short one SKU as is the PS3 (80Gb is very hard to find in most stores). If MS does a price cut they will gain ground in SOME places but not all over the world PoG and you know it, if it hasn't outsold the PS3 WW for the past 2+ months at the current price difference a $50 cut won't do much. You also assume that PS3 wouldn't drop to the same amount, which they likely would.

Wow, it looks every console kicked ass in January. It was a great month for gaming in general.

I wonder if the DS had shortages? It seemed to fall well below the expected number.

It's interesting that the 360 outsold the PS3 at Christmas, but the PS3 claimed January. It's quite possible DMC4 pushed it over the top. I don't know one way or the other about 360 shortages, so I'm not going to say that it's responsible, but it's also a possibility.

i should know i work in best buy and gamestop and weve been short for a while
we get about 2 premiums at gamestop every 2-3 weeks
