Microsoft announcing 'something' in Japan next week

Microsoft has revealed on the Japanese version of Inside Xbox that it is planning to announce something in the third week of February, which is next week. Microsoft wouldn't comment on the size or the announcement of what the announcement will be about. Rumors are now spreading about multiple things.

It could be that Microsoft is announcing a new bundle for Japan, or a release date for a future game or maybe even a official price cut. It could also be something way smaller than that, considering Microsoft is celebrating the Xbox's 6th birthday in Japan next week. We will just have to wait and see what Microsoft has in store for us and the Japanese gamers.

if its not a final fantasy they shouldnt bother. Giving up in Japan would be a mistake they can't win in Japan for sure but quickness to abandon Japan wouldnt fare to well for them in the eyes of the consumer

Dont be silly. This industry is not a regional one, its global. And MS looses far less than it gains by not maintaining their Japan work.

Sure the user base is smaller than NIN or SNY, but its not as if they arent growing their user-base.

And, it needs to keep the market open for 3rd parties.

Wow...I can't even imagine how much money Microsoft has thrown into what is for them a giant Japanese toilet-bowl. Microsoft is only keeping the bowl with the lid up due to pride and image. Just as they named their next console "360" instead of "2" so as to not appear in anyway less than Sony, they can't give up in Japan even though billions upon billions of dollars have gone down the drain there.

Although the Xbox isnt selling very well in japan it cant just drop the whole region. That would be unjust to the fans that might live in that area.

leaving japan behind would be a disaster for the 360 in term of public relations toward consumers and developpers.

You cant hope to develop a strong brand with that kind of behaviour..

you never know. After MS failed to buy Yahoo, now they will probably going to buy Sony, Nintendo, Capcom, Konomi, or Bandai.

way to go MS, keep on the good work when you are dead.

Another price cut?Another bundle?
Seriously, are you joking?
Microsoft needs to do something very big to sell in Japan, like a Final Fantasy, a timed exclusive or to buy Capcom.

Unless they are announcing the purchase of Sony or Nintendo, I doubt it will do much to help sales there, sadly.

The Japanese just don't seem interested in an American-made console. I can't entirely blame them - I imagine the RRoD fiasco didn't help the 360's (or Americam-made products in general) reputation much. It's a shame, because the system's got a lot of games they'd probably like, if more than 7 people in the country owned one.

I'll give MS some credit for sticking with Japan. It seems there is no new bright news coming from Japan for the 360 but they still keep at it. Gotta respect that determination.

14.1 - japanese buy ipods, windows.
it`s not because x360 is american product, it`s because x360 doesn`t offer more then ps3 does.
so why to bother and buying 2 very close/similar system, when it`s much better to buy ps3(which is superior then x360 in many ways according to japanese) and wii, which have different way of gaming.

Sorry Crazy but no, Japan is just as biased about their company's as America is. America just has more of an open door policy when it comes to other countries and trade. Japan is more closed, it's always been like this. Which is why America is such a melting pot where as Japan is still "japanese". Nothing wrong with it but it can make your culture, one sided.

"it`s not because x360 is american product, it`s because x360 doesn`t offer more then ps3 does."

So why didn't they buy the 360 during its first year of release? They even aimed to had a big game designed to cater to the Japanese market - Blue Dragon. It may not've been well received here, but if I recall, Famitsu gave it a pretty glowing review. And yet - no consoles solid.

I also won't get into the "Which is a better buy, PS3 or 360?" debate, because it's out of place here, suffice it to say your explanation is overly simple.

22.1 - Wait-what?
I wasn't big into the console debate of last gen because I was only like 14 or 15 at the time but was the original Xbox popular in Japan?

I mean, they had Breakdown (Which really should find a sequel on the PS3)

Microsoft, haven't you done enough damage and sullying of your own "once" good name?

Just count your losses and stick with software, like improving your crappy Vista OS so people can actually enjoy it.

The BIG Sony exclusives are never going to be yours, Japan doesn't want anything to do with you, isn't it time to pack up?

I just wished that MS would stop reducing the price of the 360 in Japan and start reducing the price of the 360 in the states instead.
