1 - This is in no way anything posititve for HDDVD
Having a item being put on the clearence section can only mean they dont want it anymore in the store and will sacrifice some money in order to get rid of it.

5 - What would be funny....
Would be funny that because of these clearance sales, HD-DVD gets a sudden surge and beat blu-ray in hardware and movie sales.

A few more of these clearance sales and the entire Hd-dvd stock will be depleted. "ha" Keep in mind major retailers aren't ordering more stock, either. IT's gonna be a Blu year, folks.

Why would you ever wish bankruptcy on anyone? Especially Toshiba who developed a consumer friendly format??? To me I feel deeply sorry they lost but I congratulate them for the good effort in the face of adversity. If things had only been slightly different... things could have easily swung in their favor.

On a personal note... I can't wait for the replacement of physical media. Do you know how many movies I have rented or even just bought and the player has trouble reading some part of the disc. DVD's are unreliable at best. I doubt that Blu ray or HD-DVD would have fixed that.

I can confirm my Walmart is clearing house of HD-DVD players. We still had some left from Black Friday and a secret Xmas sale, both the HD-A2 and HD-A3 we have left are going for $148. We originally sold the HD-A2 for $298 when we first got it and the HD-A3 goes for $398.

We still get HD-DVDs though.

This is only bad news for HD DVD if you want to interpret it as bad news for HD DVD. Fact is the only thing it indicates is that the holidays are over. Wal-mart isn't in the business of filling their shelves with inventory that doesn't turn over & HD players (Blu-ray & HD DVD) aren't exactly flying off shelves anywhere.

14.1 - HD-DVD is dead...walmart is clearing stock of a dead format...
There is now other way to spin this...after may 2008 70 percent of HD movies in 1080p can only be seen on bluray....Microsoft and apple digital downloads are not full HD, they are highly compressed 720p movies with questionable audio and video quality.

Bluray discs have a special coating that is scratch proof, so these discs are gonna last longer than HD-DVD or DVD and CD discs.

Bluray will take over and replace DVDs also...in a few years...Digital Distribution will be more mainstream when everybody get at least a 30 to 80 meg connection with no download cap...
