Shadowrun Forums Closing Soon; Next Shadowrun in Work

Former FASA community manager Kimona posted a note on the Shadowrun.com forums on January 2, 2008, announcing that the forums are shutting down soon. Additionally she said that Shadowrun.com will be handed over to the people "working on the next generation of Shadowrun products."

I really really hope that they leave the recent Shadowrun's formula even though it was a decent game and go back to Shadowrun's roots and create the next-gen RPG that the franchise truly deserves.

THX71685956d ago

I never played the original. I guess that's why I really like the 360 version of Shadowrun. I think it would have sold more (and possibly saved the studio) if they had done with Shadowrun what Sony did with Warhawk.

INehalemEXI5957d ago (Edited 5957d ago )

I hope the next shadowrun is more like the NES/Genesis Shadowrun was. Rather then the MP only 360 Shadowrun.

predator5957d ago

i actually liked the game and met some good people on there to

mintaro5957d ago

same here, i thought the game was actually pretty good, mind you it wasn't exceptional but i dont understand all of the negative buzz that went along with that game

MK_Red5957d ago

No body says the game was bad. The reason some people hated it and it got bad buzz is because how much they changed the game from the original.
I mean, Shadowrun was a classic singleplayer isometric RPG and they made fast paced multiplayer FPS out of it!!!???? WTF?
What would Halo fans do if next Halo becomes 1 on 1 fighting game? Or if FF14 becomes a driving / racing title?

That's what happened to Shadowrun. The devs simply screwed with the ip. They could have made their original world.

nirwanda5956d ago

yeh it pi$$ed me right off I even got my avatar name from the snes version can you imagine the uproar if they turned gran turismo into a new wipeout but hadn't made a GT game for 10 plus years then came out with that
they need to look at mass effect and add a cyberpunk theme to it

Salvadore5956d ago

Didn't people complain about the game because it was overpriced?

MK_Red5956d ago

nirwanda, I agree. And good point on Cyberpunk feel. The new Shadowrun game felt like a mix of Half Life and Middle Earth.

Kar33m, that was also a reason but the negative buzz was mostly from oldschool players and fans of original. It was rather insulting, what they did regardless of new game's quality or price.

I would love to see another shooter like this but with project offset type visuals.

God of Gaming5957d ago

Too bad, I really REALLY enjoyed my time with Shadowrun. They had some great ideas just really put in a bad spot by MS and themselves. They took too long to create the game and in the end a once good studio was put down.

Oh well. Plenty of good stuff to play in the future.

ShadowRun - An Xbox 360 Classic Left to Rot

ShadowRun arrived in 2007 and is still played by a core audience on modern consoles and PC today, despite a bungled launch.

coolbeans116d ago

Played it a few months back. Not a stellar mp game at its time, but still genuine & janky fun.

Sciurus_vulgaris116d ago

I have never played Shadowrun. However, the universe of Shadowrun seems like a good setting for various game genres. The franchise combines traditional fantasy tropes with cyberpunk science fiction.

Rebel_Scum116d ago

Yeah since the megadrive game I’ve always thought how cool the setting and premise is but the game never really delivers on gameplay.

ocelot07116d ago (Edited 116d ago )

Really enjoyed this back on 360. Was one of the first pc games I played as well. Nice to see it's still online I'm going to have to see about getting a copy on pc again.

Edit: is this backward compatible with series X?

Gcayton1116d ago

Fun game... just not Shadowrun.

porkChop116d ago

The Shadowrun RPGs from Harebrained Schemes were great, but that IP is just begging for a massive, Cyberpunk 2077-style game. Open world action RPG epic with a healthy dose of immersive sim goodness.

shinoff2183113d ago

That could turn out really good for real.

The 7 Best Xbox 360 Games - Console Exclusives Win the Day

The Xbox 360 was a fantastic console in its day with some truly classic titles, but what are the seven best games for the console?

DrDoomer144d ago

I'm pretty used to these lists being bad, but this one is particularly s#ite.

raWfodog143d ago

I think Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon should have been added to the list.

BrainSyphoned144d ago

I'll go with,
Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Culdcept Saga, Shadow Complex, Ace Combat 6 with the flight stick,A Kingdom for Keflings, A World of Keflings.
Bonus Kinect Games: Happy Action Theater and Sesame Street.
*Skyrim was so bad on PS3 that it almost deserves to be #1*

Husker42c143d ago

I really loved Shadow Complex.

P_Bomb143d ago

Ah yes, Shadow Complex! Good indies back in the day. Summer of Arcade. I enjoyed Trials Evolution as well.

ChasterMies143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

Was this made by a.i.? No human being would put Shadowrun, Fable III, and Splinter Cell: Conviction into a list of the 7 best Xbox 360 games.

Abnor_Mal143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

Would love to play Ace Combat6 on PlayStation, but Xbox decided to buy exclusivity and keep it off a competing platform.

The only mainline game I never played except for one level at a friends place. Game sold less than any other in the series if I remember correctly.

darthv72143d ago

360 had Namco hitters AC6 and RR6... both quality titles. You should at least bust out the 360 for AC6 if you can score the flight stick. Its great.

Hofstaderman143d ago

When the current gen XBOX offering is so lacking people need to refer to games released two generations back....

Profchaos143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

It's a nostalgia peice same reason we get thousands of YouTube videos on sega genisis. Something people have fond memories for but the era is long gone.

It's xboxs golden year imo it was their genisis years the time where they stuck it to the market leaders Sony.

BehindTheRows142d ago

They stuck nothing. Sony screwed themselves giving Xbox an opening. They would have gotten the usual smack down if the PS3 had launched at $399 and was easier to develop for.

Shadowrun 2007 almost had a System Shock-style singleplayer campaign

But Microsoft said no.

XiNatsuDragnel256d ago

I'm not surprised I hope if Microsoft is more open to these things.

anast254d ago

That would have been fun, so they said no.
