1) It took PS2 only 10 weeks to achieved the same volume that the PS3 did in 57 weeks.
2) I'm a fan of PS2 (150+ games) but it doesn't mean I am loyal to PS3.
3)Of that 120 million + userbase, how many will be disappointed when they found out their PS3 are not bc with their collection of PS2 games.

The price drop took effect in October. the 60gig was slashed to 499$ . the 80 gig became the 60gig in NOVEMBER since the 60gigs were sold out.

They arent gonna be this close for that much longer... I have both consoles and I dont want the 360 to fail and I want it to succeed as the Hardcare machine it is. I want it to outsell the Original Xbox by alot(even though I don't see it going past double of last generation....50 million. I doubt even that... is this is all it can sale after Bioshock, Halo and MASS EFFECT RIGHT IN A ROW.... this is the biggest 3 games IN A ROW this close together.... that will ever be on the 360. Halo is really what sums up the 360(unfortunately). Owning a PS3 also I just know it wont win. And the PS3 is gonna have quite a few more million sellers by early 2008.. Ratchet sales boosted alot this month... Uncharted will do it. COD4 and AC...wARHAWK AND hEAVENLY sWORD ARE more than halfway there.

all these titles will each sell at least 2 million copies over the next year, as more people buy PS3's the attach rate will go up dramatically. It's the law of averages, once a phenomenom like Final Fantasy comes it will make 360 attach rates look like a joke, not to mention first day sales. All in all all these flamewars on here and everywhere else on the net are pretty pointless for the first two to three years of this generation. That's how long it will take to see just who is pulling ahead. Xbots that brag about the current 360 userbase act as if the one for the first xbox wasn't EASILY double what it is now. IF AND WHEN the 360 passes last generations numbers wake me up and tell me the story, until then those acting like the war is already won only make themselves look like ignorant 5 year olds. THE TRUTH of the matter is, Sony and the Playstation ARE A GLOBAL brand while MS and the xbox are not. Try as hard as they may, ultimately their ABYSMAL sales numbers in Japan and somewhat better but still soft numbers in Europe prove this to be all too true. With that being said the only thing the Ps3 is competing with is it's pricepoint. Once that comes down to mass market levels every xbot from here to Redmond's jaw will drop at how fast the numbers will shoot up. Personally I believe Sony purposely started slow out of the gate to see who their real allies and enemies are. The xbots have definitely revealed their true colors and come out of the woodwork this time around. Now that Sony has taken off the disguise of a once great market leader who has fumbled the ball and is starting to show their selling power when they get down to business you are starting to see alot of yellow bellies sing a VERY DIFFERENT tune about the PS3. You can see the change in attitude at KOtaku,IGN,Gamespot and so on. They KNOW, just like Bungie,Bioware,Rare and every other developer who will eventually end up ditching the MS party train if they haven't done so already. Allow me to formulate a guess as to why you feel it is absolutely necessary to be so scorned towards Sony supporters. Just guessing here but I'm going to assume that either you were a Dreamcast adopter or a first generation Xbox adopter and you didn't like being on the losing end of a console format so when the 360 jumped up a year ahead of the competition (well...why wouldn't they. they practically abandoned their first console and left their userbase in the dust for an entire year before they released the 360) you decided to head on in to the gaming store and hump that green/white box all the way back to your car in some type of triumphant dance of victory.

Then the PS3 comes along and starts to throw in some competition in to the mix. Assuming your a true gamer and not some corporation whore you probably wanted one but couldn't afford the price which made you a sad panda, but you still had your 360 so you said....hey....who the hell needs a PS3 right? 360 has a year headstart....PS3 will never catch up...

So, after 6-7 months of lackluster PS3 sales you start to feel good about your purchase again, but then the rumblings of certain games start popping up on the horizon and you start to feel a little envious. Sure, MGS4, FFXIII, and Little big Planet are long ways off, but the sting of knowing that your console will never have them still stings just a little bit. Then you start seeing the newer games pop up like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, Unreal Tournament 3, and Haze. Then you see the interesting PSN games like Everyday Shooter, Super Stardust HD, Blast Factor, Pain!, High Velocity Bowling, and you think....maybe the PS3 doesn't suck SO bad.

BUT! Your rabid fanboyism won't allow you to continue thinking that way. Oh no, you must viciously justify your purchases like an animal protecting its food so you growl, yell, scream, and spit at everything that might challenge your claim that your purchase is superior.

Of course at the present rate of sales if would take forever for the PS3 to catch the 360 in terms of units sold. But the whole point on analysing data is to spot trends and try and predict based on that.

Its actaully suprising to me that worldwide monthly PS3 sales have just matched the 360 already given the slew of top notch 360 AAA's that have been driving sales on the 360. Looking at titles next year , and given the momentum that the PS3 platform already has, its not unreasonale for an unbiased analysis to suspect that PS3 will start to significantly outsell 360 world wide. The critical market here, is the NA market. A healthier adoption of the platform here would certainly tip the scales, as its the only market where 360 outsells the PS3 by a significant ratio. Its all guesswork of course but its not unreasobnable to see the PS3 catching the 360 installed base and supassing it in 2009 if the current trends continue.

Of course, neither machine stands a chance of matching the Wii, particularly if they get their supply situation together, but that machine is aimed a whole different demographic. Its like comparing the sales of Porche's and Farrari's to sale of a Mini.:)

Please don't flame me for an honest view. As an owner of all machines I have no vested intrest in any one over another, and will be quite content if they all do well. My post was entirely objective, and the only thing you may have taken as issue with was the fact I stated worldwide sales of the PS3 had matched the 360. But thats the very story who's thread we are commenting on, or have you not bothered reading the thread and simply enterd it looking to pick another fight over nothing?

For the record, I have owned every gaming system that has ever been made since the inception of video gaming (yes I'm now 43), including many I have had to import as they have not been released outside of Japan. My passion for gaming meant I left a long sucessful career with IBM in order to develop video games over 16 years ago and have since been a developer on many AAA titles for all formats and machines for most of the largest publishers (including Sony and Microsoft). Examples of my work can be found on all of todays current gen machines and there are several titles yet to be announced that I have worked on. I guarentee you will have played at least one game I helped to develop.
I currently have 120+ titles on the 360, 14 titles on the PS3, and 4 on the Wii. If theres a bias there, its towards the 360.

In many ways I DO find the 360 a dissapointment, but not in terms of the gameplay its deleiverd to me, and thats the main point of owning a games machine after all.

XBOX seems to be the clear winner of the two main formats (X360 & PS3) but that will change here soon, we love us our MGS & Kindom Hearts, once PS3 brings those the game is over. I have both formats but as much as i love my x360 the potential of PS3 is undeniable.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The 360 had no competiton for a year and one blockbuster title w/i that year, that still marks the highlight of the system. The PS3 came out of the box costing a million dollars, faced BRUTAL press and media, and hardly had games, YET has managed to rocket to 7+ million sold in little over a year? And...have had a handful of games in the 1st year that are simply remarkable and unlike anything else on other systems. I don't know about some of you, but that looks like real progress and production to beat the odds. Not to mention the PS2 userbase hasn't even gotten started yet, due in part to the PS2's ridiculously LONG legs. I think people that are beating the drums of "Sony can't (fill in the blank)" really need to reassess practical reality and their own convictions. This brand is still the one to beat.

Sony need look no further than themselves to lose or win this "war". If they keep the huge variety of games coming as they have for so many years, with the coming pricedrops and frequent FW updates - it's simply unstoppable.

3K? lol... funny... but A) as we saw yesterday on the NPD vs VGCharts comparison they can be off by as much as 150K.... also, not every retail store data is collected and included on NPD let alone VGCharts... and even if this was true... the PS3 needs to do a lot more than 3K+ than the xbox 360 a week... Also, it's interesting to note that the xbox 360 only have 1 year lead against the XBox 360... and yet the Xbox 360 have a 2:1 installbase compared to the xbox 360... this means that the PS3 have gain 0 against the xbox 360 installbase. In other words; each console is selling like 7,000,000 a year...

And let's not forget that A) Sony just had a price drop.. B) one of Sony's SKU is cheaper than the xbox 360 elite... and yet.. is not dramatically selling more consoles than the xbox 360... I can't wait to see what happends when Microsoft drop the price of the xbox 360...

It's funny how those 360fanboys are saying that the PS3 won't be able to pass the 360 next year, last time I checked it only took less then a year for the Wii to surpass the 360. And the way things are looking right now it looks like the PS3 is about to do the same thing next year.

If my memory serves me correctly I remember you PS3/SONY fans saying that the PS3 would take over the 360 this year(2007). As of today a whole year later the PS3 has barely cut into half of the 360's install base.

Now realistically the PS3 would have to out sell the 360 by 583,000+ consoles a month for the next 12 months foe you whole SONY owns next year thing to work out.

To be honest this is good news for all consoles. however, it is a little better news for the ps3. They have now overtaken the 360 in worldwide sales in the year that was touted as THE year to get the 360. It was the year that the main game came out (Halo3). I hear all this talk about how long it will take to overcome the 360 in total sales and so on and so forth. but with hardly and AAA games, and NONE that made th PS franchise what it is today, dont you think its keeping up pretty well?

All this talk of overtaking the 360 has deluded some people into believing that is the issue. What this article states is that the PS3 is outselling the 360 in worldwide sales (THE ONLY SALES FIGURES THAT MATTER), and they are doing this the year the 360 showed its hand. The ps3 is going to show its hand next year. By winter '08 we will have a better feel for this generation.

As of now, the ps3 is looking pretty good, you cant deny that. The future also looks bright for the PS brand (that can be debated).

Let me run down a list of answers for your sordid attempt at a response.

1) I wont choose another name. In fact, the name "Ashta" is an old name from the Khorda Avesta which is an old text from the Persian era. Back when the Zoroastrians were strong in that region and the name refers to a character who was known as "The Adversary of Vishtaspa". Old name, and I like the ring to it. So, if you have issues with names then I suggest you find a better hobby or something.

2) Don't care if you own -all- of the consoles, but your avid love for the single console (Xbox 360) is a bit more than the usual supporter. Sure, I like my PS3 and I loved my PS2, but I don't go off on the internet and speak with such a rabid fanboyism that I forget how to spell or form a coherent sentence. YOU are so livid that you even fail to spell out words correctly or use proper grammar. If you ARE indeed older than I am (which I doubt since I'm in my late 20's) then you should know better than to try and write a response that completely destroys the English language like that.

3) If your in the game industry then please....tell me which company you work for so I can call them and tell them your behavior in the company of others is an abomination. Also, if you "code" as bad as you type then God save the souls of the people who play your games. Yes, their very souls.

4) You are right about one thing and that one thing is that money does matter. It's not a surprise that with an entire 1 year head start that the 360 would be pumping out money like crazy by now. Besides, with an overly-hyped game such as Halo 3? Seriously? They spent 300 million dollars on an advertising campaign as if it was the second coming of Christ. However, I doubt that Christ would have ever approved of such a horrible thing as "game fuel"....but I digress....360 makes money (not for the company but for developers) and thats why it has such a good support line. However, many developers (such as Epic for example) are finding the constant limits that the 360 places upon them is beginning to feel a bit constrained. Why did UT3 not ship for the 360 with the PS3 version? Surely MS could have sent a money hat to buy it out right? Well, it wasn't ABOUT money this time. Mark Rein wants mods mods mods! and Microsoft wasn't willing to give it to them. Why? because MS doesn't want an open-user console which is beginning to hurt them in the long run. Just a small example, but not the first one.

I had (almost) every console too: Atari 2600, Turbografx 16, Sega Genesis, SNES, NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy advance, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Sega Game Gear, and now (after MUCH deliberation) a Playstation 3. Why did I not choose any Microsoft system? That was a harder decision this time around. The Xbox was a bulky monstrosity last gen and its support was next to nothing. However, the 360 DID turn my eye quite a few times but let me show you why I didn't jump on board.

A) RRoD issues. Yes, a three year warrenty is good but any downtime in a technical system should be next to never. However a 30% failure rate turned me off
B) Lack of support for 3rd party games. I don't mean they LACK 3rd party games, but Microsoft has only been about one thing: HALO! And they treat many other developers like Nintendo did back in the early 90's. Meaning...Microsoft will only focus on one thing at a time and wont share the love. Sony, however, doesn't allow a singular game to rob the spotlight and thus is a more consumer friendly enviroment for all developers.
C) Exaggerated and mudslinging marketing campaigns. NOW we get to the crux of the matter. I don't do business with shady indivduals and Microsoft is one big collective of shadyness. How? Well, for one the anti-trust lawsuits and constant additions to limit customers from Windows makes me leary of any MS product. Also, their entire marketing campaign was poised NOT to show how awesome the 360 was, but instead focused on how much they could downplay the competition. The 360 marketing campaign works like the Clinton presidential campaign. If they start losing....they'll just resort to pure defamation and will start the mudslinging.

5) As for the numbers of what each game sold? How the hell should I know? I cant give you exact figures but I can tell you that they sell enough to make people (and Sony's stocks) happy. Besides, how could any game compete with GEoW or Halo? they both had an advertising campaign that any hollywood producer would dream about. Halo 3's campaign was so aggressive that I almost thought that a man dressed as Master Chief would come to my house and rob me if I didn't buy a 360 and Halo 3. It was just that in your face! However, thats the way Sony plays their game. They want people to check it out and venture towards those genre's by way of impressive gameplay and brand name. Not by shoving 30 plastic Covenant swords down your throats.

Anyways, sorry for the rant people but I just cant stand ignorant people like XGamerX. I also know that most of you on here are pretty much Anti-"anything that has a PS in front of it" so you'll probably hit me up with about 40 disagrees or whatever. Don't Care. Just wanted to speak my mind and thrown in my two cents with a few quarters attached.

and that is the trend that will continue. as far as the 360 goes, its already reached its limit, which isn't all the way a bad thing. developers are comfortable with it, they know what they're doing. but the thing is, the ps3 has so much potential that developers will start thinking big and the ps3 will be the only console to achieve what they want to. sony builds consoles for the future everyone else builds consoles for the present, to try and turn a quick profit now. of the three systems we have now, the wii is the only one turning a profit. the ps3 will start to show profit bye mid 08 - early 09 probly. the 360 on the other hand has lost a lot of money with there world wide known hardware failure, this has really hurt them. when you look at these console wars you cant look at only now, you have to look out how the present is effecting the future, sony does this very well, which is the reason i do not at all doubt them to win this generation as well, it just wont be in the dominating fashion like last gen was. that was just a console massacre

What I find Interesting is that the PS3 has roughly half the 360's userbase despite ALL of the negative press, higher price, and no games. And that's also with competition from competing systems. The 360 has been out how long WORLDWIDE vs. the PS3. If i can remember correctly the PS3 has been out in Japan and America for 1 year and only out in Europe since March. But of course, no one can see that. I have the 360 and PS3 and I love both systems but the gap is closing. Closing without "any" software out. That makes so much sense. With the lower priced 40GB PS3, holiday season, more game releases and strong sales of BD movies, the PS3 renewed momentum just started. Its November sales jumped 285% from October. December sales seems to be accelerated even more. The European sales is at 200k per week now. Sony projected 10 million units sold by 3/31/2008. It should be easily achieved. With the current rate, PS3 sales should easily pass 8 millions by year's end. More importantly, the PS3 game titles will be pouring in the market in the coming months. Besides, PS3 sales is also helped by the Blu-ray movie sales which Xbox 360 lacks. There will be more than 500 BD movies by February and it leaves HD DVD far behind in the dust. The lack of games, BD movies and high price tag are the reasons the PS3 is selling behind. But now, those factors are suddenly gone. You can get PS3 at around $299 (SonyStyle Credit Card) or $349 (Walmart-gift card). The PS3 momentum is bursting out of lukewarm mode and start accelerating. It should reach 17 millions by the end of 2008. 2009 will be an interesting year for PS3. It will break loose as PS2.

I can tell you why. Its called an investment. In the long run what console will have me playing the most? What system is the most reliable? How long will the company support its product?
