Rumor: Star Ocean 4 being developed for Xbox 360?

A user has found a job listing for 3D modelers, designers and programmers to work on two projects for an unnamed game company. The games are "the latest entry in a famous fantasy RPG series" and "a new fantasy RPG". Both games are on the Xbox360 platform, and the general location of the work place is given as the Ooimachi area, which is where Tri-Ace's offices are located.

One of these projects, "a new fantasy RPG", must be Infinite Undiscovery. The other project, "the latest entry in a famous fantasy RPG series", fits to be Star Ocean 4. Is the game going to be multiplatform or an Xbox 360 exclusive? Time will tell.

i also think that the 360 analog sticks are very easy to use with RPGs
and did you forget that the ps3 also has...well what sony like to call 'trigger buttons'....trigger buttons that are made so well that your finger can easily slip off of them due to the shape of them

Don't blame a crappy game on the controller, it's the developers fault. I'm sure the Wii has plenty of crappy games using the Wii-mote as well (maybe even more).

Analog sticks work about the same on 360 as they do on PS3 (imo- PS3's are better, but who cares). The only time a shoulder button is used in Blue Dragon (so far, I just started a week ago) is if I want to battle more than one enemy on the map. I don't know about the look better argument either...BD has some frame issues and a little slowdown in places. Not enough to say the game is crap or anything ( I really like it), but it is noticable.

that`s funny when I OWNED a 360(before it broke twice) i hated the contoller. why?

1. you have to SYNC it.(me friend NEW 360 came back sync button doesn`t work can`t play his games) so the sync button suxs.

2.second battery life.

3.can`t just reassign the controllers.

4.the headset plugs into the controller.

5.there is NO innovation at all, compared to last gen.

6.rumble you barely notice it after a day or two.

7.sixaxis is GREAT when NOT over using it. FLOW rules.

The Xbox 360 controller has won awards for its ergonomics.

Square Enix will use their White Engine, which is capable of producing for multiplatforms, for their next-generation games. If they can develop such an engine then you'd think they have people who are able to develop for these platforms aswell. So why would they now start to look for people that know how to do this?

The game is already in development, so I doubt any port to another platform will be superior. As many of you know, developers find it easier to first start on the Xbox 360 and then port it to the PlayStation as its more complicated to do the opposite. So IF this game is actually multiplatform, then it will either be a timed exclusive to Sony's console or it will be the first title to have been successfully ported to the Xbox from the PlayStation. And I see no reason to justify claims that the 360 version would be better if that is the case.

How popular is this game to the Western market? I find it curious how Microsoft wants to try and convince Asian developers to try and release Japanese orientated RPG's on their system, knowing it won't really further advance their market share in that region anyway, so the only reason for these publishers to consider the Xbox 360 is if they know it will sell in the Western market..

The question is, WILL it sell in the Western Market? A game like Star Ocean isnt as popular as some of the other titles out in the US, not even more than Grandia I believe. With the PLAYSTATION 3 I could definately see this moving units in Japan and potentially in the West but not as much. With Microsoft's platform, RPG's seem not to get the love it deserves. As with Blue Dragon which I thought was a pretty solid game. I think if Blue Dragon were on the Playstation 3, it would get more attention and positive critique from fans.

It's like the RPG's on XBOX are the achilles heel of the system as FPS's are the same with PLAYSTATION 3. What I like is that both companies are trying their best to fix these issues to be a more balanced for their respected console.

For Japan, they need JRPGs. Tri-Ace and Square are already doing a couple games for Xbox 360 -- why wouldnt MS try to get Star Ocean?

And, I happen to like Blue Dragon very much - i havent *ever* played a JRPG i enjoyed more (great art direction / story). I would expect MS looks at the whole industry and sales for JRPGs and tries to make sure they can satisfy the global market.

In no way at all would anyone be surprised that MS would want to get Star Ocean 4.

Star Ocean 4 on 360. Developers that had games that were once PS brand exclusive are starting to realize that 360 is where they can see a lot of profit. It has the bigger install base as well as the highest games attach rate.

There is no such thing brand loyalty. Games producers have to see a return on their investment. Games with a high budget will most likely see the smallest returns as PS3 exclusives. Not a good business move for companies.

America is the largest gaming market, then Japan, then EU. Perhaps Tri-Ace would like to have an international hit by making it with an opportunity to do well in the West?

FF, Star Ocean, Kingdom Hears, Dragon Quest are important to gamers in Japan -- I expect MS be very very serious about getting some of these games on Xbox 360 in order to compete in Japan.

The Developers then say to themselves "We'd like to get better sales in the world's largest market too"

I think I understand why they do this. They do it for the sake of strengthening their game catalog. They say there's strength in numbers Nothing more nothing less. I believe they are pushing for this content to say "Why play RPG's on PS3 when the XBOX has (this game, that game etc.) plus Halo 3 and a solid online service etc.?"

Microsoft has closely followed Sony's plans on how to be successful in the gaming industry and the one thing you need is variety, regardless if it sells or not, it's good for a gamer to know that it's there and they have the choice to give that particular game a chance or not.

With Enchanted Arms could be true although we'll never know how the PS3's delay has effected what devs wanted to be multi platform in the first place will we. Eternal Sonata!; well its safe to say this was never a 360 exclusive rather a payed title to be released first on 360 and or to get to it eo the biggest fanbase first.

MSFT knows they need many types of genre's and lots of games to win, doesn't take Sony to know that all though I'm sure people payed attention. You say MSFT's studying Sony, I say MSFT's leading the way shaping the future of gaming forcing everybody to play catch up.

Ive played Blue Dragon (and loving it) for 40 hours, and Im on Disc 2. Multi-discs is just not an issue.

I can promise you, Blue-Ray is *not* about games. See: Every other failed Sony attempt at proprietary Media formats. It is the same exact story with Blue-Ray. Sony Electronics is being directed by Sony Pictures and Sony BMG (their MPAA/RIAA divisions) again.
