1UP: Silent Hill 5 - First ever video footage and Akira Yamaoka interview

While Konami has offered hints in the form of minor announcements and trailers over the past few months, the October issue of EGM -- on store shelves now, conveniently enough -- features the first significant information and impressions of Silent Hill's PS3/360 debut. For those looking for a little something extra, however, 1UP have an excerpt from EGM's interview with lead artist Brian Horton and lead designer Jason Allen of The Collective, as well as a video preview of the game with the first footage and a video interview featuring Konami's Akira Yamaoka.

First came the Silent Hill 4 game that wasn't even suppose to be a Silent Hill game, just named it Silent Hill for more cash, then came the movies. Now Silent Hill 5 looks like an Amercian producer trying their best to rip off Silent Hill 2.

It might be a solid game but those expecting for Silent Hill to recapture the glory of Silent Hill 2 in true next gen innovation might be disappointed. I think the lead Director of Team Silent said, as far as he knows the series is over.

I think I personally feel the same way.

Its funny you should say that I was looking at the Gold, Reds & browns and thinking dam this has PS3 in mind(looks like Heavenly sword & Lair or all the other PS3 game with low detail and three primary colors or aleast dull colors with no depth and vibrance.

#12 When I look at Bioshock I'm not buying you saying this game's gimped by the 360. PS3 games and multi platform games have lower rez's bad textures and a redish brown, yellow look to them..

I hope you have seem PS3 version of Dirt and Rachet and Clank. Especially R&C, the use of color in that game is really nice and vibrant because it is set in a cartoony environment, I am sure the PS3 is capable of displaying true color textures. That accusation do not really stand well IMO.

The colors in R&C are many but dull, re read my comment, they have a powdered look(faded).

Thats just it its either three shaded of sh*t or artoon on PS3 and not good artoon.

If you actually read all multi plat reviews you'll find out that all agree that PS3's version are lacking what can be on screen at once due to hardware etc( deep and verious 360 Color for one).

But those color is really comfortable to the eyes and they look realistic, even if you say the xbox is capable of more "sharp color or what not". Real life image are not that "vibrant", if they are going for photorealism in those games, I would say it looks excellent on the PS3.

On the RC example, i still think it looks very nice and very vibrant, i was re watching the trailer on GameTrailers.com.

But i guess it's down to personal perferences, nothing against the 360 at all, but i am not getting one until maybe a new model that comes out with the hardware issue solved. I am not going to deal with the hardware issue on a few hundred dollar hardware, it makes no sense to be unrealiable, if my 1987 gameboy still works...microsoft needs to do some self reflecting before they will get my money (and I am sure they don't give a damn about my money anyways)

Edit: was waiting for your replies, i just notice u are out of bubbles, anyways, I am sure we would be debating (arguing is too strong of a word to use) which console looks good until the sun goes down. And at the end of the day, both consoles are capable of HD graphics, and I think both consoles are excellent to look at, i just prefer the extra capability of the PS3 to be used along with the PSP, as a DLNA server, Linux (which i do use!! u can play ROMs and do some office work on it), and of course, internet in the living room (why not), and BluRay movie for the whole family on holidays. ( i am sure xbox is capable of some of these features and such, but again, it goes down to reliability, if i spend that much money on a electronic device, i dont expect it to EVER break down, very little of my electronics have failed me- actually can't think of any, except for PS1 that now only works perfectly if i flip it upside down)

You obviously dont have a PS3, or maybe you do but dont know of this feature.

The PS3 has different color output options.

It has:
RGB Limited
RGB Full
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr-superwhite (also known as XV.color and is new technology, it basicly has a wider color scale then all the other options)

Anyway, on default the PS3 outputs the color in Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr. This is the same as RGB Limited (I personally could not see a defference between these 2).

If you choose RGB full however, the colors are darker, just like on the X-box 360.

It is up to personal preference, I myself chose for Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr, because it shows more detail in the picture then RGB full.
When I was watching Mission Impossible 3, with RGB full, I couldnt see Ving Rhames's face clearly, as I could with Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr and RGB limited.

My conclusion, Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr shows more detail than RGB full.

It all comes down to the art style of the developer. Like how they think it should be viewed. Have you ever seen movies like Saving Private Ryan? Notice that it's not all colorful?

and since I got this franchise for the PS1 and 2 (silent hill 1-4) and plan on getting silent hill origins for my PSP, I guess I have to keep the tradition and get this game for the PS3. Was always famed for amazing graphics....when silent hill 2 was released it had the best graphics ever for that time,this just looks like the franchise is going downhill more after silent hill 4,team silent arent developing it anymore and they are adding new "action gameplay" when silent hill was always "run away from your enemy's because you only have 2 bullets left".How does this tie into the other series like they always have???THEY DONT!!....Im just disappointed in my fav series going to the dogs!!

I absolutely love it when ps3 fans say a game has to be dumbed down to work on the xbox 360 thus making it a sh!tty experience yet 360 always gets the superior version of a multi-plat game. How does that work. Looks as though the xbox version gets dumbed down due to the ps3. If a game dev makes a game for two systems, they make it the best they can for both. However, it always is the xbox coming out on top . (usually) Don't hate, I got (and like) both systems but thats what seems to be the trend for devs.

this is how it works ...the ps3 is the superior console ...proof? mgs4 and killzone 2 looking waaaaay better than gears or bioshock (comparing two flagship titles from both consoles, of which the graphics engine is already built - ie dont say mgs4 and killzone 2 havent been released yet) ......silent hill 5 is therefore gimped due to the inferior 360 hardware....now about the multi plat thingy.....multiplat development favours the 360 coz 360 code is ported to ps3 and therefore, a lot of ps3 power remains untapped. PERIOD! what happens when both multiplat games are developed separately for each console ? ps3 wins ....see pes2008
