PS3 Sales Explode: Outsells Wii 3:1 & 360 6:1 in Denmark

Seems according to this danish site, the PS3 is out selling the Wii by 3.5:1 and the 360 by 6:1 in Denmark. This is all thanks to the new Starter pack model.

Most people I talk to here in Denmark would never consider a 360. They hardly know it exists.
People ask me about the graphics on the 360 (I have both). I tell them it is just as good as on the PS3. But the hardware is nowhere near the PS3 (I'm on my 3rd 360).

As for Wii they look at it as a Party/Kids toy. So this is not really that surprising.

Funny though, my older brother is in the USAF and is stationed in demark, he has a 360 and states that that's what most of his friends play and rave about. Actually this article concerns not only Denmark, but the entire of Scandinavia. Quotes in the article is made by Nordic Film Interactive, which is the only distributer of Sony PS3 in all of Scandinavia - that means Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland - in total 24 million people.

The mention of Merlin (major danish retail outlet) is only given to illustrate how the new PS3 starter package is outselling the WII and xbox360.

Basically the number of people living i Scandinavia is rather small compared to the USA, - whats interesting is weather the PS3 salesratio is also relevant for the rest of Europe - then we are talking 470 million potential consumers(European Union) - and not only 24 millon.

I think it's important to note (if the data is reliable) that the PS3 is for the first time outselling the juggernaut Wii since their simultaneous release!

The figures also give an indication (that is congruent with other European/Asian figures) that the 360 is mostly a NA phenomenon.

positive news for the xbox 360. IMO its already reaching its's peak and ppl are becoming more aware of the faulty hardware. Which overshadows the positive aspects of the system. Plus the only true exclusive game coming out is halo 3, ms has to ride that out till 2008.

As a PS3 fan I totally agree with you because Sony is getting all the good news lately especially with last quarter 2007 games list and the solid 2008 line-up. There is more good PS3 news than the 360 or even the Wii. The 360's image has been shattered by those reliability issues and that is what's on the news all the time. Now we hear of the 360 core problems and how next year some (or most) games will require the use of a HDD. M$ is getting grilled on all sites and not just here.

M$ needs to start showing everyone what they got in their arsenal for next year because I only hear of Halo 3, Mass Effect and Bioshock. There are few more games coming for the 360 but you don't hear a whole lot of details like we do with future PS3 games. The rest of the games are multi-paltform and judging from those early beta COD 4 screens, PS3 seems to be getting the better deal but that could all change.

Bioshock is the only game I really, really want to play now but I will be patient and optimistic for that game to appear on the PS3 in a few months as long as it's not a shabby port and as long as it doesn't interfere with my Killzone and MGS4 game time.

Despite the PS3 fanboyism I still would like to hear of positive 360 and Wii news.

Most ppl already have an eye on the ps3 as part of their DECISION SET for a future purchase without any other negative things to say about the hardware or games even. It's not just the price that's keeping people away from the PS3 here, it's also games selection and competition. Yeah, MS has the big hardware failure issue (which is really bad), but most people can't name a single title on PS3 they're looking forward too except for the big Sony established franchises like MGS and FF.

So why buy a PS3 now? May as well wait until at least MGS IV comes out. Maybe it'll even be cheaper by then anyways... but you've also gotta consider that MS and Nintendo may have even more appealing lineups by then as well...

360 has the # 11 and # 15 skus, PS3 is at # 16 now. The 360 price drop is helping. And there's a lot of games moving up the sales ranks like Bioshock for 360 and PC and the 360 version of Madden is staying strong at # 4.

I see some rugged times still for PS3, lets see how Warhawk, Lair, Heavenly Sword do. I predict they're gonna have to cut the price again to try to stay close to XBOX 360 this holiday. I don't think they can afford to fall behind much more.

January to July the 360 outsold the PS3. July the PS3 sold more with the pricedrop in USA and package deal in Europe. Now with Bioshock, upcoming Halo 3 and a pricedrop (soonish in Europa also) the 360 will be on top again for the remaining 5 months of 2007.

Its not a fact yet that Ps3 has outsold the 360 in the month of July. NPD numbers come out on Thursday....Thats when we will know the official numbers. I'm not saying it hasn't sold more for ONE month...But people stating it as fact because VG charts says so is jumping the gun a bit.

Thursday we will know the console sales for July. But you are right...August through December the 360 will once again outsell the ps3. So in the end Sony May have stole one month of sales this year from MS. But we won't know for sure until later next week...

Why should we name other games? Bioshock is AAA and is going to be considered for GOTY. Halo 3 is a no-brainer AAA and GOTY candidate. Mass Effect is also a no-brainer as the pedigree of the developer ultimately makes this game a AAA goty Candidate. 3 months, 3 games, 3 GOTY candidates. We're excited about other games too but it's just to difficult to concentrate on other stuff with those games coming out. Plus, we still have Gears of War, Forza 2, PGR4, COD4 all on the way. I bring up Amazon figures because the USA is by far the largest market for video game sales. No other country even comes close.

Every month the 360 sells between 200k and 300k....in the USA....

Meanwhile the Ps3 sells between 75k and 100k.

And the Wii does between 400k and 500k.

Those are huge numbers. Japan is the third largest market but yet its numbers are much much smaller.

Ps3 sells between 30k and 60k a month in Japan

The Wii sells 200 to 300 k

And the 360 is at 10k to 30k

Now you bring up small countries like Denmark and the UK...LOL...

We are talking about the Ps3 selling at max 7 to 8k a month in the UK.....LOL....but yet you bring up UK amazon figures....That is pure comedy....

The 360 sells roughly 160 thousand units a month, did you just pick those numbers out of your head? Japan is the second largest console market after the United States. Europe & Others is the third largest market for console sales.

The Ps3 outsells the 360 in Europe and Japan every month, and in the United States, August will probably be the first month that the Ps3 will take over #2 spot in sells after the Wii.

Japan is a VERY important market for video games, why? Because Japanese video game makers prefer to support the console that does the best in Japan. Since the Japanese game market is important to a lot of these franchises, such as Final Fantasy etc..

I've said that really it's no surprise to me when PlayStation products sell robustly in the European market. It's been a given over the years. People are starting to see the reality that the PS3 is the best system on the market period, for the money save all the hassle of guarantees and cardboard coffins for your console to be shipped away and fixed for FREE. Who needs the headaches and worries? The 360 is "good enough" for some, but I would definitely not say for all.

Since so many idiot fanboys spout BS, I'm going to attempt to present a logical argument which would support why we are beginning to see the stories that PS3 is in fact finally out selling (and may continue to outsell the 360). Although it would appear on the surface that the 360 still has every advantage game-wise, it doesn't.

In spite of the increased diversity of the 360 game line up, there are only a small handful of exclusive games that bear out this diversity AND look to be killer games. This is, I think largely due to the fact that the 1st party 360 line up is still so damn shooter and racing-centric (with the significant exception this year of ME, and for 08' Lost Odyssey and Alan Wake). Banjo Kazooie, we'll see...I'm not getting my hopes up having seen nothing of the actual game and seeing that Kameo left some things to be desired.

Now, lets do some 360 numbers:

07'
Shooters: Halo3, Bioshock (timed exclusive??)

RPG: ME, Blue Dragon (may not be as great as the majority thought).

Racing/flight/combat: PGR4, AC6 (timed Exclusive?)

NOTE: no platformer, no fighting, no action adventure

Shooters: Gears 2 (likely won't be ready yet), UT3, Haze

MMO: Huxley (will it rule? hopefully)

Note that the PS3 overall seems to have significant games in more categories than the 360, and more likely worthy exclusives overall.

Now, I purposely was as conservative as possible. Both sides #s
correlate to total game exclusives now known, even if some end up
being less than steller-and sorry but that less than AAA favors the 360 side. Sony has significantly more games (and franchises) that are in fact proven.

Given that understanding, Sony may have as high as a 25-50% lead (dropping the ? marks we get 15 games for PS3 and 9 games for 360.) I'm being generous also as extra GTA4 stuff is actually not an entirely new game, DR2 and Bioshock might be multi eventually, same with NG2 although less likely)

Now all idiotic fanboyism aside, I think these reasons are quite significant and play a major part in the role of those who think there is in fact, a decent rational chance that the PS3 could overtake the 360 in 2008 (especially with an additional price-cut).

I realize that no matter what thought out logic I lay down, certain fanboys will ignore it and continue to spout BS. I feel that I am making a strong case however, as it doesn't rely on BS tech comparisons and instead on what frickin counts: THE GAMES.

Finally, Obviously my argument ignores many other games in production, but most of these are multi-platform and I highly doubt, given the disparity between # of AAA studios that Sony and MS control that either of the companies further announcements will change this significant ratio, which is increasingly in Sony's favor.

Hmmmm, ...The Xbox 360's superior architecture is easier to program for, it consistantly has smoother gameplay & framerates, better AI, better graphics, better textures, more memory, a much faster drive, & most importantly: superior software & alot more of it,... all at a better price!

Not to mention, Rumble, Achievements, online multiplayer chat, Marketplace content, tons of Free Demos, and of course, XBL. Take a moment to read reviews of PS3 games vs. 360 games on any website you choose. Thx, but the Xbox 360 has plenty of games both fresh 1st party Exclusives & 3rd party games. That will mean plenty of 3rd party & 1st party support for the 360 for a long time. Do the math... IMHO, I'll see you in 2010 with my $199 PS3.

I'm sorry, I forgot about Halo Wars, that is definitely a significant game for 08' Still that is only one game. Also, DS is multi-not 360 exclusive. I'd like to clarify too that unlike what you think I'm implying (that the 360 will be destroyed by the PS3 by the end of next year, you are wrong). I am not an idiot, blatent Sony fanboy (nor am I a moronic xbot). I own both consoles and an seriously looking forwards to the five major awesome 360 exclusives comming very soon, particularly Mass Effect and Bioshock). I am also in a way, more excited for the PS3 because (especially next year) there is an enormous amount of great games headed its way. The 360 also, but honestly, not as many. Hey, this is just my opinion and obviously you favor the 360 far more than I do.

Also, the reason I did not bring up online is because I am pretty confident that Sony will match Live and perhaps surpass it one day (again, prolly during 2008). Overall, both 360 and PS3 bases should flourish over the next several years of this console cycle. It is a LONG way to the 100+million install bases that should be reached eventually. What we are seeing now is just the begining. Happy gaming.

You know what else I didn't bring up are of course the well-known disturbing hardware failures of the 360...I swear I must be one of lucky ones as my 360 has never-yet red ringed on me...knock on wood. Anyway, like it or not, the hardware thing will, and is still getting negative media attention...Something that the PS3 suffered for its entire first 9 months of existence (some of it definitely unwarranted).
Whether we owners like to admit it or not, this attention will influence future "next gen" console purchasers--regardless of whether or hopefully more likely when MS completely fixes these issues.

I keep seeing this similiar argument popping up almost constantly. However, I find it eroneous. You HAVE to include all CURRENT titles when comparing libraries. It's that simple. If someone just bought a 360 last week, do you not include GOW in that list?

If you look at the library as a whole it makes Sony's task of equalling (and maybe surpassing) the MS titles a daunting task to say the least.

Yeah if you look into the near future then yes, of course you will see sony with quite a few strong titles coming out, game makers haven't really had the development kits THAT long when you think about it.

Still, even when I compare the list of upcoming games for the 360 and compare it to the upcoming games for the PS3, I see more titles that I personally find more interesting on the 360. But that is just personal preference of course. Others will find Sony's offerings better.

Ok, point taken. However, aside from Gears (which now will be on PC with extra content) there are really not that many other EXCLUSIVE great 360 titles, IN SPITE of a 1 year head start. Yes, there is GRAW, Forza 2 DOA4, DR1, Lost Planet, Oblivion and a few others..but The PS3 has Motorstorm, Resistance and Oblivion (better version) and within a few short weeks will be catching up numbers-wise to the previous quality 360 titles. Remember numbers-wise there really are fewer Exclusive 360 games even for this coming fall. That means that Sony will begin to close the game difference gap already. Oh, and I forgot about Singstar which is one of the casual game wildcards in favor of PS3. I did not know that its popularity rivals that of Halo in Europe, but there you go. That game just may sell consoles.

My overall point is that PS3 (as the PS2 compared to the xbox) will have more diversity, overall. Those that are only interested in focusing on generally shooter-centric and racing games will just want the 360 (like previous gen xbox owners)....others though, who want a lot of diversity and solid choices within those diverse categories are probably going to get a PS3 eventually.

Also, I'm sorry to keep mentioning it, but the frickin' faulty hardware is no small issue either. I don't care if its free to send it in when it breaks, that is a damn b!tch of an inconvenience, especially if it breaks often...

And the 360 kicked the PS3's ars ever since its launch? After the great launch when PS fanboys paid too much for the overexpensive PS3, the numbers dropped by the week. World wide the 360 outsold the PS3 in april, may and june with double numbers (PS3 sold 200k, the 360 400k). In the month July world wide the PS3 sold as much as the 360 already did for months, about 400k.

Really PS fanboys you need to open your eyes. The 360 has many games/content this month. That sells consoles. The PS3 will get Lair soon, but it isn't the game that Sony hyped it to be. Heavenly Sword will be just good with an 8, no AAA like Bioshock with almost a 10 average. It won't be able to knock Halo 3 in any way also.

Uncharted may be AAA, but no proven IP like Halo 3. Really. If you can't see the 360 with all those games and the only platform with AAA (over 90% score on games), lowest price and even pricedrop will rule this holiday you need to put away your Sony glasses. That's why Denmark story is dumb. UK is a much more important market. Europe sells about the same for PS3/360, Japan sells Wii, both PS3 and 360 are doing bad there. USA is 360 country.

Thus: the advantage mainly comes from USA, where the 360 is king. That's why the PS3 just can't catch up.

Are 100+million PS2 fans going to ultimately choose a console with less diversity, but more games or the latter. is really pathetic the hardcore 360 fanboys have to resort to name calling.grow up little boys and get smart buy a PS3 and join the winning side.and i can't beleive the person above me says it's to late in the race!the 360 is loosing ground every day,and this is with few games out now imagine when the games like FF,MGS4,KZ2,and many others come out. things are looking bleak for the 360,now i'm not saying that it will stop selling but look for it to be in 3rd place IMO.
