PSN is better than XBL; I know bots claim that xbl is better, but they offer up pretty much the exact same thing except PSN is free for everyone, and Free is always better. XBL has one thing cross game chating and that doesn't interest me at all, I actually use the mic to communicate with the people I'm playing games with. Oh and a majority of my friends usually play the same games so I'm already on with the people I want to talk to anyway.

This isn't me trying to be funny either, you get a free service in psn and that's great and soon sony's going to be selling a premium service so it can afford to try and match Xbox Live. Xbox Live is leaps and bounds better than psn. The feeling you get when you go on LIVE tells you that in the first 3 seconds, not to mention the awesomeness of the servers and the free features you get it's hella great. $4 a month is nothing compared to what you get from it.

Exactly free and its got 200% of the features as its includes a web broswer meaning it in theory can do a lot more. Can you post to myspace on your 360? No. Can you post to Bebo on your 360? No.. Can you buy on Ebay on your 360? NO!!! You can on PS3 :). Best of all? No subscription fee for these features.. MS charges you a fee just to use facebook on 360.. I mean I dont use myspace/Bebo etc.. but I mean millions of people do prefer them over facebook and PS3 gives you the choice. Not to mention PS3 has youtube video uploading 360 does not.

If that amount of money is way too much for you, it might be better you get a second job than spend time playing video games. And mind you this is $50 a YEAR, not a week or a month. Saying the cost of Live is too much is such a weak argument.

What Sony will likely charge for are OTHER premium services (Notice I highlighted OTHER because PS3 has had "Pay" premium services for years now.)......I'm guessing their catalog of music, movies, TV, and games...something like a Netflix service. The party system is the only thing I like about XBL that PSN lacks. I've experienced far more lag on XBL than PSN, and I don't chat unless I'm playing with friends.

The reason for lag on xbox live is because most of their games have a player in the match hosting the game from their household internet connection. While Most first party titles on PS3 have dedicated servers.

I doubt there's a great , structural difference between the two systems and it's prolly because MS got there first and patented a few easy methods of getting featues going holding PSN and Sony up a little. It's a policy choice from MS to not encourage devs to use dedicated servers. Why, IDK, btut it's the only explanation I can think of for a game as big selling and popular online as Gears2 was NOT having them. How much better would that have been from launch with dedicated servers?

Another thing I don't understand is that it's not in dispute(not within the sane corners of gaming anyway!)that dedicated's are best for gaming and with complete coverage on Live the debate about which was bets would also be obselete-so wh have MS continued to support devs with P2P as the premium, paid for service? Maybe because they'd have to incentivise it for devs and greeat gaming isn't at the heart of their thoughts? As I say I don't know.

Sony has already said that they would like to work with MS on a software front, but the PSN is set to grow much larger than Xbox Live since it is set to invade phones, TVs, and computers. With PSN Premium they are probably going to add many if not all the features that a Gold membership brings Xbox Live.

you can add/remove friends, see whos online and what theyre doing, queue up marketplace downloads, compare achievements, send messages etc all from your computer.

Live is also on its way to mobile phones through 'Live Anywhere' (i think theyre still calling it that?), as well as the Zune HD.

Sony still havent got the PSN on PSPs properly, why do you think theyd get it working on other platforms when they cant even do it on that?

My point was that if Sony can have the PSN with 40 million (or whatever it is, we all know it's a lot) users before it is integrated into other Sony products it is going to have MANY more after the fact. I was not saying that it would be the only service the be on multiple platforms, but that Sony wouldn't need Xbox Live for users and the with the premium service in the works it wouldn't make any sort of rational sense to put Live on the PlayStation.

The PSN is going to be more then just a PlayStation platform. That is why the new division was formed. Howard Stringer wants Sony to focus more on software sales and the PSN is going to be the catalyst for that. Music, movies, games, anything digital that is entertainment is going to be delivered through the PSN. We're not talking about just being able to change our friends or message people, we're talking about a service that wants to take on iTunes and be linked to nearly every future Sony product.

I'm not making a quality judgment either, I'm just saying that with them trying to push the PSN so far why would they even consider the idea of Xbox Live on the PlayStation?

the free psn is faster and more reliable, the only difference is you have no cross chat and no extreme matchmaking with friends, but who cares it's not like you can't make your own room online and invite friends still, I actually end up meeting lots of new gamers this way, rather than just restricting myself to one group of people who I know.

The multiplatform games I've played lag just as bad as on the 360...it's not like those games magically get dedi servers on my slim...though mag is pretty impressive when it comes to the lack of lag(usually). Hell, I even get input delay and bullet lag on kz2 and I've got effin u-verse man...I love that psn is free and all and home has come a LONG way, but overall live is just better IMO....I don't understand how fellow ps3 owners don't understand. If my friends and I want to play kz or bc2 (on 360) together, it's just a hell of alot easier on the xbox's online....

i always get heaps of lag when i play killzone, you probably do too but they hide it very well through client side hit animation and client side hit detection.

i often would blast someone with one shotgun shot, theyd run away, shoot me, then we'd BOTH drop dead, even though its been 2-3 seconds since i fired my only shot. thats lag, and thats client side hit detection.

I'd rather have early demos, demos of EVERY arcade game, cross-chat, facebook, last-fm and twitter in my TV, + better integration of all those services in a friendly, easy to use platform. LIVE is a polished experience, and is definitely a more developed online than Sony's. However, LIVE as an official service is older than Sony's Home, or online community. Sony relied on game-based online play, rather than a dedicated service.

Sony has massive hardware potential, much of which is untapped. It'll be interesting to see how the Sony online service evolves as their install base expands past the hardcore gamers who it was initially targeted toward.

Natal vs. Move will be an interesting battle. I truly believe that neither will act as "system-sellers" but it will appeal to gamers who want to change their gaming interaction. I personally like sitting and using a controller, and using a "wand" or "wiimote" is a way that never appealed to me.

I use my PS3 for games and the occasional Blu ray flick...I use my Xbox for games..oh and I can listen to any song while i play my game, it doesn't have Blu ray, but it can stream movies right off my PC with no lag whatsoever in HD(this can be done on my PS3 aswell but it's a bit laggy) and for the PS3fanboys ready to disagree, I'm talking bout streaming movies not playing online(cause they both have their lag moments, no connection is perfect =P)..and while I'm here let me just say..We need alot more Gamers and less Haters on N4G!!

I have all three consoles and for me Live is way better. PSN is a complete lag fest when gaming for me. I donno why, there is no 99% when playing online on my 360 or PC.
Streaming Netflix is god damn awful on my PS3, resyncing four or five times through every movie I've ever watched on it. Something it doesn't do on my 360, PC or Wii. Hell even the Wii streams Netflix better than the PS3. You get what you pay for I guess.

As for the price tag. If you pay $50 for Live then your just plain daft. I've been on live for over 3 years and not once have I payed above $35 for it, hell my last was $19.99 for 12+1 month. Most of you complaining about the price tag will spend more on junk food every week than the yearly fee for live.

Yes Sony Fanboys you can disagree all you want, but this is my experience with both services and I know others have had bad experience like mine and visa versa.

Because I used to get disconnected all the time when I was using the WiFi...but it wasn't the PSN, it was my Linksys combo modem router when using WiFi...its kinda old (bought in 2005).

When I hardwired it, now I play for hours upon hours...10 hours if I'm really enjoying my game(s) and no disconnects and no lag.

I turn on the 360 and see whose on, my buddy in LA is watching a movie on Netflix so I join him in Netflix Party and in a few minutes other friends show up and we watch something. Then we decide to join some friends playing BFBC2, they are already in a squad so form our own squad and then use party chat to overcome the limitations of the in game squad chat. Throughout the evening while playing I have quick private chats with friends. All the communication is integrated no need to back out of any game at any time. After playing for awhile i put on LASTFM and relax, then I play some peggle while listening to my own music.

On PSN I turn it on, see which friends are on, and play a game. I dont use HOME.

The difference for me is that I use the 360's features for a variety of things not just gaming. Its due to those features that my friends and I can hang out with each other during every aspect of being on LIVE. The sense of community far surpasses that on PSN.

Now whether thats worth money to you is another question, but from the info thats been out there Sony may very well attempt to imitate the LIVE experience but they will also charge for it.

I do believe that some of them will arrive...like Crossgame chat.

But here's why the feature WILL be free. Crossgame chat is only good if you can use it with your friends and or the people you want to talk to right? Obviously, the feature would be useless if one segment has the feature but the majority of the PSN users didn't. That is why Sony will not charge for it.

What I feel they will charge for is there own version of Netflix, which will incorporate Sony's large catalog of TV, Movies, Music and games....that is something they could reasonably charge for.

PSN runs fine and has good features and doesn't need anything from LIVE....it stands on its own merits and seems more "lively" than LIVE to me....HOME is what separates LIVE and it gets better with each day, plus the Game Room is nothing more than what Sony has been doing with playing virtual games in HOME....matter of fact, HOME's mini-games like Buzz, Siren's...etc trumps a lot of things on LIVE.

You still have morons with mics on PSN as well its not just limited to Live. The numbers are not that big on the PSN yet but give it time when the popularity has picked up even more on the playstation. Thing is cross game platform playing will not happend simple fact Sony and M$ bith have pride and are both stubborn it would be nice to have but it won't happen. This is exactly how console gaming would work. MS licenses out their console OS and Live service to the hardware maker...they then make consoles. The problem is with only 2 to 3 players in the market its not a viable situation yet. This is the vision of a unified console platform basically.

PSN is not fluid in the least bit, functionality across the board is not standardized is the problem.

When devs make a game on live, they have an infrastructure to fall into for their features so that all games work universally with features not so with PSN

Will PSN catch up? Of course, when, who knows, but as of right now there is no doubt Live is a better service, not by leaps and bounds but it is better

We all have gizmos and countless things to pay for. Sony is actually providing a service for free. Why on Earth anyone would opt to pay 50 bucks a year is beyond me. You arent getting anything that Sony users arent. Well you can chat with ppl playing a different game. I have friends and don't need that lol.

Some of Ya'll Some Broke @ss Niggasz talking about searching for bargain bin prices on xbox live doon't even play the damn game on either system. It don't matter whats free on not ill gladly pay/support anything thats further my experiences with gaming.

What i am not a fan of is getting nickel and dime to death for DLC.
Besides after paying $599 for a machine its online service better be free. Ya'll dudes wanna be gamers but dont want to spend no money to play them GTFOH!!!!

All of us that have PS3's we DO in fact pay for our online gaming.
Everytime I plop down my 60 dollars I HAVE in fact paid for my online gaming features. Developers put that feature in the game and it's on the disk. The last game I bought BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 had it and I'm loving it.

Why should I pay Microsoft to play RANDOM games online when I've already paid. XBOX LIVE sounds like a total scam perpetrated by Microsoft who simply want to block me from the content that gamers are entitled to.

It isn't the money, The Official...it's the GENERAL PRINCIPLE.
