Sony Should Stump Up The Cash For Shenmue III

PushSquare: "A recent interview with SEGA in Japanese gaming publication, Famitsu, hinted that the company are curious to dole out the Shenmue franchise to any buying platform-holder. In fact, the translation hints that the company would be willing to develop the elusive final installment in the acclaimed franchise exclusively so long as a party such as Sony funded the project. Sony, we say get on the phone."

Microsoft Should Stump Up The Cash For Shenmue III because there loaded and not in debt like Sony.

OmarJA-N4G5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

Can't wait to play the beta for us, huh? :)

Hey MGR 360 sucks, how's Office 2010? :)

PoSTedUP5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

yeah, and plus they are running low on exclusives it seems, MS would definatly need this badly.

i never played shemu on dreamcast, herd it was good, ud rather them make a crazytaxi game with the motorstorm PR engine.

Bodyboarder_VGamer5196d ago

I thought that xbox fans didn't liked movies... I mean, they are always accusing the PS3 of only having movies like Heavy Rain and MGS4 and now they want Shenmue III for the Xbox?

Come on man, make up you mind already!

user8586215196d ago

Im guessing u were 1 of the 10,000 who bought Shenmue 2 on the original xbox?? .......

damnightmare5196d ago

@1.4 So true bubble up

MGR really doesn't know what he's talking about anymore.

CryWolf5196d ago

Yo MGR Shenmue 3 should have better graphics in this game not the same graphics from the original Xbox and without voice acting thats why Sega went to Sony this time.

Raoh5196d ago

hard call to make

sony said there are not things as exclusives from third parties and basically shrugged on the gtaiv dlc..

why pay for something Microsoft is going to get anyway, why fret over something microsoft is going to pay for that you will get anyway..\

and more importantly, who will it matter to? the poor sales shows that it was a critically acclaimed game but not many people bought it (not including those that downloaded it from mirc channels)

the hardcore gamer that would buy shenmue already owns a console that can play it maybe both.. if your hard core gamers already have their console of choice or both consoles... who is going to buy a console for shenmue?

the money is better spent on in house exclusives, unless sega wants to sell the IP

Jamegohanssj55196d ago

I think they would probably take this one seeing as Yakazu is from Sega and so was Valkaryie Chronicles. What do they have in common besides Sega? They sell like hot cakes in Japan.

TGSI

TOO PAWNED5196d ago

JameGo

Not really, hot cakes is over exaggerating. Yakuza IP sells around 600k per gam, VC did between 250-300k. Yakuza great, VC good, but none of those are "hot cakes".

TOO PAWNED5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

On subject, Sony should try to acquire IP, it is nice niche title for whom many would buy PS3 if they don't have one already.
I love Shenmue games BTW, those were my favorites for so many years. Actually when people say GTA was revolutionary with it's open world, they tend to forget Shenmue....maybe it didn't have that same detail and scope, but ambition was there it set blueprint AND Shenmue world had 10 times more heart and soul then any GT game will ever have.

Jamegohanssj55196d ago

But I think that Shenmue would sell a lot seeing as many people have waited for it. You know that's probably just me.

TGSI

Elven65196d ago

jamesgo: If every person who said things like "I loved the Dreamcast" or "Shenmue was awesome!" both the Dreamcast would still be around and Shenmue would have sold millions. Simply put those people are either lying to fit in, bought it later on, or are the niche few who actually bought the game.

I'm sure Microsoft also realizes the potential of Shenmue III so it is possible that they too can make a bid since they did with Shenmue II.

Personally if Yu Suzuki isn't part of the game I don't want it, if Sega makes it anyway without him I hope Shenmue fans will have more sense than to by a Toyota with a faulty pedal.

HardcoreGamer5196d ago

ok shenmue 1 was ace shemue 2 was ace, but when yakuza hit ps2 it was all over, shenmue became " aint playing that again " id rather play yakuza over again

shenmue even though they make one at the quality of yakuza, im sorry yakuza just is way better more fun more engaging more things to do more addicive more funny.

shenmue was just a starter

YAKUZA IS THE MAIN COURSE, HECK EVEN YAKUZA 2 OUTDID THE FIRST IN EVERY DEPARTMENT

BRING ON YAKUZA 3 AND 4,

BASICALLY SONYS AND SEGA ARE DOING OK ALREADY

Jamegohanssj55196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

Makes sense, but we all know that one game couldn't have saved Dreamcast. I don't think I've ever played the game. I know there's one game on the original Xbox that I played that is supposedly similar.

Edit: Turns out that was the game >>.

TGSI

vhero5196d ago

If it was such a big game SEGA wouldn't have thought twice about releasing it. The fact shenmue 2 sold only 150k copies on dreamcast and 310k copies compared to the original game which sold over 1 million shows a decline in audiences for the series. The only people who really want a third game is the hardcore fans. People will disagree with me here but if you do YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE FANS! If you sell 1.18m of a game then the sequel only sells 1/10th of the amount a year later then its obvious the series didn't take off. The proof is in the numbers and the fact SEGA is asking around for funding it's not like SEGA are poor and cannot afford to fund it themselves is it?

FamilyGuy5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

I've never really been interested in the game, how much has this game sold in it's lifetime? Would it even be worth it to please a number of fans that may have dwindled since the Dreamcast days?

Doesn't seem to be worh their time/money after looking at this.
http://vgchartz.com/worldto...

The first one sold okay, great world wide, but the second sold less than half the original (if you only compare japan Shm1 DC to japan Shm2 DC since it didn't release anywhere else)

Sega wants funding because the gamble/risk is too high.

Elven65196d ago

vhero: You forget to take into account that by the time the game was released the Dreamcast was discontinued, release wasn't backed much, it was never released in North America, etc.

And IIRC, sales numbers were never released.

5196d ago
sikbeta5196d ago

@Raoh

I agree with you, this only can be GOOD if Sega have an EXCLUSIVE Deal with SONY and I talking about a REAL EXCLUSIVE, not a timed or cr@p like that

Tony P5196d ago

What elven said about sales.

But really Shenmue today would not be the highly progressive title it was yesteryear so I don't think it's that risky. An open-world story driven game is way safe these days and Shenmue is a somewhat established name among gamers. I say go for it and don't break the bank this time.

tordavis5196d ago

Shenmue never came out on a Playstation console, only Dreamcast and Xbox. That should tell you who might jump on this.

NOOBKILLA5196d ago

I think that Shenmue 3 should come to either 360 or PS3 as a trilogy set. There is no way SEGA is going to get the numbers they want with the 3rd installment alone. Since all the games are basically a continuance off of each other, why not just make Shenmue 1, 2, and 3 all into one single game and release it. It should easily fit on one dual-layer 50GB Blu-Ray Disc or 2 DVDs for the 360.

silvacrest5196d ago

if this generation of games has told us anything its that anything can be gotten at a price, where the game originally was does not seem to matter any more

Jsynn75196d ago

Listen, all I care about is the ending to this story. You don't write a great story and finish writing it in the middle. I don't care what console it goes to. I don't care how much it will sell. I just want to FINISH THE STORY!

Blaster_Master5196d ago

Sega, Please just give us a true sequel to Skies. Please.....

vhero5196d ago

@Elven6 it did on Xbox 1 though. though I guess my stats should be effected byt those so 1/5th sales not 1/10th lol. Either way Shenmue on an Xbox console didn't work before its a HUGE gamble for anybody who takes it on and MS saw this game fail on their console in the past. You think they will spend millions on a third game when the second only sold .31 million worldwide on original Xbox? I can't see it myself. As much as MS loves throwing money at exclusive deals I think they would rather throw it at something else like an exclusive expansion pack for Bad Company 2 or Final Fantasy 13 or something instead of Shenmue 3.

Elven65195d ago

vhero: When Shenmue II launched the Xbox had no where near the install base it had at the end of the generation or even what the Xbox 360 does. If you don't have as many consoles out on the market you probably won't get good software returns.

Shenmue II on the Xbox was also never released in Japan, I'm sure that game would have done pretty well their.

Again, where on earth are you getting these sales figures from?

+ Show (17) more repliesLast reply 5195d ago
reintype5196d ago

I do agree with you on some of your points.

But I still think Sony, should get this. SEGA already has a suitable engine in place, the one they are using for the Yakuza series on PS3, so funding this may not be as costly as everyone might think. It will also promote goodwill between SEGA and SONY, who knows, they might even make more exclusive for the PS3. Most of all, it will be another feather in the cap for Sony, another high quality exclusive that you can't play anywhere.

Besides, I want Shenmue 3 on BD, powered by the PS3, and possibly with motion-control support too. I think most Shenmue fans will agree with me on this, that we want an uncompromised vision, with all the talent and effort SEGA can muster.

Raoh5196d ago

if sony did acquire it.. forget yakuza,... sega should co produce it with quantic dream

Elven65196d ago

Shenmue relies too heavily on Asian culture, tradition, etc and that's one of the things that made it unique, I don't think a French developer would be able to capture the same essence Suzuki and his team did.

SpartanZero5196d ago

360 games are so good Sony freaks cry for them

Karooo5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

You should watch 2008 and 2009 goty awards and slap yourself.

CryWolf5196d ago

If Xbox and 360 games are so good then where the Hell is the voice acting from Shenmue 2 at then Jijoro, this is one reason why sega went to Sony.

Karooo5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

I think last big budget game on 360 was gears 2 20 million is it?

chidori6665196d ago

gears 2 used the same budget of killzone2.

Dutch newspaper pegged the budget of Killzone 2 at $21 million"

http://forums.pearljam.com/...

Bigboss195196d ago

Gears Of War 2 only cost 12million dollars....

Never say never, I really didn't expect to ever see Space Marine 2 and 12 years later its almost here.
So there is still hope for all these games.

Chocoburger72d ago

I've completed 5 of the games on the list, but the author forgot to include Advent Rising. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but it bombed hard, and the two sequels never got made. It was Mass Effect, a console generation before Mass Effect.

The game is buggy and unpolished, it needed a few more months of development, but the potential was there. At the end of the game, you have all these super abilities, I remember the stomp attack that created a shockwave being especially powerful.

shinoff218372d ago

I personally think days gone will recieve some sort of sequel at some point. I'm personally also hoping it's not the rumored multiplayer online stuff. I'd think most that enjoyed it would rather thisnto.

Knightofelemia72d ago

Sony needs to dust off Sly Cooper and Days Gone so needs a sequel two of my favorite Sony titles. Bulletstorm I love great game wish it also got a sequel. And I wish Namco would finally give Enslaved a sequel another great game.

Dragon's Dogma and XCOM 2 are the best deals. The rest of the games are still overpriced. I would say 8.99 is good for AC: Origins, but you need to put $10 more into MTs to avoid the grind that slows down the story. So, the game is actually 18.99.

It's not on this list, but Pathfinder: Kingmaker is only $9.99. This is a deal if you have a current gen. consoles, as it runs poorly on prev. gen.

hangdang685d ago

I beat AC origins without grinding or spending any money on MTX?

anast684d ago

I had to grind for side missions. So, did many other people.

Has anyone been able to login in to the ps store on ps5 I haven't been able to in days and my network is good.

RedDevils684d ago

Reset or shutdown your PS5. I always can go login to PS5, in fact just a moment ago.

HeliosHex684d ago

Hey thanks again. Although the shutdown/reset didn't work i found that resetting the mdm and hub did the trick. I use a Lan network instead of wifi. In case anyone has a similar setup and problem.

RedDevils683d ago

I forgot to mention about the router reset, that usually do the trick when it come to network problems happen with iphone/android. btw np
