Bayonetta PS3 Patch Greatly Improved Gameplay

The much awaited patch that fixes the horrible load times for Bayonetta is finally out in Japan and PAL region. By downloading the 135MB patch you will have an ability to install the game's data on the hard drive. Make sure you have at least 4.5GB of space in the hard drive and it should take around five minutes to install...

It is good news. I picked this game up over the weekend and got a few hours in, but stopped playing to wait for the patch. Looks like I'll be back in it tonight!

Frame rate problems should have been fixed in the development cycle. Even the 360 version (the one I have) has it's own frame rate issues, especially later in the game when you fight boss after boss.

I don't say this often, but they should have just delayed the PS3 release by a month to work on it more. Less fan backlash, better product, no need for a patch.

It was dayedsih. It was meant to come out in October, but, and heres the odd bit, I don't think any work was done on the PS3 version.

I actually did something I've not done before, brought the 360 version ober the PS3 one.

That's an awfully lot of HDD space just to avoid those "1-2 second" loads time when picking up weapons (among other minor fixes).

Good thing you can delete the install after you're done with the game. Bad press wise, they really should have just delayed the PS3 version a month or so.

1-2 sec loading times when you pick up weapons sounds like the worst glitch a game could ever have. Does the whole game stop? Or does it just take 2 secs before you can pull it out and use it? The latter wouldn't be so bad, but the former would be gamebreaking in a fast paced game like Bayonetta!

I Don't remember anything like that from the demo!

Anyways, Demon's Souls is keeping me from playing Uncharted 2 and LBP water, so I am skipping all games till GOW3!

many good games have install..but it's not required everytime.. sometimes you get a team that does a great job without installing but you can't have that everytime ...

Infamous 700 mb install is needed for example as with it the game is flawless during gameplay after the initial load

That would mean use the SPU'S.

This game runs on 3cores of the 360 at 45-60fps.

This game runs on PS3's 1 core at 27-30fps.

Uses no spu's.

I finished the 360 version and it was a buggy mess with screen tearing galore. The combat system is exceptional, but that can only take you so far. An incoherent story, annoying sidekicks, and terrible level design really removed a lot of the fun factor. I mean think about it. We wouldn't even be mentioning load times if he designed the levels properly. But unfortunately, Bayonetta deteriorates into nothing more than a corridor fighter, running from area to area, fight bad guys, get graded, and watch more load screens. Wash, rinse, repeat. By chapter 8 I was forcing myself to finish it because of the redundancy. It's proved to be better fanboy ammo than a great game and that's the sad realization.

I have to agree pretty much with CBoath's review above except I played the PS3 version. Load times were defiantly a pain (which this patch should fix). I never saw frame rate drops or slow downs and if they were there then they were minor to the point of not noticing. Screen tearing was present most of the time. Textures could have been better but your moving so much and so fast that you really don't notice. Cut scenes really lacked the polish of say a Res Evil 5 cut scene. Combat was great and there's a TON of moves. Story made as much sense as Devil May Cry which is to say "not much". Even with all the blemishes I enjoyed the game, but no version is worthy of the hype it's gotten. I would have liked them hold up on releasing it also, but I also think if they had it would have been buried by all the other games coming out.

That was the only thing souring my Bayonetta time. And the load times were ridiculous before the patch. 1-2 sec every time you went to the menu or picked up a new item. Not to mention the loong wait in between levels.

Good thing Sony stepped in and sorted it out, I'll enjoy Bayonetta much more now...
